  1. Barryj,

definetely go for the XL even if you are on the crossover range between L and XL.

The biggest difference between last years and this years NX2-GT is the strap has a completely different material.

Hard to see in these pics, but here is a reference.

Also you can see that my highbacks are swapped as mentioned above by Slopetool and PSR. Another added benefit of this is a little more material to grab when pulling your back foot high back up.

    cheers,

    sandy

  2. Erazz,

I am a huge fan of the fusion straps and went for them as I had heard many similar cons to what you experienced.

here are my two primary setups for this winter.

at first look everything appears the same, but they are completely different setups:

first is a rockered tanker with hard .5 cm bushing Apex Gecko Stealth risers.

second is a prototype rocker-camber-rocker tanker with medium 1.0 cm bushing Apex Gecko Stealth risers.

hope to get somewhere to go ride soon...pray for snow and remember that size matters, go big because speed is your friend ???❄️️

  3. I have used the Dakine padded ski bags for many years with no issues transporting three to four boards on most flights in a single bag. You can expect to pay between $80-$200 U.S. Depending on sales and what options you want the bag to have.

The sport tubes are awesome and I have one as well, but for most of my plane travel I use a dakine bag.

  4. So my Geckos arrived and I mounted them on my narrowest tanker and thought I would share my initial thoughts and some photos.

First off, the plates are simple and impressive right out of the box, very simple to mount and feel very well connected (when floor surfing ?)!

The hard delrin bumpers are Very Hard and it will be interesting to compare the ride between them and the medium bumpers as they are significantly different.

I decided not to take measurements and will let the pics speak for themselves.

  5. Rob,

That is a great write up and explanation.

    Pics look great ?.

I find that I like usually like the hard and more connected feel, so it will be interesting to try my setup with both the soft and hard delrin bumpers.

I have spoken to Henry at Apex in the past about binding setups for Freeriding and boarder cross right before the geckos were released and he was very happy to share thoughts and suggestions for making a better ride setup tailored to different riders styles and preferences.

I cannot wait to get my geckos and get out on the snow ❄️ with them as that is what really matters most.

Thanks for sharing the measurements as I think 20 degrees is a huge jump and should make the geckos well worth the price for that alone. The ability to customize the dampening effects is a bonus.

I will post pics of my setup once the plates arrive.

    cheers,

    sandy

  6. Rob,

Here are some pics...while it looks like there would be a lot of play, I was able to strap down very tight and have almost no movement within the bindings.

I was was also able to pretty much just push the locking mechanism open and step out with no catches as well as step in and lock without having to adjust the bindings every time.

    cheers,

    sandy

  7. Rob,

I have size 10.5-11 (depending on company) boots and went for the XL NX2-GTs.

I found that they actually fit very well and I have no slop when riding and a little more wiggle room when getting out of and into the bindings.

I was using size 11 D.C. T-Rice boots and they seemed to work fine with last years NX2s. About mid-season I switched to size 10 Burton Driver X boots that were a full size smaller and way less volume than the DCs. It was a tremendous difference in that the driver x has a lot more of a side to side gap with the binding foot rails, but I didn't notice any negative play when I set up the bindings to fit the boots for the last half of my season.

So short answer in a long reply, I think that, for me, the XLs are a better fit as I am not a fan of having only a small amount of tolerance to play around with.

    cheers and hope that helps,

    sandy

  8. Slopestar, after your feedback from last year and advice on the high back swap, I have high expectations for these and so far they seem to be right at the sweet spot.

carpet surfing with them on a board right next to a board with last years NX-2 GTs showed me just how much more comfortable the new straps are;-)

Cannot wait to get them on snow!

cheers and thanks again for the feedback,

    sandy

  9. Great reports SVR!! Great content for those seeking an excellent soft boot set up on big boards!!

Personally, I am just hoping you are having a great time up North!! BIG SNOW on the way my brother!! Bryan

Things are good up here. A little warm but otherwise good spring snow and good carving conditions.

Big Snow days sound Awesome Bryan, wish I could be there to enjoy the pow with you guys.

    Cheers,

    Sandy

  10. Lordmetroland, so I think that this is a personal preference as I do not like toe caps and prefer the old school over the top toe strap on regular bindings.

I found that the fusion strap works great with no performance/response loss compared to say the straps on the Burton Diode or Now O-drives.

So for my style and comfort, the fusion strap was a perfect fit. I also saw a lot of reviews that addressed the problem of step-click-go with the hybrid straps.

So short answer in a long response is the fusion strap provides a very responsive hold on your boot, both heel and toe, and I would recommend it over the hybrid.

    Cheers,

    Sandy

  11. So had a couple more days on the NX2-GT bindings and made some modifications to my Driver X's, so I thought I would share some more info...

First, boot fit and heel hold are super important to the way these bindings feel and perform, so if you are thinking of getting Flow's, make sure that your boot setup is dialed in.

On to the bindings. Simply put, I am very impressed. After fiddling with the locking ratchets and trying different ways to adjust the fusion strap to fit my boots, I was able to narrow my process down to the following:

    1. As Slopestar mentioned, definitely switch the highbacks from left to right as you can get a lot more response out of them by doing so.

    2. Completely agree with Lordmetroland and Slopestar that the carbon in the highback is a joke, but I wanted the metal heel piece on the highbacks for less flex, so there really is no other choice for me than the NX2-GT.

    3. For setting up the fusion strap perfectly everytime, I found that leaving the highback up in the locked position and entering the binding like a traditional binding and setting the strap to my comfort zone actually was perfect for the single click and go rear entry use as the active strap loosened just enough to for me to consistently get in and out of the binding much quicker than a traditional binding when unlocking the active strap, even in varying snow conditions from spring corn, cascade concrate and some powder.

I also tried the bindings on both a cambered tanker and a rockered tanker and my next adjustment that I made that works for both boards was to max out the forward lean on both my front foot and rear.

My next test will be using the Bomber Power Plates with the NX2-GTs and hopefully getting a pair of the Apex Gecko Stealth plates to test.

    cheers,

    sandy
