Scott.Creer
Heading out to Vermont this weekend to board at Jay Peak, Killington, and Sugarbush. We'll see if they have anymore snow than hereDan You should check out Stratton while you're there--East coast Expression Session starts this weekend--should be a lot of carvers there. Look it up on the forum here. Being from that area, I would suggest skipping Killington. Try Burke Mountain, it is just 45 minutes south of Jay Peak, and much less crowded. trent
there's going to be d-team racing at welch on sat starting at 9am, probably lasting until 2 or 3. i'd imagine it's going to be pretty crowded as afton and buck teams will be there. -trent
bobble
snow was soft. i didn't feel any ice except at the Bakk lift line. at first it was sunny. then around 10 AM the clouds rolled in quickly. light was almost too flat for me to see. did countless runs on Lookout and Wild Finale. did some on Bakki when there was some sun light. skiers on Bakki scared me otherwise it felt great. ventured over to Dan's Dive and it was crap to carve. the snow was churned up and bumpy. it was like they had new snow and it was pushed around. one run and done. went over to Jon Jons but but the lift look like they were having problems went back to Lookout. caught up to nelsonboat (or dan) and his daughter on the new chair. road together until noon. safety in numbers. on my 2nd to last run i almost had a collision with a kid who was on skis. i was going slow down Lookout because there was a crowd. got past the trees and went skiers right over to Wild Finale. made a couple turns. i was transitioning from toe to heel when this kid appeared from behind and along my toe-side edge. he overtook me and cut me off at the nose of the board. he was arms length away. i had no time to react other than to yell "SH!T". he took off. i recovered and followed him. at the bottom he looked scared. i couldn't tell how old he was, i think he was early teens. i said "are you alright?" he shook his head. i said "downhill has right of way, don't get close like that." he nodded. he got into the lift line with i guess his father who then started asking him what happened. i got spooked because i didn't want to have a confrontation. took one more run and then i left at 12 PM. in retrospect it was getting crowded. should've left at earlier. went down to ski office and renewed my season pass. they're now offering insurance for an extra $9 that if you get injured or are unable to use the pass you get your money back. i declined. trent
pulled up to a nearly full parking lot at 8:45. uh-oh.... maybe i should've got to afton. but the sky was blue, the cord looked excellent, and the hills weren't covered in gates. plus bobble and bionic were both smiling huge. :D turns out there was a big psia event, along with adaptive skiing today. luckily for us, they didn't get going right away. joe d., bobble, powell1.8, bionicman, matt, and i rode lookout almost exclusively for the first 2 hours. it was awesome! we even got some compliments from the psia instructors, and some pole whacking (how many points for that?). the snow was firm and fast, and the run was pretty uncrowded except for the occasional group of skiers. after 11 though, it started getting too crowded. we tried some runs down dans and harley, but it was loose snow over ice. not fun. made our way to the other side and made a few runs down dikes and the green run over there? dikes was icy. i liked the snow on the green run, but it was too slow for everyone else, plus the bottom section sucked eggs. joe d., decided there were better things to do with his time than be at welch. the rest of us tried lookout again, but all the top snow was now scraped off. much icier, and a lot more chattering happening. not fun. we tried jon jon i think 2 runs and decided joe d., was the smart one and followed his example. still, an excellent morning of riding. thanks for coming out to play everyone! -trent
trent
rode with nelsonboat and nicotine this morning. it was a couple of inches of soft snow, over ice. carveable, but you had to ride pretty balanced (but not as balanced as yesterday). also saw switchtele today. gave him some whoo-hoos from the chair, and complimented his riding later. dan's, bakki, and lookout were all in about the same shape. i had an eye for binding problems today. hopefully solved nicotine's leg problems, and avoided some possible problems for nelsonboat. 60's for the weekend and next week.... seemed like a good time to call the season over. and the fact that after i left the doctor's office tonight, i was told i'd be using frozen peas a lot this weekend. ;) see y'all next year! -trent Edited March 10, 2012 by trent
