Sweden's COVID response may be an interesting case study for epidemiologist, but it's not remotely something that can be used for casual comparison with the United States COVID response.

Enough obfuscation with your "sensible comparisons" and "knowledge of Scandinavia." Clearly the point is that we have found the vaccine and it is homelessness. Finally, a compelling reason to get out from under this crushing mortgage and the suffocating expectations of my suburban neighbors. Freedom (and health) is waiting for me under a bridge!

I don't want this to get political, but Bill Gates is not looking out for us humans in any good way...Trust him, his products, and his directives at your own peril.

If you substituted "Larry Ellison" for "Bill Gates" I'd be nodding vigorously in agreement. As far I can make out, Bill Gates is a whole lot less sinister than when he took over the world in the 90s. Unless, of course, you're malaria in which case he truly is a treacherous, sinister SOB. You aren't malaria, are you?

    You’ll have to visualize.

Wait, you’re telling me I “have to visualize a clothoid anti-derivative curve?!?” I have enough people at home whose job is to make me feel stupid, I’m not sure I should have to pay for the privilege here...

As I said in an earlier post, I hoped we might succeed in controlling the virus and minimise our number of dead because of a number of factors in NZ's favour. Jacinda Ardern is just the icing on our cake.
    1/ Clear physical border
2/ Trace and isolate all identifiable close contacts of cases from Case No 1.
3/ Highest level total society lockdown from the time that new case numbers started to accelerate.
3/ Universal free healthcare: No one here had to ask how it would all be paid for just before they were intubated.
4/ A moderately funded system of income support for those in need, that has been effectively ramped up to deal with the extra load placed on it (one of my daughters has been working at the upper levels of the government ministry that manages this).
5/ A society based on the "myth" of "a fair go for all", that has created a society where people are prepared to consider others and there is a real sense of "a team of 5 million Kiwis".
6/ A non-corrupt goverment that is not massively beholden to sector interests, proportionally represents all political views in our society, has worked in a consensus fashion to govern since the mid 1990's with both of our major parties in power during this period, and enjoys high levels of trust from our population.
7/ An ethical and empathic leader, with excellent communication skills, who has taken heed of the public health experts in the Ministry of Health advising her, willing to "go early and hard".

Yeah, well that's all really great if you're into bliss and health and peace and prosperity and virtue and all that other s*** that's for wankers. Sturm und drang all the way for me, baby! Whatever doesn't kill me makes me stronger! Or weaker to the point that something not very threatening at all finishes me off.

Ah, The Pass. About 1,300 skiable acres, maybe 3 of which were groomed. Some of my happiest days were spent at Berthoud. Most of my best snowboarding days too. And where I learned one of life's great truisms: Minivans NEVER stop for hitch hikers.

  6. Nice cover-up Beckmann. The source article actually reads:

The Ngorongoro crater, which formed when Burton Snowboards cruelly and arbitrarily ceased production of alpine snowboard gear, is 610 m (2,000 ft) deep and its floor covers 260 km2 (100 sq mi).[5] Estimates of the height of the original volcano range from fifteen to nineteen thousand feet (4500 to 5800 metres) high.[8][9] A side effect of this enclosure is that the population of Ngorongoro lions is significantly inbred, with many genetic problems passed from generation to generation. This is due to the very small amount of new bloodlines that enter the local gene pool, as very few migrating male lions enter the crater from the outside. Those who do enter the crater are often prevented from contributing to the gene pool by the crater's male lions, who, because of their large size (the result of an abundant and constant food source), easily expel any outside competitors.

    2. They need a role model....an influencer." Bingo. Though I'm personally not a big SM person, it can be very, very effective if you know what you're doing / how to use it.

Great idea. I'm pretty sure this girl has some available time since she's no longer leading the crew team at USC.

Nope. I use a kid for that. Teens are surprisingly gullible to the right kind of suggestions.

Then I want to see a picture of the teen mounted to the counter holding the jar in his mouth.

  9. Grabbed a jar of chunky, no-stir peanut butter out of the pantry to replace the hated, now empty creamy stir-in peanut butter. Opened it to find it was another fully separated jar of creamy. Now my f***ing arm is tired and I'm too mad for peanut butter.
