ABV: Anybody but Vail

Powdr corp, most recently famous for losing PCMR to Vail, has formed a marketing alliance with Boyne. Other than for publicity and marketing, it isn't clear what this alliance will do. Of course, I want to see unrestricted cross-resort season passes, but that seems to be asking too much.

What it Means to Ski in a Vail-Dominated World

I thought Intrawest had actually gone belly-up after the Whistler debacle in 2009/2010. Looks like they just retreated east.

I can see some synergies for the companies ... not so much operationally, but sharing marketing, promotion and logistics costs can save a big chunk of cash. Purchasing savings alone for a company that size could be significant, and every dollar counts when you're competing with the Vails of the world.

This is weird.  Is this a harbinger of something bigger?  What if SkiCo bought Sun Valley Co and created one pass that offered unlimited access to Aspen, Sun Valley and Snowbasin?  Hmm.

Aspen Skiing to build Limelight Hotel at Idaho's Sun Valley ski area

Aspen Skiing Co. will build a Limelight Hotel at the base of the Sun Valley ski area in Ketchum, Idaho, marking the company's first expansion beyond Colorado.

Aspen Skiing bought the Limelight in downtown Aspen in 2010 and has grown the 126-room hotel into one of the resort valley's most popular lodges, with dog-friendly, relatively affordable guest rooms and a festive lobby.

The company — which operates four ski areas in the Roaring Fork Valley and Aspen's tony Little Nell hotel — last year announced plans for a 102-room Limelight at the base of its Snowmass ski area, a project the town of Snowmass Village hopes will spark stalled base village development plans.

The Sun Valley Limelight is approved for 119 hotel rooms and 11 residential units.

Aspen Skiing will request "minor modifications" to the hotel project, which has been approved by the city of Ketchum. Aspen Skiing purchased the property, near Sun Valley's River Run base of Bald Mountain, from developer Bald Mountain LLC for an undisclosed price.

"We believe that the Limelight would be a great fit for this site and the community," Aspen Skiing's vice president of hospitality, Don Schuster, said in a statement. "We feel the timing is right to grow the Limelight brand and that this property in downtown Ketchum is an ideal location. We look forward to being a part of this great community."

look at Snowmass base area in Ruins for years...the Aspen Skiing Co. constantly stating, somebody needs to increase the  Bed Base or Aspen is in trouble...so lets go to Sun Valley, and put the beds there ? ...as somehow that should help...Aspen Ski Co. is owned by a Family ...then again the Little Nell Hotel and the Limelight Hotel Aspen, owned by the Aspen ski Co. would have competition, if more beds were added here by them or others..maybe they need losses generated, to deduct from gains in the military industrial complex of General Dynamics...which has over time made the Family a lot of coins, with which to buy things...the Ski Co. being but one purchase...I pay 1200 for a season pass that used to be 1500...so life is good, and when I turn 70 in a year or so it will be around 500 :biggthump
