heavenly this weekend

Heavenly was ok ran the dipper and comet chairs... but not really a challenge- trails a bit narrow to really open it up...

Probably won't be back anytime soon. Some one would have to work hard to convince me.

Lift tickets were.

$186 for 2 tickets.

Parked at California Lodge. We could have parked at the Marriott and pay $15 for the lot but then the raping just starts earlier.

I took a gondola to nowhere to a quasi base lift, and 2 or three more lifts before i even got to any worthwhile terrain. runs seemed vanishingly short in Vertical footage for a Tahoe resort, without good challenge, grooming or regards to safe traffic flow.

to add to this...

Shocking...

2 tiny Mahi mahi tacos (maybe 4oz of fish at most)

1 beer

1 16 oz bottle of water

--------

$32

The bottled water was $5

beer was $8

Tacos $13

You got to eat at picnic tables for ambiance listening to 1980's playlists.....

nothing "heavenly" about that at all & I went with local skier family friends...

Snow quality wasn't remarkable either.. Every time I do Heavenly and Squaw in the same weekend I wonder why I bothered to go to Heavenly- even Mt. Rose was more fun.

Am I wrong?

*you should park at the harrah or harvey casino. it is free, that is where I park and walk over to ride the gondola.

*as for drink I use my camel pack, dont buy drink or food from them, I bring snack and ride til 2pm then go down to the FIRE &ICE. have a all you can eat lunch around 15 to 20 dollars.

*lift ticket little less expensive if you purchase online advance.

*if you go to the Olympic, stage coach and ridge run it is little wider the the big dipper and comet.

you should get a trio pass 379 and ride sierra, hevenly and may be north*.

sorry about your no so good trip at the heavenly.

edit: too much snowfall. i'm pulling out.

dragonrider, i'm planning on being up on saturday and sunday (at this point, it's still a maybe for me). you might also run into another couple of hardbooters on those days, one who sports a bright orange jacket, riding on either a coiler or an SG. be on the lookout.

is the madd still your weapon of choice?

***

so sorry that we didn't get to chime in earlier, Mr. Gilmour.

IMO, in contrast to what dragonrider has said, dipper feels among the widest to me. it's just that it's only an acceptable run for about the first hour of operation until hardcore crowding occurs.

that's when we move on to either olympic or the area of ridge run, as he has said.

for afternoon riding, i go way off to the side to galaxy (might not even be open yet right now), where there is groom and no express lift (with less people, there is less crowding, and the slopes are less cut up later on in the day).

as for steeps, the only one most people know of is the Stagecoach run (left turn off of the stagecoach lift).

not gonna lie; i'm in agreement. i feel that the heavenly experience leaves a lot to be desired for the alpine boarder. if you have other options, definitely take a look!

as for food.. well, i'm a college student, so i always ride with a backpack and pack some sammiches an' drank.

Hey wun,

what is your schedule next week?, I am going up on the 23 till 26 at heavenly then posible to mt rose or other ski resort due to the black out date after 26.

Madd still my board, but just pick up a SG speed 173, I may bring both of them and play around with the SG and learn about this board.

Wun, Dragonrider,

I'll be at Heavenly the 24th-26th for sure. And I hope to be on the new SG (and a new, but similar orange jacket) the whole time if my legs hold up. I plan to be on Olympic/Stagecoach for much of the time -- I believe the 3 of us did some runs down Olympic last season. My gf will be on her FP or Donek.

I bailed out on this past weekend as well. The avalanche warning was enough to keep me at home.

Since I've been going to Heavenly (this is season #4), I've given up the idea of buying food on the hill. I usually eat a big breakfast, have a Clif Bar or two for lunch on the lift, and call it a day by 2 or 3. Saves money, and the trails empty out between 12-1.
