  1. The Custom went for her maiden voyage today. Immediately, I noticed how quiet and smooth the board felt. Very easy to hook into a turn, not so easy to get out of it. I felt very locked in. A little bit disconcerting at times, especially when near the trees. I was warned about this feeling with metal boards. It's going to take a few days for me to feel totally comfortable on the this board. Later in the afternoon, I switched to my Volkl RT and felt a big difference. The nose of the Volkl was really slapping in the chop and I could really feel the chatter in my feet. Also the sound of the two boards is so different. The Volkl almost sounds hollow whereas the Coiler just didn't make a lot of noise at all.
  2. kjl: Where did you use Maya? I used to work for Alias (Alias Wavefront in those days) and made a ton of customer visits to California. Henry
  3. The topsheet actually looks cooler in person, IMO. There are rivets and other detail that doesn't show up in the photo. It could also be the best performing craft in the entire RCAF. Not the best photo of Bruce, sorry about that. He does look a little tipsy but the hardest stuff I've seen him hit is Coors Light. Board gets it's debut tomorrow. I'll let you know how she rides.
  4. Hard for me to say, I have only ridden the board twice. It is reasonably soft but it's rather wide and not meant for GS. It might be a good board to get started on but you'll probably want something longer, narrower and stiffer as you get to be a better racer.
  5. Look what he brought me this morning. It's a 173 FreeCarve with metal. Custom topsheet. I call it the "Coiler MLC Custom" Merry Christmas everyone.
  6. Ontario WSIB (Workplace Safety Insurance Board) is running a series of commercials that absolutely scare the sh*t out of me. Talk about an effective message:
  7. Also consider a Volkl Cross or the slightly softer Volkl Spline. Close to your width requirement at 25cm. My Spline is my go-to board for spring slush and mashed potatoes.
  8. I'm pretty sure I ride with that hunched over style. When I try to ride more upright, I can't seem to really hook into a turn. It seems that the board is riding me instead of me telling the board where to go. This leads to big turns and excessive speed. When I bend forward, I feel like I can initiate a turn and control the radius of my turns a lot easier. It is, however, quite tiring.
  9. Your only other hopes are Corbett's in Oakville and Squire Johns in Collingwood. I would discourage you from buying used. You just never know how they have been treated and those little steel pins are the only thing keeping you attached to your board.
  10. Correction on the Horseshoe tickets. $24.99 for junior/senior tickets, $34.99 for adult. Regular rate is $32.00/$47.00.
  11. Bindings are sold. Board is sold pending payment.
  12. I have a pair of these and have had no problems with them. Mine have oval washers that go into the screw holes. Perhaps the washers are there to distribute pressure and prevent cracking.
  13. Costco now carries those boot dryers that Canadian Tire sells under the Noma brand. Brand is different but dryer is identical. $29.99 which is a lot cheaper than CT. I also saw Horseshoe Valley lift tickets for $24.99 although I am told this was a mistake and they are actually $29.99. Not bad still.
  14. Looks like this thread has morphed from annoying spelling to annoying behaviour Okay, this one kills me - I go to the gym and people circle the lot and sometimes wait for a close spot. This so they don't have to walk too far to get to their workout.
  15. I skid out and hit the snow about 4-5 times a day. I wouldn't even call them falls - more like miscues. On hard snow though, it can hurt. About twice a season, I really eat it. Last season, I augered into soft snow and broke my board and goggles. At 45, almost 46, I'm not sure how many more of those sort of falls I can take. Anyone else absolutely hate skidding a snowboard? I don't mind making carve/skid turns on skis but on a snowboard, I can't stand it. Which is why, when I'm not able to really crank a turn, I'm just going to hang 'em up.
  16. Gord, I'm going to pass on it since I think I can make them myself out of lexan (since they are flat and not wedges).
  17. Gord: I'm interested in the Burton lifters. What exactly do they look like? I've never seen them. Are they stock Burton or were they custom made? How many and how thick? Do they offer cant and lift? Ideally, I'm looking for something for the front toe that will lift and cant inward. Thanks, HK
  18. I saw a documentary a few years back that profiled a few ski bums trying to survive in Whistler. One of them had a legit job cleaning carpets. Another (a snowboarder) was a cage dancer. The third had no job at all. They showed how he nourished himself - on table scraps. He stood around the chalet dining area looking for unfinished meals. He had some well-thought-out strategies for bagging the best meals. One of them was to scope out families with young kids because the kids never finished their meals. He appeared to be well fed.
  19. I have a set of Limited junior bindings. Tell me where to send them. I'll throw in some mitts too. Also, anyone who wants to help out with this kind of thing, check out Burton's Chill program. My son and I helped out a couple of seasons ago and it was a blast. Some of the kids could really rip by the end of the program. http://www.burton.com/Chill/Default.aspx
  20. EDIT: Chopped prices to get these out of the basement. Where are all the people who wanted a cheap starter kit?. This stuff is in excellent shape. Starter gear especially if you want a wide SL board. Photos at bottom of post. Rossignol Accelerator 159 159 cm length 21 mm waist $60.00 It's at least 10 years old but it has been living in a dry, dark basement and has been ridden only a couple of times. The board looks almost new with only a few light sratches in the clear sheet. Base and edges are near perfect. I think price is fair given the condition but shoot me an offer if you feel otherwise. Oxygen O1 bindings $40.00 These are solid bindings with adjustable canting plates on both bindings. The toe clip has a nice design in that it locks into the bail rather than depending on the pressure from your boot to hold it. The red ring you see is a spacer that will help protect your board. Excellent condition with only some light scratches on the centre disc from scraping off ice with a ski pole. Used about four times in the last 5 years. I have 27.5 boots and there is plenty of room to go bigger. It will not adjust down to a 24mp (I know, I tried with my daughter's boots). Shipping is extra. edit: Model name of board corrected - thanks Chris.

I got on it then my 14 year old insisted I delete my account. He said it was "creepy" for his dad to be on Facebook. But I recently reinstated without telling him. I guess he won't be answering my friend request.
