  1. Yeah, I too have noticed the same thing! "Hey, your THAT guy! Sweet board, dude. Is it fun? I would like to try that ..." I've also been to shops that have no idea what it is. "Is that a mono-ski?" :D Soon, very soon I'll be carving the snow ....
  2. That place is a dream! Where is that? Sunshine? Mmmm.... TASTEY!
  3. Hi! I've never heard of these gloves before, but they look rather interesting. Does anyone know anything about them? That Biomex system looks neat! Thanks! :)
  4. The MaCallan Cask Strength is also very strong: 58.4% alc/vol. Smooth though. And very tastey, especially if cut a wee bit with a coupla' cubes. Was sipping some Woodford by the fire the other night...mmmmmm. Smokey! :)
  5. Yup. Very turny! Loves to carve and as long as it is 'on edge' it is happy. Given the size of the area I get to ride in, this was the best setup. The lot isn't very steep, or long, so I decided to go for as many turns as possible at rather slow speeds. If I had a much larger place to ride, or a nice long hill without too much traffic, then yeah, I would go with Gary's recommendation of 45/30. My setup actually feels very similar to a CarveBoard I demo'd, but without the big pneumatic tires, and at a much better price. If anyone is in the CT area, I'll be happy to let them try it out. Also if anyone knows any good places to ride in CT, let me know!

    Helmets

I've had very good luck with Leedom. The quality is fantastic, the ventilation system unmatched, and the comfort is great (For my head!) But first and foremost is fit and comfort: Find a 'melon can' that fits, and is comfy, or you'll be miserable on the snow. Also, bring your goggles with you, as some goggles don't fit well with some helmets.
  7. Joecarve: YES. Definitely take the +1 approach to those spring rates. I'm using my board strictly for carving full 'C' type turns, slalom turns, and everything in between, and with the yellows the board is way too loose. There is one benefit: Balance will be improved! I have the tension on the yellows maxed out. Hopefully today, two pair of purple springs will be arriving at my door. It's two steps up from yellow, but I put a lot of power into my carves, so I'm looking for more resistance. My trucks are at 45 degrees front and rear, and this setup is great. I have not tried different spring rates yet, though I do prefer to have the rear tigher than the front. BTW: I got my siesmics and my wheels from Gary at Asphaltplayground.com He's very helpful, and will answer any questions you can come up with. He recommends 45 degrees up front, and 30 in the rear, but I don't think you'll get the carving effect you are looking for with that setup. Tell him Tom Williams sent you! ;)
  8. Water/juice to start! But after hydration ... Scotch, or Bourbon. Nothing younger than 12 years. Definitely neat.
  9. FYI: I took PSR's advice and got a pair of Seismic trucks. They go a long way to achieving that snowboard carving feel, and are way more of a hoot compared to traditional trucks. Of course my experience is limited to Randall 2's and the Seismics (quick turn 45 formula), but I don't think I'll be going back to the randalls unless I find a nice big deserted hill where I can gather up some speed.
  10. SWEET! I got hooked on carving a slalom skateboard late this summer; now I get out to the local school lot and do it under the lights as often as possible!
  11. Tabbed browsing rules!!! :D No Popup ads rule!!!! :D Fin: My current Scooby project is an 04 WRX wagon .... Yeah, I can beat the local soccer moms to the grocery store! ;)
  12. No tunes. I like to hear when people are overtaking me. Plus, I like the natural rythm that I hear in my head. No, that is different from the voices... And one of the best sounds of all is the silence during a snowstorm experienced on any mountain.
  13. I too like the idea of catagorizing threads. As you said, it does tend to keep discussions more on-topic, and makes it MUCH easier to wade through all the information. I think too much stuff will be lost/missed with the current format. Here is a link to a forum that divides things into categories. Though I will have to admit, this site took it too far. As a result, I haven't been too active there. (I was also there from the beginning, so mebby the novelty is wearing off... or I know everything there is to know! :D ) They have regional forums, techincal forums, and everything else imaginable.
