Raichle 5-position lean adjuster

Some quick questions about the 324s I just bought (they'd been sitting on the shelf of the shop for a few years). These are my first Raichles, and I'm trying to work out the 5-position lean adjuster.

With the lever up, does it make any difference if the dial is sideways instead of up?

With the lever down and the dial sideways, it locks for backward flex at position 3. Is it possible to get it to lock at the other positions in this mode?

if they are anything like my lemans boots, the dial cant be turned to 90 with the lever up, it just wont fit and it wouldnt do anything. To lock your boots with the powder dial, stand in your boot and lean it just below the number you want and then turn the dial then lean back to lock it on the number you like.

If they are like by SB423s, the answers are No and No - the lever won't fit with the dial turned sideways (it will be lock just like if the dial was straight up, but the lever will be half open), and the 1->3 flex of the lever down and dial sideways doesn't adjust, as far as I know.

The 5-position forward lean is the same on all the models that have it, so Fleaman and Ken have answered your question.

If you want to tweak the "lever down, knob turned 90 degrees" setting, you can accomplish that in a roundabout way by changing the cuff cant position. Be very careful when doing this because as others have noted the plastic parts strip easily. By lowering the boot cuff you put more lean into the boot, and by raising it, less.

Thanks, sounds like an interesting hack. I'll check it out.

As for my second question, Fleaman and Ken seem to contradict each other, but my limited experience with the boots agrees with Ken.

I got this from http://www.alpinecarving.com/

# With the lever down and the dial pointing up, the lean is unlocked and the boot can fully flex between positions 1 and 5 (walk mode).

# With the lever down and the dial turned, the lean can flex only between the forward-most lean positions 1 and 3 (for carving on chop with moderate suspension). This option is not available with the 3-position lean adjusters that come with the low-end models.

# With the lever up, the lean locks into the selected position. The dial must be pointing up to get the lever up.

I tested this out on my 423's, and it works! :)
