Ultimately, I'm looking to acquire a Donek or Coiler in the future but I would like to start out/progress on something a little cheaper first. I understand that I'm not going to get all the features by going with a mass-produced board and that's something I would have to live with.
I've missed out on a few really good deals in the for sale forum since I've started looking earlier this year. Trust me, I'm always on the look-out for deals there
.
My Prior 4WD is still available if you;re interested...

The Rally is back! Check out the post on the Greater Bahston Area page.

We're reviving the Rally at the Thunderdome this February 24th & 25th! at Berkshire East in Charlemont, Ma. It'll be a great opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones while trenchin' the BEast.
Unfortunately, it's "unofficial" this year: no discount tickets (so far); or fabulous raffle prizes; or super-models to sit with at the bar. But it should be GREAT anyway!
We'll keep a list here of who's going, so post up if your in!
The List:
Whitehorse - Sat & Sun
Kym - Sat & Sun
Armtron2000
lafcadio
ktv
dingbat
Powdahbonz
Ween
Bob L
Billy T

Aw man. Sorry I couldn't make it up. Funds have been tight lately.
I hear that! No problem.

It was a great day at the BEast! Hero Snow all over the hill, with big areas of deep machine powder. Exhibition was terrific. Perfect for trenching. Rode with Kym the Lift Guy all morning. That guy can really lay down some turns!

It's on for tomorrow... Sunshine!

I'll be at the BEast on Wed. Jan 24th. It's forecast to be a Bluebird Day. Come on out!

Butternut is a good bet. They're open today. Great Barrington, Ma. 2hrs
Mowhawk Mtn in Cornwall CT is also open today. Another good choice. 1 1/2 hrs
You could try Ski Sundown in New Hartford. It gets kind of crowded. 1 1/4 hrs

Great to see you lafcadio, Armtron and Brian on Sunday! Excellent conditions despite the chill on the hill.
Anyone thinking about this Monday, MLK day?

It's not on that list (most boards aren't) but I'll recommend the Ride Berserker. It's got a powder nose and a carving body. I got it last month and I've only got 1 day on it, but my fisrt impression is WOW ! I'm riding hardboots at 45/20 and it carves great. The snow was very firm NE manmade with a few inches of overnight natural snow in top. The nose rode up and over any piles and the board carved aggressively. Great edge hold and a damped feel.

My biggest revelation on heel side turns came as a result of being coached by Bobby Bugs to "Crouch and Really Look Up Hill" not just across the hill, way up hill. That'll rotate the shoulders which pulls the hips around, drives the back knee forward, down and in. For me, it was awesome!

It seems like the big board manufacturers are all offering full or mostly camber boards now. I just bought a Ride Berserker "All Mountain" board and it carves awesomely. (is that a word?)
I'm hard bootin' it.

"I'm looking for a board that I can ride with hardboots in all kinds of conditions, not just pristine groom. I want to be able to carve up the groomers in the morning and still be able to use the same board in the afternoon when the ruts and bumps come out here on the east coast"
That's exactly what I was thinking. I settled on a Ride Berserker. I've been hard booting on it this season with good results. It's a directional big/all mountain board with a softer nose and full camber back to the tail. It carves great (at slow to moderate speeds) and runs through the soft stuff, piles and crud really well. It's not stable at higher speeds like the Prior 4WD, nor does it carve as well, but it does the "all around thing" very well. I haven't had a pow day yet but we're heading to Banff in March! (They're getting great snow this year!)
