Just rode one last week. In fact it's for sale if you're interested. My impression is that it's an awesome carver. It wasn't right for what I was looking for because of it's length - about a 170 to 172. I use my boarderX boards as my all-mountain free-carve/powder/bump riding boards. Having snapped my VolklCross in two a few weeks back, I was looking for a replacement.
The Virus carved on rails in the groomers but I did not like they way it rode in the bumps - both the length issue and I felt unable to get the nose around in the fashion that I liked. The board felt tail heavy with the bindings moved all the way forward. I was told that it was me not the board that caused the feeling but what can I say - it's how it rode to me.
You may be able to demo (with deposit) if interested. Give me a shout and I'll hook you up with the owner.

Warren miller Films has donated 7 DVD's to aid the "Bomber needs your help" cause.
With that said - they've given me seven DVD's with proceeds going to the Bomber cause. I spoke with Fin and Michelle and with their permission, these are for sale here for $25.00 per DVD. Proceeds going directly to Bomber - my liitle way of helping raise money for their legal fund. Yes you can buy them for a few dollars less online but this is a fund-raiser for Bomber and includes shipping costs.
Anyone interested can send a check - made out to Bomber, and I'll send you one of their DVD's. There's 7 to choose from including two "behind the scenes" promo DVDs.
The seven films are:
Steeper and Deeper
Ski a la Carte
Endless Winter
Journey
These four are a collector boxed set - Let me know if you want the set
Behind the ski - promo DVD
All Access - Promo DVD
Impact
Email me or reply to this post if interested and I'll send you my mailing address and you can send me your address for shipping. Again, make payment by check to Bomber (I'll pay postage). Remember - it's going to a good cause even if they won't put hardbooters in their films. Consider this your late X-mas/Chanukah gift to yourself.

Not to name drop but I've been friends with the WM Gang for years (my wife -now ex-wife) worked for them. I've tried every season to get them to include some alpine/extreme carve footage ( I guess my carves aren't to their liking ). In lieu of footage, I have gotten them to donate 7 DVD's to aid the "Bomber needs your help" cause.

Since people are looking at RT 168's here, I have a brand new one for sale - All black topsheet - from two or three seasons ago. Never ridden - selling for $250 plus shipping - email me if interested at cfj04@aol.com
I do own one of the earlier yellow ones and yes they are a tad softer than the newer boards. The newer ones have the topsheet with some indentations running the length of the tip and tail. The newer ones are snappier and yes they hold their camber for a good length of riding time. My 163 sl has been ridden four seasons (including in bumps) and still has plenty of snap

Hugh,
You're welcome - enjoy

They'll fit with room to spare - my measurement is 6 3/4 inches with both heel and toe moved all the way in
I sent you an email stating 7 1/4 inches - disregard that email. I hadn't moved the front all the way in.
-
I am 99% certain that they will fit that size. They are currently set up for a Mondo 26 boot and have plenty of movement left to reduce the size (look at the picture to see rear heel movement available. If you want to send me the measurements, I can make certain that they'll fit
-
Titaniums - I use them for all of my boards. They've held up very well. I use the 5mm bails for the front (have the flappy bail) and use the fixed bails in the rear
-
I use f2 bindings and these aren't getting used - so - off to the wild blue bomber yonder.
Absolutley no complaints about them - just holding me up from purchasing my Virus BX board
:)
-
The widest point is 145MM. The photo has the front set at 54 degrees which is why their is a tad of overlap in the photo and it's mounted on a narrow Oxygen proton 149 as well
Hope that helps

I'm a big RT fan. I weigh 200 lbs and have not had any trouble with any of the RT's - 163, 168 or 173. I've ridden them all and they hold up well under my weight.
Since this is the classified section not the forum, I do need to reply that I have a unridden RT 168 for sale if you are interested. It is the all black model which I believe is from two seasons ago.

I have two sets of X-Bone Carbon Fiber bindings for sale. 4 hole set-up but 3 hole available. Both in very good condition. $110.00 per set plus $10.00 shipping. Also available are two sets of 2nd boards kits for $15.00 each - one 4 hole and one three hole. Both sets include Rear heel lifts and cant kits
One pair is red (see photo) and the second set is blue
Blue Set is sold - Red Set still available

Have you looked into any Volkl Boards? If it's of interest, I have a new Renntiger 168 that would likely get you through the crowds in an easier fashion. Similar sidecut to you Axis but because of it's shorter length and narrower waist, it will make tighter/quicker turns and still maintain good edge hold for icy days
-
Thanks for the opinion - sounds like what I was hoping for and yes- it is softer than the Cross
Ditto on the cost which is why it's in the quiver this year.

Are you trying to carve on steeps and bumps? My style tends to transition more to jump turns as the pitch begins to get steeper, especially if I'm on a stiffer board.
If I'm needing to scrub speed and getting the board more than 45 degrees off line, it seems virtually impossible to transition without some added hip rotation. If you aren't familiar with this method, practice on carpet always rotating the reat leg wth your pivot point centered on your front. I'm certain someone has written about this as a steep run alternative (or the my gosh that tree is close bail out move ;) )
FYI - run 62/54 goofy

Skategoat,
Curious about your feedback on the Volkl Spline. I just bought one on a whim but haven't ridden it yet. I also have A Volkl Cross 168 which has been great to rip on - any comparison?
