Ray
Park City and my first ride with the Gladiator “Zylon” Prototype... Snow conditions, good! The board delivered exactly what I asked for... a faster version of my Terminator, but with a larger radius combined with the same “fast” edge to edge ability, packaged into a very smooth ride altogether… I was riding with my F2 bindings (19inch stance, 63/60 angles, 1cm toe and heel lift, 1.5 degree negative front cant) and Deeluxe Suzuka boots (w/ modified springs). We took a couple pictures near the King Con lift… The Team ;)
Ray
The Turn. Low, wide and pretty fast turns… The Gladiator delivered excellent edge hold… was able to hold this backside/heelside ;) for quite some time before entering into the next frontside/toeside ;) turn…
Ray
The Speed. Very stable at high speeds. Very comfortable to turn at high speeds in pretty relaxed position…

D-Sub
nope, nothin to hide at all. I pictured you lookin duskier for some reason. NO idea why I hope "euros" didnt sound bad...I didnt mean that...I just never understood frontside and backside in anything but a halfpipe or surfing. I get confused:)
Guest tigger
whats wrong about a backside? thats the way i learned it:confused: , perhaps fersenkante doesnt sound cool. Or the first eurosnowboardstudent didnt understand heelside, but backside sounded more obvious to him:rolleyes: btw why do you call your handy a mobile? D-Sub
Its cuz I come from skateboarding...frontside is going up the transition and turning LEFT so youre looking out of the ramp or whatever, backside is looking back in. whats a handy? a cell phone? theyre mobile, arent they? heh

Guest tigger
no its more triky ferse=heel=backside toe=zehe=frontside thats how it is in germany i dunno how the french handle it. i hope you understand my poor euroslang, ido my very best, just ask;) if i write crap
D-Sub
hell I wouldnt know if it was right or wrong:) I should learn german. Its in my blood.
Hagen
nope, Ferse is heel and Zehe would be toe - so I guess Zehenkante or Zehenseite would be toeside. ...but then since I learned to snowboard in the states I'm not too familiar with German snowboard lingo... :D
Guest Randy S.
I'm jealous. It looks like fun. When my achilles heals I want to ride one of those boards. Does your wife have a twin sister who wants to live in NorCal? Did I just say that out loud?
kamran
Ray, Great pics. makes me impatient to get my virus. Since you have been riding (and own) a number of different Virus boards, could you summarize the riding characteristics of different models? @ Virus homepage they don't write any more than 1 or 2 lines. Galen
"how come euros call toeside/heelside backside and frontside?" Dont know why euro's use the terms, but we were using it for surfing in the 60's. Great pic's, though being in the NW makes looking at them very painfull. :)

Neil Gendzwill
Even the skaters get confused on backside and frontside, especially if they've never ridden vert. I just call them toeside and heelside to save confusion, those terms are clear.
sic t 2
100% surfing term: frontside (toeside): your "chest" to the wave. easiest way to ride one. backside (healside): your "back" to the wave. generally more difficult since its hard to judge the breaking wave -- plus your neck is usually uncomfortably twisted trying to look for the sweet spot of the wave since that section is now located directly behind you. so a regular foot surfer natually likes "right" breaking waves and a goofy footer would prefer "lefts". sort of applicable to snowboarding, especially on steeper trails. sic

gdboytyler
With a surfing background, I'm more use to calling turns frontside/backside. For snowboarding toeside/heelside is definately more user-friendly. When surfing, if you do a frontside bottom-turn, its the same as a toe-side turn. But then, if you do a frontside cut-back, you end up doing a heel-side turn. Then it really gets confusing when you start calling fronstide/backside off of straight jumps or rails.
