  1. Now that the races are over for the season, I might make it up to Angel Fire once or twice more. Most likely 8th and 9th unless the AF crew wants to come down and hit Pajarito. But I'm looking at hitting Pajarito March 15th. And then I have work off March 19th through the 23rd. yup, that's right, I'm going to go for 4-5 days up at Taos. I heard word there may be a "Free Tacos" party night of Wednesday the 19th. I'll post more details as I get them.
  2. DAMN IT!!! DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT. I'm so pissed at myself for not checking the message board in a while. I raced both BX events, Feb 23rd and March 1st, using plates on my F2 speed-cross <img src=http://www.f2snow.com/2005_6/img/board/small/speedcross.gif> Came in 3rd in the first one, but got eliminated in the second race The rules on hard boards for BX state it must have "rounded" corners if not rounded tail, ie a Volant SL board won't cut it. Or maybe that's the problem, it is more likely to skewer someone. Be sure to always send me a direct message and I'll be sure to figure out how to make this stupid thing send me a notice anytime anyone posts to the NM list.
  3. eh, I wouldn't sell yourself short. Besides, its more about fun and learning through friendly competition. We'll have to get some stubbies for practice another time. Have a good weekend on the snow.
  4. The first Slalom and Giant Slalom is this Saturday Jan 19th at Angel Fire resort. Check http://www.usasa.org for more details or post questions here. Hope to see some more hard booters out there.
  5. Hey John, are you hitting Angel Fire tomorrow, Sunday Jan 13th? Or Pajarito is 100% open. I finally got to ride my 166 F2 Speedcross and it rocks. First snowboard Slalom and Giant Slalom race of the season is next week at Angel Fire and I'd like to get out and ride one more day beforehand. If you are definitely going tomorrow, give me a call. I'll send you personal notice for my # if you still got it. Everyone else here, I'll check back later today to see if anyone is interested.
  6. PS how's your summer been? Mine's been hectic, but I'm looking forward to winter. As for as snow forcast, I haven't heard anything good. But who knows, think happy snow vibes.
  7. Pony up the extra $99 and get the six pack too. I'm draging you up to Angel fire for the GS/Slalom races by your shiney hard plastic boots!! That's six weekends; or at least a couple of race weekends, and 4 sunday's you can lend/barter the pass to somebody else. Think about it. And any other NM peeps reading this post, lets race!!!
  8. I live in ABQ, so wherever there's snow and I can get a cheap deal on lift tickets. But I usually hit Angel Fire most. I like the crew up there and they are big time carving/race community promoters. I grew up ridding Los Alamos' local Pajarito ski area so that one is always a favorite to go back to. But if we get enough people, I'm always up for a Wolf Creek or A-Basin trip.
  9. Hey cool Southwest riders. Its been since April since someone last posted. I got to make a few turns near the end of the season, broken wrist and all, at NorthStar in Tahoe. Slush, no powder and certainatly not on my carving board :( But now everything is healed and I'm getting psyched about this next season. Lets start getting in touch and planning some trips. Hope everyone's summer was great.
  10. At what number of posts do I get above my skidder status anyways?
  11. Sounds like a good pizza and beer plan for nursing the summer time, no snowboarding blues.
  12. So I'm a BSG geek But still, FRACK!!!!! Got back from the ortho today. My broken wrist slipped slightly with out doing anything stupid like going snowboarding. They said if it slips any more, I will need surgery, so don't do anything stupid like go snowboarding. So no snowboarding for this weekend, and no racing GS and slalom at nationals. I'm bumed :-( I may still go to Tahoe and volunteer at nationals, but who knows. I still have some stuff up at the shop in angel fire, so I may go up to pick it up. Or my AF friends may bring it to nationals. Well here's to hoping I win the lottery so I can go to south america for snowboarding this summer. Keep in touch and we'll start making next season trip plans this fall. Maybe even get a tramp for air practice this summer.
  13. yea, I wanted to say if and when you're ready. But in the mean time, if you do come up with rdy_2_carve, I'll definately be willing to do some riding analysis, clinic and throw some tips your way. I agree, its not that hard boots magically make you a better caver. But the point is to work at learning to carve really well in your soft set up. Then when you feel confident, and really want to take your carving to the next level, then step into the hard boots and plates. But it does help to hang with some carvers.
  14. Santa fe could be better if they didn't have their head some place else. But then I'm just biased against the management who doesn't encourage any sort of competition or team environment. I still think Angel Fire is the best place to carve in NM, but it is more because of the people. They use competition (GS,SL) to improve and everyone encourages everyone else and work mutually to help improve ridding habits. Plus there's more hard booters per capita at Angel Fire then any where else in NM. Experience Snowboards does have basic hard boot equipment to rent there too. I do agree, if you can make an Expression Sessions event, it does help your riding immensely
  15. Looks like RDY_2_Carve is gurning me to extend beyond my skidder posting status. Hey I just broke my wrist racing boarder-X so typings tough. I blame the fact I didn't have a board I could mount plates on. But really I just need to start using wrist guards and probably other armor while I compete in that event. Bamboo_Girl, welcome to the world of snowboarding, and event better to the experience of carving. I've been snowboarding for 15 years, teaching boarding for 6 of those years and riding plates for 5 of those years. In coaching a friend, she said it was an amazing transition when she finally realized the thin white line of carving. As John was saying, Angel Fire is a very friendly place and everyone is very encouraging of expanding your ability. Experience Snowboards is a great shop, and they even have all the Hard Boot gear you can rent or maybe even demo for trying plates. I'm planing on catching up with John(rdy2carve) the weekend of the 24/25th. So like its been said, nothing helps improve your riding like learning by osmosis through hanging with a pack of advanced riders, so hope to catch you up there.
  16. I'm saving up for USASA Nationals, but I really want this board. Currently riding a 3-4 year old F2 Speedster 177 std. addition for GS racing. This board would be sweet. Well if something turns around, I'll get in touch with you.
  17. Once again, a day late. You met up with Jim. He's a cool guy and was racing the day before as well. I was trying to convince him to try the boarder cross races at the end of Febuary. Hope he comes over for that. But hey, just to get you hungry for crashing gates, I make take you up on hitting Sandia Sunday morning. I'll send you email, but I was debating hitting Pajarito Saturday. You may want to bring both soft and hard for that mountain. The grooms are steep, but the powder is deeper. If not this weekend, we should make plans for the near future. I wonder if we could hook you up with a six pack at Angel Fire. One year I got both a six pack (6 for $99) and a Sunday for $99. That was 6 full weekends for less then $200. Keep an eye out at the end of the season, they offer current pass holders (sunda only incl.) next season including summer for $199. I missed out on that last year, but bought in the year before (yes, the one with the crappy season).
  18. My favorite areas are Angel Fire and Pajarito. Angel Fire because there are more carvers there then any where else and the attitude and community are very supportive. Pajarito because the the mountain is steep and challenging. Only problem is they are all natural snow so they've had a few seasons where they haven't been able to open. But when the snow is deep, the mountain rocks. Its my first hill and and will always be a place I go back to, especially when I need to get my ridding back in shape. Its like the grasshopper returning to the Sefu. RDY_2_Carve, I think I met you on the Angel Fire lift last weekend. I'm still embarrased you caught me on my free ride board with soft boots, but hey, you were a day late. I was hard booting it all day the day before till they kicked me off the mountain. Hope to see you up at the USASA Races Januarry 27th at AF. But if not, we'll have to catch up and make some carves.
  19. I'm interested in joint lodging. Is anyone interested in a few 5 gal kegs of home brew? Todd, you still have space on your floor? Pizza and beer sounds like a good combo.
  20. I can bring kegs of home brew. What flavors of beer do people like? I make a Damn Good House Porter. An award winning ESB. A Trappist that makes most people happy :D. And a few other varieties. I could bring a bunch of 5 gal kegs, which means more variety, or full 15 gal kegs. Either way, it will be on CO2 so no worries about stale beer.
  21. As a USASA competitor, I am looking forward to this event. I've been trying to make SES for three years now. Through making dozens of breakfast burritos for co-workers I can finally afford to go. See everyone on Saturday.
  22. ok, I found a cheap place in Basalt, CO for the Aspen portion of SES. I can go ahead and make reservations if you are interested for sunday night / monday night. Let me know.
  23. Was the Hostel Fireside Inn and Hoste? http://www.firesideinn.com/ So will the Free buss get you to Beaver Creek, Copper, and A-Basin?
  24. Met Jim (I think) this weekend at the USASA Slalom and GS race in Angel Fire, NM that was interested in shared lodging. If you are out here, post a reply. Any other people too, let me know if you are interested.
  25. Looking for people interested in sharing lodging for SES '04 to help offset the cost.
