  1. Thanks, I was comparing the edge length, and the boards seemed similar. As for steep angles, I think this board would be better in softer stuff. I struggled with my Oxygen board out in some fresh snow in Colorado two years ago (last year I had a torn ACL), I think more because of the stiffness than the length.
  2. I'm having a similar issue, and I'm not sure if it's because I'm spending most of the day on a freestyle board teaching or if the issue has always been there (I suspect the latter). My equipment is a bit aged but still working, and I don't want to start messing around with cant plates. I was thinking of adjusting my bindings so that my toe is a little more forward, making my weight more centered on the board. But wondered if I should just do that on my front foot or both. When I start the toe side turn, I feel like I have to rotate more than for my heel side. In case it matters, I have older Burton plate bindings and an Oxygen slalom board from about 2001. 45 degrees on the front and about 30 or 35 on the back (I just adjusted it recently, and my back foot seems to want to come in more).
  3. I bought a K2 Carve Air off eBay this summer, but I'm afraid it will be too long for me. Since I usually ride a 149 Oxygen slalom board, I thought the 149 Carve Air would work, but the reviews I checked out online said it is designed to be a smaller than average board. For reference, I'm 5 feet tall, and my freestyle boards are 139 and 141. Any thoughts or suggestions from anyone who has ridden this board?
  4. I would stay close enough to go to A Basin and/or Loveland if the others are a little on the warm side, although I've been watching the temperatures for Loveland, and it has been warmer than I would like. But keep in mind that Colorado gets some of its heaviest snows in March and April.
  5. Let me know if anyone would like to meet. It has been a couple of years since I've ridden in Colorado. I plan to go to Loveland early. I don't know when I'll get to Copper yet because I'll be driving with someone else.
  6. Thanks - I think I'm going to Copper next Wednesday instead. My stepfather has a 4-pack for Copper, so I can get a lift ticket for $80 and share the drive there with him.
  7. I've never been to Monarch but am considering going next Wednesday, March 16. Is it a good place for carving, or should I go someplace else? I'll be staying in Bailey, CO, and riding at Loveland on Monday. Might consider Keystone, Breckenridge, or Copper if I can find a deal on a lift ticket.

    Yo Lci!!

Anyone riding at Loveland next Monday? March 14? I'm going to be in town and looking for company. The last time I rode at Loveland, I left in an ambulance (whiplash and concussion after being mowed down by a skier). Hoping to not repeat that experience!
  9. Ha ha! And I thought I got a late start - rode in my first hard boots three years ago at age 47 and have not put on soft boots since! The first time I used hard boots, I went all the way to the top at Loveland, and then I had to go all the way to the bottom to adjust the bindings. I started conservatively and just kept adjusting the bindings to where my feet wanted them to be. Someday maybe I'll even have a chance to take a lesson. For now, my board is a novelty at the local hill. The first time I was out this year, I had several kids asking about my board - it's an older Oxygen slalom board that's almost as tall as me (I'm five feet tall if I stretch a little).
  10. Thanks for all of the responses. I decided against it after I read the first two or three posts, but I tried some bodysurfing at the Canaveral National Seashore, or at least what counts as bodysurfing for me. The main thing is that I enjoyed myself, and if I found myself in Florida again with a little more time, maybe I'll try some surf lessons.
  11. I'm leaving for Florida tomorrow, and it dawned on me that I could take a surf lesson or two while I'm there. When I snowboard, I sometimes think surfing must be a little like carving. Can anyone tell me if this is the case? While my snowboarding help with surfing? Will I feel anything like the carve of a snowboard in just a day or two or surfing?
  12. Thanks for the responses! The audiology NP I see thought I just had a virus and said it can take several weeks to recover. I was fine about six or seven weeks after it started, but I'm glad to know that some folks with vertigo are still able to get out and ride - just in case this happens again. Unfortunately, I only got one day of riding in this year, but that was more because of work, school, and lack of money than because of the vertigo. The the day I got (actually an evening in Wisconsin) was great!
  13. I've been dealing with vertigo for about a month and am wondering if anyone has ever ridden with vertigo. On one of my bad days, I'm sure I can't, but I wonder if it would make a slight case worse or not have any effect. I wasn't planning to ride much this winter as I have too many other irons in the proverbial fire, but I'd like to get in at least a few days.

    A-Basin

I'm also hoping to get out there this spring, but it will be late - after Memorial Day. My brother who lives in Aurora has been telling me that the mountains have gotten some good dumps this year, though. I've been to A Basin in June a few times, and sometimes it's better than in May. You just never know.
  15. Thanks for the feedback. My daughter (age 24) tried out a freestyle board that I think will work well for her, but she had problems with her boots and only got a few runs in. We figured out the problem (one liner wrapped the wrong way, causing a bruised shin - also may be too big) and will try again next year with a different pair of boots. It was too late for her to try a different pair yesterday because her shin hurt so bad, and she was disappointed because she was feeling more confident. I thought the few runs she did were a great start. I may also be riding with my brother at A Basin in June and will take an alpine board for him to try, so I appreciate the comment about a proficient skier. My daughter is not a skier, but my brother is an expert skier who couldn't get the hang of snowboarding. I thought an alpine board might work better for him, and he has a pair of AT boots, which I understand will work with an alpine board and bindings. For my part, I tried out a pair of snow blades, and those seem like they might be fun, but definitely not a replacement for my alpine snowboards.
  16. I'm finally getting my daughter out to snowboard, and it has been about four or fives years since her last time. She's never gotten off the bunny slope, and I still have her freestyle board (I took it over until I got into hard boots last year). Now I have three carve boards and two freestyle boards, and I'm wondering what to have her use this weekend, assuming I can find some liners for my second pair of hard boots.. If she goes with soft boots, I have a pair of 1st generation Flow bindings she wants to try. I bought almost everything used (two older Burtons and an Oxygen board), and nothing is high-end.
  17. No worries about ice this weekend. I'm looking into going next weekend (March 9th and 10th).
  18. I'm thinking of riding here next weekend. How is it for carving? Also, do they have a good beginner area and a good chair lift for beginners (my daughter)?
  19. Looking for liners in a size 24.5 to fit a pair of 22-24.5 Raichle shells.
  20. I went to Granite Peak during my spring break last year, and the snow was good. But as someone else pointed out, the runs all flatten out at the bottom. The ones that have rollers are kind of fun, but most of them just wore out my legs straightlining it to the lift when I'd rather be carving turns. I probably wouldn't go back. However, it's in a state park which has trails for snowshoeing and x-c, depending on the snow. I stayed at a Days Inn in Wausau just a few miles away, but I didn't have a room with a kitchen. I just microwaved stuff for dinner, had the hotel's free breakfast, and took sandwiches for lunch.
  21. There has been a Burton asymmetrical board on eBay for a few weeks. I've read at least one article about one happened to assymetrical boards and the difference in the riding style, but I'm wondering if there is any use for one still? I currently have two older Burtons (symmetrical), and a brand new board is probably not in my budget for a couple of more years.
  22. So which are the best resorts near Glenwood Springs for hardbooting? Is Sunlight a decent place? After I went to Colorado last year, I told myself I wouldn't go this year, but here I am in September considering taking the train out to Glenwood Springs in early January.

    Yo Lci!!

I can't comment on instructors (haven't taken any carving lessons yet) although one of the ski instructors at Loveland told me there was a snowboard instructor there with carving gear. I left a message with the ski school reception desk, though, and never got a call back. For getting used to hard boots, I took someone else's advice and went to the top of lift 6 at Loveland because it's wide and not too steep. It was a good choice.
  24. I can pay for them as soon as I get payment information from you!
