anyone ridden there lately? i haven't been back in about 7 years, since i quit teaching there... the place was such a mess.

tho' with all the snow we've had, i bet master magician and redline are open.

btw... not sure how that deal works, AFAIK, magic's only open fri-mon and the occasional powder day... no mid-week operations, normally.

Big Bear Mountain Resorts has the perfect birthday gift for skiers and snowboarders: a free lift ticket. That free day on the slopes sounds fantastic to me — unless your birthday falls in July. Bummer.

The deal: Winter babies ski or snowboard for free at Bear Mountain and Snow Summit on their birthdays and, yes, that means the actual day. All that’s required is a photo ID. The lift ticket is good at both Southern California resorts, which are a few miles apart at Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains.

In the East Cranmore and Bellayre give free B-day tickets too.

If you need an excuse to go snowboarding or skiing with you’re Valentine how about reduced lift ticket prices?

It’s happening on Monday – Valentine’s Day – at a number of ski resorts across New England.

Mount Snow in southern Vermont is offering two lift tickets for only $49 on Monday. And if you stay the night you can enjoy some fireworks (on the slopes that is) starting at 9 p.m. After that the fireworks are up to you.

At Mad River Glen in Vermont if you kiss your honey in the ticket booth you both can ski for just $14.

There will also be kissing going on at Bromley in southern Vermont. Kiss your Valentine at the ticket booth and get two tickets for $44.

At Sugarbush in Vermont take advantage of its Valentine’s Day savings and ski or ride all-Mountain for just $14. No restrictions.

Catamount on the New York/Massachusetts border has a $369 package that gives a couple two Sunday lift tickets, a night’s lodging at the baseside Swiss Hutte, a gourmet dinner and breakfast on Tuesday.

Okemo in Vermont has an interesting love match game going on Monday.

On Monday, the resort will play cupid again by giving a new name to the “singles line.” Single skiers and riders in search of a match should plan to ride the Black Ridge Triple Chair starting at 1 p.m. on Valentine’s Day. Couples will be created randomly, on-the-spot, and in the time it takes to ride the lift to the top, fate will make a love connection, or skiers and riders can go their separate ways and return to the “Lookin’ for Love Line” again.

Guests can also participate in a Sweetheart Scavenger Hunt, a Find-the-Liftie-with-a-Heart contest, take a ride on the Timber Ripper Tunnel of Love, or play Okemo’s social media Valentine’s Day photo game. Ten oversized red hearts will be hidden along some of Okemo’s easiest ski trails on Valentine’s Day. When a skier or rider finds a heart and takes it to the Real Estate Info Desk in the Okemo Clock Tower Base Area base lodge, they will win a prize package with confections provided by M&M Mars.

Waterville Valley in New Hampshire also has 2-for-1 tickets on Monday
