1. Teddo, you should have let me know that you were after wider board at HBU, i tought you were pure Skwal guy. You should have tested Pen Blackjack

Hey Pokkis! Of course I'm the Skwal guy, but firstly a carver :biggthump

Don't know If I was just after wider, just something new to evolve with in different directions. I sure know my new Thias will make me improve as a Skwalleur and since I had so much fun on the #two I was just looking for something new (until I could get my hands on the #two).

The Afterburners are too little action for my taste, how would you compare them to the Pen?

All Skwalling put aside, the Silverpfeil remails my favorite beeing narrow and lively.

  2. I recently picked up a nice board not really knowing much about and notice that it had a specific graphic artists name printed on the top coat. Anyone recognize the name Gudrun Geiblinger? I researched him on the internet and came across the site of his work. http://www.geiblinger.at/page_1_1.html

I'll post pics of the top sheet - pretty interesting 3D image of a Lizard - its a Heavy Tools 163.

Actually Gudrun is behind a lot of F2 designs.

  3. Just got back from a great session in Sweden with Mats from Alpinepunk.com and Joerg from pureboarding.

    What a great weekend.

Joerg's style and boards really got me inspired and I was stoked to try his "baby" - the #two board which I really liked. It really was for playing around.

    Some pics from the event.

    Hey Al! Turn around!

  4. Good news Fin. I'm also in a need of a pair of skwal bindings for Völkl monocarver. Her waist is admirable 11,5 cm.

Watch out with the Monocarver! It hasn't got standard 4x4 so I had to drill (Fin cover your ears/eyes!) extra holes in my TD discs to make it fit and can only use three screws per disc. Even then the fit was assymetrical. E.g. it fits a bit like this:

    Nose

___

oo_

_o_

___

_oo

_o_

__

    Tail

But the monocarver sure deserves the TD!

  5. So...what stances are all you skwalleurs using?

Do you actually go to 90 degrees (pointing straight ahead) with your front foot, or do you use a little bit of offset? How much splay do you have between right and left feet?

What's your "stance width"? (For a Skwal, maybe "stance length" is more appropriate :))

I go with 90/83. Can't really adjust the "lenght", but it's really tight. You shouldn't be able to open the rear binding with the front foot in if you haven't got intecs.

  6. With 90 degree angles, you will have no control whatsoever. Why do you think world cup racers try and ride witht he shallowest angles possible?

Obviously not many people here are at world cup level, but it's still the same general idea.

Are you saying I'm out of control riding on my skwals with 86-90?

It's really different to freecarve and to race... I'm after the feeling - not the fastest way down.

  7. To highlight Skwalleurs point I paste a comparison of two ancient Egyptian skiing machines. As you can see the shape differs, but the stance is the same and they ride alike. Water or snow- it's a carving show.

Wow - my favourite board! But without TD's - what a shame.

  8. Salomon Malamute is stiff too, maaybe a tad stiffer than the driver

vans and DC make some rigid boots as well but I don't like them as much as the stuff I already mentioned

of the group the Ion is probably all around the best boot, malamute the stiffest and the driver is my preferance because it's cheaper and slightly stiffer than the ion.

I'm confused. The starter of this thread stated that the soft boots were just as stiff as a pair of winds... Having riden Winds and Head Stratus Pro over the last 5 years I got a pair of Malamutes to use in some off-piste applications last year. And having been in hard-boots for such a long time the Malamutes felt like a pair of sneakers in comparison. Is there some way of measuring stiffness I'm not aware of?

  9. If you carve hard on the snow you will want to carve with one ski on the water. There's nothing in the summer to cure the blues like dippin' your shoulder to the water in a nice big carve with a huge spray shooting into the air. I miss snow.

    EZE

And if you like and get used to the stance on that waterski - you should definately try the Skwal once the snow start to fall again. Nothing like it to get all that weight on the edge. :biggthump
