Deeluxe Track 225 Burton Race Plate Burton Smalls 136 33/30 65 lbs 9 year old 53" or so according to him the board is too soft and too short even though he barely gets to the burton spec weight range Now he wants a Coiler like all the big kids on his team I would recommend this method of starting plate riding for any young racer as it was a seamless transition to higher angles and more powerful turns Still too small for my 161 Prior i think so i will let him enjoy his pseudo set up until i can find a more suitable board

Got a longish softboard (136) for my nine year old (65 lbs) and put my old burton race plates on and a friend lent me his sons boots. Put angles around 30 to get boot to edge. He seems to enjoy it and carving a bit but not any better than his softboots. Would this qualify as good training or idiot parenting? Whats your vote?

I know it's tough to find small boards but I need two of them! TWINS As small and as narrow as possible

Am I screwed - will post pics as soon as I can. A small but growing crack is appearing between the base and the board - not a delam of the top sheet but a separation between board and base.

Teaching beginners or even intermediate riders at h/b angles is just wrong. You can not show them what proper alignment is. You are doing nothing for your students. jack is right - the sport is still called snowboarding as far as I am concerned

Thanks for the input everyone! I am going to heed Jack's always trusted advice and avoid the rocker at all costs.

125 cm 6.0 m SCR 230 mm WW I agree its about having fun and would love to give him options - but realistically I have to choose one board for him. My choice is the 2008 model which has maybe 1 cm of camber, or 2011 v rocker which is like reverse camber i guess lets take a vote - first board to two votes takes it

My little carver is now ready to upgrade but he still at least 50 lbs away from plates. The kids boards are now made with the V Rocker as opposed to the camber. My guy rides fairly aggressively, likes gates and tries to link carved turns. Will the V Rocker take away the snap that all of us feel on our boards. Should I look for an old school (which is now 2008) camber board, or should i go with the new technology. It is truly sad that I can't find a kids board that doesn't have "park & pipe" in the first sentence of the product description.

I have the Le mans - they are great - nice and flexible - I have used the stock liner for about three years (100 snow days or so) and they now need replacing but they will certainly last quite along time, and I found them to be very comfortable, fit well and warm. I am about the same height and weight as you.

Zoltan - sorry to hear about and see the effects of that accident. I sometimes ride in powder mode on my back foot only. Not for safety but only for a little comfort and more relaxed feeling. I wonder if the front foot/ankle/leg is more vulnerable? In any event, I think I will heed your warning and not ride in powder mode again.

Any reason to own a softdeck east of the Rocky Mountains? Its only collecting dust. I have absolutely no interest - took it out once in about 5 years (and I mean once - 700 ft of vertical and then back into storage). If I am not carving, I prefer skiing. At least I skied one day earlier this year, when carving conditions were poor. I ride the escarpment in Collingwood. As soon as my kids are old enough to travel west I think I would bring the Prior and skis. What say ye? Should I send the noodle off to ebay or should I consider taking out the soft gear and trying to ride different styles, switch pipe park hits (small hits )norm blah blah blah.... I can understand that pros need soft but the rest of us...I don't think so

Didn't start riding on the escarpment until very late in December but since then the snow has been nonstop, perfect conditions and the base is now approaching 2m. A few weeks ago I had a morning with 6" fresh on top of groomed. :D Too bad it was -15. Temperatures now starting to moderate. As long as we don't get hammered by the freezing rain on its way from the Colorado Low I am pretty sure we are good until Easter Monday.

I have improved my gate riding substantially by backing down to about 55/51 but if I am only trying to carve it feels too shallow

I had to give up the Wisdom Iridium in the flat light. The persimmon lens is decent enough in flat light and perfect for variable conditions, but not as bright as the high intensity yellow.
