I wonder what it would read under all the crossing out. The mind boggles.

(well, mine does anyways).

Aww c'mon Allee---is your mind that clean? :D Doesn't take much to see what's under the "redactions." ;)

I would have just used the tag to post the image...but it seemed rather large. Thanks jkallinen!

No problem Scott, I thought it would be worth it even if you are on a dial-up to see this. I remember my first Burton but did not quite think of it this way. :D

Its quite easy to see why this add never went far. :D Yes, its very easy to read what has been blacked out. :p

Regards,

Jim

This add in many ways reminds me of both riding and parts of my anatomy. Yes, when riding is a b*tch-like concussions and sprained ankles, riding is like PMS. And when riding is sweet, it reminds me of good sex, just with more expensive equipment.

Heh, that is hilarious! Can you scan it at a higher rez and send it to me? I want to print it out and tape it to my door at work. I might photoshop out "Burton" at the bottom and replace it with one of the "board"s from higher up in the ad, since I don't actually own any Burton's any more, but I like the sentiment ;)

I'm not falling for this. Every now and then Burton contrives some controversial ad in a pathetic attempt to look hardcore, because it knows that so many hardcore snowboarders hate them. I'm not one of those, but I just think this sort of thing is lame and immature. The guy railsliding a log with a cigarette dangling from his lip was pathetic in '94 and so is this.

I agree Jack, insofar as the whole "Xtreme Marketing" thing goes---generally lame attempts to lure teenage buyers to a product. On the other hand, Burton (like most brand names) is totally irrelevant to me---I just thought this was funny on creative grounds. :) As advertising, it's brilliant in terms of its simultaneous communication of two interwoven messages---the "board" message, and the "what's under the deletions" message.

I agree with your general sentiment, but this ad is pretty brilliant, imo. I mean, the idea is simple, but the funny parts are after he sticks his "feet" into his "bindings", and then runs out of ways to replace the original items with snowboarding terms, so he settles for "couch" and "chair". "Tomato" is hilarious. I don't think my feet smell like tomatoes after I pull them out of my boots... then again, referring to the original text, I don't think Madonna's finger smells like a baby after she... eh, nevermind.
