  1. Coiler VSR 170 $275 + shipping.

Serial # / specs:  T170 VSR T 010 MT1 7.5 + 6.   The 2nd T is for "tight"  which if memory serves, is a 10.5/12.7/11.5 sidecut.   20cm waist.   Ideal rider weight about 180lb.    Built Jan 2010.  I find the sweet spot to be front binding centered, rear binding 1cm back of centered.   Standard Coiler inserts, 2x4 centred on 19.5" .  It's had a few base grinds but not loss of camber, edges good, plenty of life left.

  2. Great pickup!   I have the first 174 NFCE ever made ("Hey Bruce - how about a cross between a Nirvana and an Angrry 170?"   This, before the Nirvana flavors had names... prior to this, they were all what came to be named the Balance).    After 5 years of it being my go-to board, I ordered a copy last spring.   Still my favorite (the new one... the old one has lost a bit of bite in the nose and is now my favorite early season board ever), out of my not-insignificant quiver.

  3. If you want "similar, but different" then a Coiler Nirvana Energy might be the answer.   I've got the 174, 20 cm waist, low taper, 12/14 sidecut version, built fairly soft for my 180 pounds and it's the most fun board I've ever ridden.

If you were a bit heavier I'd suggest the Donek MK... or see if Sean @ Donek would be able to tune it to your weight.   I have a stock MK and it's about as stiff as I'd want at 180#.

If you want something longer and faster yet very manageable,   the Coiler Monster might be an interesting choice.

  4. Do what makes you feel like you're in a balanced, athletic stance...

... you might also find this to be a good read:   http://www.bomberonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Separate-Zee-Knees.pdf .  If you are a "knees together" type of rider, separating them may alleviate some discomfort.

FWIW, I probably take the "separate zee knees" thing to an extreme... several people have commented during past SES's LOL!

  5. The MK is the real deal... edge hold (check), grunting noises (yeah).

What surprised me is just how intuitive the board felt... I ride mostly Coilers, and felt right at home on the MK from run #1.    (I usually need a few runs to get used to another maker's board...).   I didn't *have* to ride it like a Madd, but when I did, it was more fun.

Mine was an impulse buy upon getting the Black Friday email from Donek... and I'm glad I was impulsive.   It is a welcome addition to my mostly-Coiler quiver, and will get as much ride time as each of the Coilers.  It definitely reminds me of the original Mad 158 I had for a couple of years,  but also a little b it of my Nirvana Energy 174.   When I **** up I know I'm not on a metal board, but when my technique is solid, it has every bit as much grip.

  6. Trying to decide between NICE, WTF, and SES.   Can probably only do 4 days whichever one I go to.   How are the roads around Whitefish during winter?  I drive a AWD sedan that will have good snow tires, but it's a little under 5" ground clearance, would I be OK driving up?
