  1. Yup, the Super Carve was entirely my design. It evolved into the Velocity (the yellow one above).
  2. Randomly, this board I designed back in 1999 just popped up for sale - at the time a totally cutting edge design. It's crazy how you look back and think of the fun days you had, and how those memories are stimulated by something as bizarre as this... ;-)
  3. I've done the same thing - went from hard boot racer/carver on a 182 carbon deck and the stiffest boots you can find, to a short side trail slush slasher (but still kinds sorta carve groomers soft boot style) Boards I've tried that work well are the Jones (I forget the name but its a split tail), K2 Cool Bean, Moss Wing Swallow (and Swallow looks good but have not tried it), Rome notch swallow, and Burton Familly Tree. I have not tried the Arbor Terapin but want to... I've come to find that a really soft nose that just bends up and over stuff is great, and an equally soft tail (if its not too short) allows you to compress it (split tails do the same) and turn on a dime like pivoting a surfboard on the fins.
  4. you should see the other side of her board....
  5. As suggested by my wife... who just bought a board with very similar graphics because (in her words) "it has beautiful women on it". so... um... yes. I'm not trying to go into the snowboard business again. if you don't like it thats fine. Its a one time offer for those who do.
  6. I've had a few people here and there ask me about making one of these for them as well as myself, so I'm just tossing this out there... If about 10 people want boards I'll pony up and make a mould. Figure about $500 a board. One size of course as it would be a mould. 155cm, 31.175cm nose, 27.2cm waist, 30.4cm tail, 6mm camber, 31cm nose rocker with 8.4cm total nose kick, 12cm tail rocker, with 1.94cm tail kick. Sandwhich construction, longitudinally medium flex with medium to high torsional flex. Rear inserts (rear most insert) 40cm from tail tip. front inserts (back most insert) 89cm from tail tip. 5 rows of inserts, 2cm spacing. For those wondering, I used to make Riot snowboards (Race, carving and freestyle back in the late 1990's and early 2000's) so I know whats up. I'm NOT getting back into the snowboard business (I have other stuff to do) but since I got some private messages on Facebook about this, I'm just letting people know. This is a one time thing, and board would be as is. Cost about $500 a board would pretty much cover my costs for mould and each board. Let me know at corran@soulwaterman.com for those interested. Moss

No worries jack (FYI - I use it as a soft boot carving board, not a powder board - just happened to have powder yesterday)
  9. And while I'm at it, I'll make myself one too ;-) Something you can't buy in a shop...

    Moss

Well I assumed so you could have the release edge without rocker. But have rocker when you need it. Not entirely sure yet if it does more than look awesome lol... Yesterday das a foot of fresh powder. It was odd at first aver I felt like I was constantly about to go over the bars, which defeats the point of the shape but figured out that it was just sticky snow as everyone was going ass over tea kettle. I narrowed my stance an inch and centered them on the inserts and that made a big difference. Is still weird feeling but I'm enjoying the challenge of figuring out a new board i can't just jump on and drive.
  11. I've actually updated the design a little... much better now.
  12. either that or social services is going to come knocking...
  13. As a fun project I've been working on building my kid a small "set back" stance board - it's not really for powder as we don't really get much, but given how the one I chopped up for him worked, it makes sense to design and make him a real one. This one is 105cm with a 22cm nose and 205 waist... and of course rad transformer graphics ;-) He's 4 and weighs about 38lbs Corran

    Moss

I got there quite by chance on my own - was struggeling to get it dialed in and then ended up centered on their insert pattern, and also 1" narrower than what I usually ride and it solved it.

    Moss

So I took out the Moss Wing Swallow for the first time today. As a starting point I set up the bindings the same was as my modified O'Sin. Hooo boy is it different. At first I thought it rode remarkably like my 1993 Sims Kidwell. First run... I didn't love it. I was really bummed... 4-5 runs later I was really getting into it and by the end of the day, I was stoked. I can push my O'Sin a lot harder on the groomer, and especially when hitting ice, and it's a more stable predictable ride. But I can really whip the Moss around, and in mixed terrain, especially as soon as there is even a couple of inches of fluff, it's amazing. I've moved both bindings forward an inch for tomorrow, and given the snow we have falling, should get some good snow conditions tomorrow.
  16. ankle deep powder is a dream where I live. Never mind waist deep... as much as I love hard boots, I just found OI prefer softer boots for riding surf style. But thats personal of course.
  17. Obviously if you're preferring hard boots then the whole step on is moot. For 25 years every year I'd jump on a soft boot system, hate it and be back on my race board. It didn't matter how stiff the soft boots were, they were not stiff enough. If I wanted (or needed) something "easier" than my race board I just skied. Only when the surfing boards arrived did my interest peak up, and then I've found I actually don't want super stiff boards - I want to push the board around under me like I'm standing barefoot on a surfboard and have gravitated towards softer soft boots. You definitely give up carving and edge hold - no doubt, but what i gain in being able to "surf" through bump runs, across mixed crud, do slashing lip turns on the slope edges and basically... well, surf down the mountain... was worth the sacrifice in pure carve. If I want to carve, I'll take my race board.
  18. I just found the ion to stiff composted to my broken in driver x for a surf shape board. Comfortable boot...
  19. I've got some driver x. Bought some ions yesterday. They were much stiffer too stiff. I took them back (my race boots are the stiffer you'l eeen ffnd bbt iI want more flex for riding a surf shape) So I suppose it depends on the boot year.
  20. Sorry I meant Ion which is actually really As stiff in my opinion

  22. yup lower- on the base plate, but out of the way no shit. 30 deg...? really?
  23. Not as much as 2cm - more like 7-8mm. But a smaller boot and binding probably has less potential for movement. 2mm is too much... never mind 8mm. Essentially larger boots will have the toe wedge further back from the toe in order to fit into the same U reciever on the base plate. The closer to the toe, the less movement up and down the boot will have. So bigger feet = more movement.
  24. Working on that. First zero. Foot ed ccmpression
  25. Zero movement of the boot. Totally solid
