  1. The skier's position is NOT natural bio-mechanically. Knees are not designed to bend laterally. The freestyle snowboard position is a natural movement for the knees, hips and ankles. ie God meant us to snowboard. There is a dirty secret about skiing, ski boots and skis. It is a sport determined by natural selection. ie All men are not created equally. One's skeletal structure determines the transference of pressure to the edge of the ski being efficient or (in most cases) very inefficient. Watch skiers. Most of them cannot carve a pure edge to save their life. It's impossible for them and they rotate and lean to compensate. This is not the case for snowboarders. Therefore, skiing sucks and snowboarding rules.:D
  2. I'm still praying Saturday will be clear as I can't make it Fri.
  3. The carve fest was awesome. Someone told me Timberline in May was great for carving but I had no idea it would be that good. I enjoyed meeting some fun guys and great boarders. The riding on Friday was epic. Those runs were easily the most memorable of the year for me and rate right up there as all time great boarding experiences. Thanks Mike for such a great idea and initiating something that, I hope, will become an annual event.
  4. I was told speed suits are not allowed in BX. I was also at the Mt. Bachelor BX. The course was intense to say the least. It had all described above and more. It truly was a test of riding ability and not who got to the first gate first. There were sections where if you went fast, you died and if you went slow, you died. If you went fast to clear the double, you were in trouble for what came next and if you went slow, you didn't clear the double and impaled into the second roller. I spoke to the Austrian coach and he was complaining about how difficult the course was. Some of his competitors who are mainly alpine pulled out of the BX after seeing it.
  5. I was at Meadows today. The 10" of powder is for real. Best thing is it covered over the old, dirty snow. It was snowing more when I left.
  6. Why not put the plates on her current board to start out. That way there are only 2 new variables instead of three. All- mountain boards perform very well with hard plate setups and are more forgiving as stated above. There are lots of great all-mountain boards out there. My 9 year old Nitro Fusion is a great board with soft boots or hard.
  7. I can be there but I'm not 100% sure yet. I was up today and it was pretty good. It never got sloppy.
  8. What is the name of the race coach that was also the founder of High Cascade Snowboard Camps?
  9. This was a conversation I had with another rider. I asked if the FPs were any good and he said he loved his and that led to his comment that it was exactly like some other board but I can't remember which it was. Seems to me it was not a custom board. It was a production board and his conclusion was they were from the same factory.
  10. I was riding with an "in the know" very good racer and he had a Burton FP. He loved it and said that it was exactly the same in specs and appearance (not graffics) as some other brand board. He said when he rode that other brand it rode exactly the same as his Burton FP. He concluded they were built in the same factory. But now I can't remember what the other brand was...anyone know?
  11. Never did meet Masterpool but some of the very best riders back then thought he was the first and last word. For me...I learned more from Kevin Delaney than I could ever hope. He is a class act too. I was a snowboard instructor and Kevin came to my area with the F2 rep in early December. He was giving a half day clinic with about 10 of the instructors. We all gathered at the base lodge to meet. He came in and went up to each one of us to learn our names. He came to me and I said, "Hi, I'm Tim." He made eye contact, smiled, and said with complete sincerity, "Tim, it's my pleasure. I'm Kevin Delaney." From that moment, he remembered everyone's name and the clinic was fantastic. The following March he came back to the ski area for another clinic. We passed each other as he was coming into the lodge. I called out, "Kevin!" He stopped, looked at me and said, "Tim, how have you been?" That was the year he won the world championship. How many people had he met in those 4 months? He remembered all of our names. The guy is a class act...and so is his brother by the way. Tim
  12. Sandman, Every once in a while I drift away from what you said, "having fun riding is what really matters," and I'm quickly reminded to get back to having fun...and my rewards are enormous. Tim
  13. Was up at Mt Hood Meadows today and the snow conditions are great for any time of year. Hope it holds into May.
  14. Kevin Delaney - Seeing him board inspired me and he gave me that one coaching tip that made it all come together for me.
  15. 2003 168 Volkl RS. Ridden 3 days. Perfect condition - no scratches top or bottom...$200.00 (Price reflects time of year and need to liquidate...not quality of board) Specs: Running length 150. Sidecut radius 11.0m. 24.4, 19.0, 23.9. Will ship within US.
  16. Everytime a good friend of mine heard someone talk about looking for sponsors, he would burst their bubble by saying, "You know what? Good snowboarders are a dime a dozen...and they break."
  17. Be careful getting so hung up on sponsorship that it becomes the focus of the sport. I have seen boarders spend so much time and money chasing sponsors that one has to ask: Wouldn't your time be better spent getting a summer job? I've also seen (at the USASA nationals) young racers with downhill suits, hard boots and racing boards getting their **tts kicked by boarders on freestyle boards and soft boots. Those freestylers aren't even that serious about racing...they're just darn good all-around boarders who know how to board and don't let the lack of sponsorship and race equipment hold them back. I've also seen skiers and boarders fall into a mindset: If I could get sponsored, I could be really good. That, of course, morphs into: Poor me, poor me. I'm a victim. So 'n so has a sponsor and that's why she beats me. I can't succeed because no one will sponsor me. I don't mean to be harsh and I'm not suggesting that any of this applies to you or your daughter. It is just that everytime I hear the topic of sponsorship come up, I think of all I have seen go on over the years.
  18. Anyone going to Timberline or Meadows on Wednesday?
  19. Anyone going to Timberline or Meadows on Wednesday?
  20. I'm probably in for 4 days. However, we are 6 weeks out so I can only say probably
  21. I haven't tried any of the custom boards. My f2 is awfully good. Is it possible the custom boards are better? Or is it just the "in" thing to have a custom board. I was at the Mt. Bachelor world cup PGS. I saw a LOT of f2s. I also saw a LOT of boards with no graffics so I assumed they were the custom boards.
  22. I'm not sure what Mondo size my Raichle boots are. The bladder says 24.5 on it. Does this mean it is a 25 shell with a bladder that has a little more volume to it to downsize 1/2 size? The shell says 269mm on it. So what size thermal liner would I get?
  23. I will be there both days so no matter to me. Also, I have 20 stubbies that are the "brushy" type. I can bring them and my drill if anyone is interested. Also, maaaaaybe my wife will want to come along and set up in one location to video. She can only make it on Sat or Sun...but don't let that be the deciding factor. We can always find someone to video on Fri.
