  1. I'll be in Summit this weekend and will drop the Transworld mag off to Fin. (I only read it because it's free.) Isn't Kurt Hoy, their editor-in-chief, an ex-racer/hardbooter? just wondering
  2. I know you guys wouldn't be cuahgt dead reading a Transworld but there was a picture on the last page that had a hardbooter, Jeff Greenwood, in the pipe. The caption: "We catch alot of **** here at TWS in regard to content. Some people say that there isn't enough racing coverage. But let's face facts, staring at pictures of guys making turns on coduroy isn't all that exciting. Every photo looks like their sniffing their pits. Well, tell you what, if every spandex-clad dude shredded like Jeff Greenwood, we'd be all over 'em like Anna Nicole on a cheeseburger." Is that a challenge?
  3. I've lived in Winter Park since May and it's not very alpine riding friendly. There are plenty of groomed slopes to rip but yes, the catwalks will drive you crazy. I see very few alpine set-ups here but that could change in the next five years when they double the number of lifts and make the resort easier for riders to get around. The competition center pretends that snowboard racing doesn't exist and the kids comp program is entirely focused on freestyle. They have no chance to run gates even if they want to. It's frustrating when the only means of training for racing is in the Nastar course.
  4. I've ridden the board and it rocks. It takes some getting used to but it hugs the ice. That's a good question about tuning it, though. Call Nichole Nemmers and see if you can demo the Magma. 303-202-5993
  5. Don't pack your bags and move to Breck to teach snowboarding just yet. Just because the resort charges $300 for a 2.5 hour lesson doesn't mean the instructor is getting rich. He will probably make $10-15/hour, so tip!
  6. If you're going to pay $71 plus lift ticket, go to Monarch. At least for that price, the terrain will amaze you all day. Keystone's kind of, well, lame.
  7. I see your point. I need it more in the GS. I could probably get away with my freeride/BX board for slalom. My skill level is probably pathetic. It might take some time and coaching to be able to use this stuff. But I'm very curious to see what kind of time I can shave off my GS. Also interested in a speed suit. Wm's med. cindy
  8. Thanks. Thanks, that's really helpful. I didn't even know what length would get me thru GS and slalom. And thanks for all the suggestions. I'll check eBay after I've read up on what I need. cindy
  9. Just inherited a pair of old Raichle boots from a girlfriend ('97?). When I put in my inserts they fit like a glove, although I may have to put some time in the weightroom just to handle the buckles! Now I'm shopping for a board and plates that won't break my bank. I'll be using it for GS and slalom races mostly, the more versatile, the better. I'm 5'6" and weigh 130. Any recommendations? Got anything you'd like to get rid of? Thanks, Cindy
  10. I have been racing USASA GS and slalom (and BX but I prefer to remain on softs for that)for 5 years and the competition is getting stiffer each year. My girlfriend offered me a free pair of Raichle's just my size. Do you have anything for a 5'6" woman who weighs 135lb? Thanks, Cindy Kleh Winter Park 970-726-0065
  11. I met Line at a Vans Triple Crown years ago. She was so open to reporters and seemed unaffected by all the pressure of racing BX at that level. She was a class act and one of the best BXers in the world. It's too bad she won't be racing in the 2006 olympics. ck
  12. Where can I find info on the history of the alpine industry? How did it evolve? Who were the major early innovators (besides Fin)? Thanks for the help, Cindy Kleh
  13. Thanks, but I wrote that. That was part 3 of a 5-part series. I plan to expand on the alpine scene today and its future. Cindy
  14. Thanks for the comments! I am especially interested in media and marketing's role in phasing out alpine and the larger companies' reluctance to discuss it. Has anyone purchased equipment from klugriding.com? Is Klug the only alpine rider that Burton has kept on their team? Do any other manufacturers sponsor alpine riders? What about the Olympic GS event? Is that just a joke to manufacturers? Why did boardercross make Olympic status ahead of slopestyle or big air? (FIS?) Just curious ... Cindy
  15. Looking for facts and comments about the direction of the snowboarding industry and the future of alpine riding/availability and price of alpine equipment. Thanks.
  16. Kirtap, I am not all that computer-savvy. Can u e-mail me at ckleh63193@aol.com or call me at 970-513-9055. The board has minor scratches, maybe ridden once or twice. Can't see them unless u look real close. It's just a deck, no bindings. Sun/Tues bad days to call. Cindy
  17. Kirtap, I have a 157 Nitro Rangell that is too long for me. After inspecting it closer, it has been used once or twice. I could let it go for $150. There are a few scratches on the top but the base and edges are immaculate. You are from Montana? Minnesota? Cindy
