  1. However, I do have a used but GOOD 197!! Make me an offer I CAN'T refuse...got the specs to my new Tinkler picked out...
  2. 'Gear-Review-Bunghole' Alert!!
  3. No Allee...and it's YOUR style. OK, what I see here is a discussion focused more on types of turns and technique to make the turn happen - all being called "style". I guess style and technique are interchangable. For me, I look at style and technique as separate entities (sorta). You can take a group of riders and employ a technique ...say EC and watch each rider effectively execute the turn, but each with his/her own signature or "style". Watch a group of WC racers in the course - all employing a more centered (plenty of angulation) type of approach to making the turn, but each displaying their own trademark - trunk/torso postion, hands, shoulders, etc. The rider puts his/her own style into their riding technique - making it theirs! This has been discussed in the past, so nothing necessarily new. A fun discussion nonetheless. Just my $.02
  4. Yes, but this is not a "soft boots vs hard boots" discussion. Just different schools of thought presented on stance - preference, pros and cons. Plenty of people ride softies on this forum. Might be interesting poll among soft boot riders here as far as stance pref goes.
  5.   See, someone gets it!! And they sure look like they can fight too
  6. Interesting concept presented here. I trained for many years in Wing Chun Kung Fu and the fighting posture/forward stance is very simalar to my binding angles and stance width, except that the stance is slightly open for balance while sparring/fighting. Feels VERY comfy and natural.
  7. All I can say about this is that, if my weight distribution is balanced and consistent throughout the turns, my legs get a very even, symetrical workout. This while riding in the 54-60 deg range, 3-5 deg splay. I'll know that I need to adjust my riding when I start feeling significant fatigue in one leg and not the other. I really don't feel that this is a function of my forward stance. For riding pow, I can see how being able to ride switch equally well may minimize the "rear leg burn" issue IF you are consistently/conscientiously riding both directions. If you can get through a knee deep day without some notable burning and fatigue on your rear leg, I say good on ya mate!

Place to stay in Park City

Yeah, I remember now. Actually it was during the latter half of the '04/'05 season. Boy, Eden/Liberty is an area I am not too familiar with in terms of rental - I know that there has been quite a bit of building (new homes - BEAUTIFUL $$$) going on in the area over the past year. Have you talked to any of your former Powder Mt. co-workers about housing in the area? I know from talking to a few that some live in that area.
  9. While snowboarding biomechanics may have had some influence, I'd say lifestyle and conditioning are going to play a big factor here too.

Place to stay in Park City

When you say 'teach' in reference to Deer Valley, you meant skiing right? Hey, I was just looking at your profile and I see that Powder Mt. is your 'home mountain' and that you have a Donek Axis 172. Have you instructed at Powder Mt ? The reason I ask is that I met a guy last season who instructed there but did not live in the area during the off season - guy rode a Donek Axis 172. Name was Bert - that you?
  11. Can't think of ANY that have NO grooming. Many of the resorts will have a grooming report on their website - check 'em out as the dates get closer. It's really best to try to hook up with someone that is familiar with the hill. Some resorts will groom one time and some will roll out certain trails 2nd shift. Don't worry, there are plenty of places to carve with more than enough vert. for you Eastern Canucks ;) Around here you can split your day between carving the groom and searching for freshies in one area. Hey, come to WTC and hang with other 'smelly snowboarders' ! You could always send your ski buds to hang with the yups at Deer Valley Hell, based on my observations there are plenty of 'fresh smelling' skiiers at PC - I think Apres-ski starts around 1:30 or so  I'll let the PC people comment on lodging specifics, but in general you're going to pay more than you would in SLC. If $$ is no object, check out some of the slopeside accomodations at the Canyons - those look reeeally nice. Skully might have a bit more info/experience on that situation.
  12. Old Volvos nailed it! WTC! Plenty of good-size resorts: PC, Canyons, Bird, Snowbasin - all good choices. For powder stashes, I'll still put a recommendation in for Powder Mt. Uh...all of 'em. But not sure if that was your real question there??

    Board edges

However they come from the factory - I just try to keep 'em sharp and polished.
  14. Sounds OK by me. Now we are just talking about the cant disk and not the e-ring, right? I kinda like my current e-ring set up for now - not lookin' to get rid of any of 'em.
  15. Hey, I'd be willing to give up a 3 deg. cant for a 6 - Mike? Anyone?
  16. A snowboarding philosophy and concept that I strongly try to adhere to Midweek at Powder Mt. - you can skate up and startle the lift operators that are dozing off Snowbasin - similar situation. You'll be on a first name basis with the lift ops by the end of the morning :D
  17. You'll find Billy, Dave and the rest of the Hardbooter crew in Park City mostly and Phil is the head coach for the PCSB alpine team. Look 'em up! Where to ride? Well, if you're staying in SLC, take your pick! Brighton, Soitude, Snowbird...and if you do the two-plank thing, Alta ( - directed to one of four hold-out resorts) You should take a day or two ride PC and/or the Canyons. Plenty of choices! You've picked a good time to come to the area and you will probably encounter a variety of riding conditions. In other words - BRING SOMETHING FOR POW! Night riding - Brighton! Though 4wd can come in handy, you should be fine with a front-wheel drive. A REALLY heavy dump can shut down the Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons for short period of time (hours), but these roads are generally well maintained. Same with I-80 to PC - not generally a problem. Yes, they 'Recommend' 4wd and/or chains - but the NEED is more of an exception rather than the rule in my experience. The state transit authority (www.rideuta.com) has bus services that go up Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons (Brighton, Solitude, Snowbird, Alta), not sure about SLC to PC - probably something available.
  18. Uh, not with the newer snowpro race series. The heel block is fairly narrow and has small wings on the sides - the intec pins catch on this and will not allow the heel to rest on the block surface. Kind of a bummer :(
  19. "Even sometimes classics must go, been selling away 3 Burner 188s, 1 Burner 178" Well, I guess if I had two custom Tinklers in my quiver, I could see parting with my Burners ;)
  20. Hey, check w/Mellow: http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?t=12017
  21. Those Ubertis are nice - always loved that particular config. of the Colt SAA. Thought about one of those myself a while back - .45 LC would have been the cal. of choice for me.
  22. Hey, me too! It wasn't an original Remington (THAT would be worth some serious $$$!). Pedersoli case-hardened receiver, customized stocks and a Douglas heavy round barrel (1-18" twist), topped off with C. Sharps Arms mid-range rear (tang) and globe front. BPCR is a very fun and unique shooting discipline. I sold it to a friend just recently. Kinda miss it but I hadn't shot the thing in years. The $ was put to good use With about 68 gr. (by volume) of FFg or Cartridge grade GOEX and a 500 gr bullet, she kicked pretty good! VERY accurate! At one time (many years ago) I had a Shiloh on order (4-year wait at the time) and had to cancel the order due to other financial issues.
  23. Interesting. Rode one day (first half of the morning) on my 197 last season in some semi-tracked up fresh - Uh, NOT optimal My BX deck seems to do just fine. There are other tools out there that are no doubt better, but this is working for me for now.
