  1. All the 'tests' and any activities I've previously done indicated I was goofy, so that's the way I set up my board when I first started riding (softies).

My goal was to ride equally as well in both (switch & regular) directions as I always enjoyed that in skiing. When I started getting better, I realized I was riding 'equally as well in both directions', but they both suc-ed! I also noticed that when I rode my best it was 'switch'. I figured this was telling me I needed to change my stance and start riding 'regular' and have been riding that way ever since.

  2. It's amazing how after an eye-opening experience like that, how quickly we are reminded of the beauty in life and the things that are important to us. It's events like this that make us appreciate what we have in life. If we didn't seek the thrills that we seek, we would likely be bored and bitter. Those who ask us why we do what we do, simply, don't understand... There are also those that don't care to understand.

"One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it's worth watching"

Whether it's descending tight singletrack at Winter Park, clipping the bars on a tree, then making the earth shake while attempting to displace a tree to a new location; launching a blind roller, at the apex of the trajectory noticing a 90deg bend in the trail, with the ensuing carnage resulting in a helmet literally exploding; focusing on the next gate, getting stuck on an edge, departing the run at mach 99 and trying to cut a tree in half with one's torso, or attempting to pedal up an erosion log at the apex of a switchback, eating sh$t, and walking away with the handgrip waffle pattern imprinted on the chest; we come back for more! We do what we do because it's who we are!!

DT, Very Well said & glad Bigs is OK :biggthump

  3. baldylox, I'm assuming you mean the 'top spring' (not the toe spring) catches on the BTS housing. I put a chamfer (radius) on the inside of the Housing using a deburring tool to help reduce this as much as possible and keep the spring from hanging up on the sharp edge of the housing.

  4. lidirtrider, other than Berkshire East, unfortunately their are no known places to rent hardboots on the east coast in the USA. Your best bet as mentioned before is the Bomber For Sale Board. At least you were fortunate enough to get to ECES and know the sizes you need. Good Luck.

  5. I'm heading up to ECES on Sunday and would like to find a place to watch the Daytona 500 somewhere between Troy and Stratton. I'm not a nascar freak, but would like to see the 500. Anyone have any suggestions ? Mulligan's in Manchester / or Stratton ??

  6. Well a few of my buddies ride soft boots and they can ride just about every condition besides ice. They can EC just as good as any hardbooter when conditions are right.

I choose to ride HB's cause I live in the Northeast and find that I have more fun and ability on alpine setup considering where I ride.

But god bless we get a pow day; I'll be on my soft boot set up.

Last Friday was a softie day @ the Loaf; soft boot day! Justifies my purchasing the gear.

And too SoftieBootsailor; don't take it personal but I feel compelled to crap on ya when you say ignorant stuff considering your on an alpine dedicated forum and Sh!t on alpine riding. Don't get my wrong; I'm not an elitist; I'm far from good at alpine or soft boots. I just have way more fun on alpine.

Do you even have an alpine setup? If not why are you on here? Are YOU trying to be an elitist yourself?

    Flame War OVA.

Marc, I'd like to know when SBS has A: said ignorant stuff, B: Sh!t on alpine riding (specific examples please).

I for one did NOT realize this site was only for Alpine Snowboarders, maybe SBS didn't either (along with a lot of others).

SBS trying to be an elitist, that's a good one.

When I seen your first post, I thought you were quite possibly a friend of Bob's (SBS) and being sarcastic (in a fun way, as I myself often am) but it is obvious that is not the case.

I'm sure IF you ever had the opportunity to meet, ride and talk with this 'elitist' your tune would be quite different. Anyone and pretty much everyone that has had the opportunity to attend SES see his riding style and or meet Bob in person respects his Awesome Riding Style and his Love for the Ride and Stoke he brings with him.

  7. I would call Bomber and ask if they are bringing Demo Boots to ECES. I think BEAST has some Alpine Demo Gear (but not sure about boots)?

No shops on the East Coast to my knowledge, any longer stock Alpine Snowboard Boots unfortunately. Your best option may be to order every brand you can in your size, try them on for fit & feel, keep the ones that fit best and return the others (of coarse I'd recommend asking / mentioning that to the seller before purchasing).

Other than that, come to ECES and ask to try on other riders boots for general fit.

I'm in a 27.5 Head Stratos, you'd be welcome to try them on, but not sure IF you'd find any new Heads in 27.5 around ?

  8. JP - thats not fair, I'm stuck here working and getting ready to plow the driveway for the first time.....

That is the only positive thing I have found thus far about working 2nd shift "First Tracks / Fresh Groom" :biggthump

Thursday 1-16-14 were the new 'best conditions of the season" for us so far, hoping tomorrow (Monday) morning is better :D
