  1. Ditto! That was funny and unexpected. It's also a great example of a super-weird incident that could likely have been avoided if the rider had glanced uphill now and then on a toe-side turn. Look around, and be aware of traffic behind you too!
  2. Cool! Sounds fun :-) I'm headed to Gore mountain with my friend Becca for Fri/Sat; curious to see what it's like!
  3. ^ That's a new one! Good job, pro :-)
  4. Not really! My back leg got a little splashed from the knee down, but that was it. The majority of the crowd has learned how not to get sprayed - watch from the deck 50' uphill! They weren't shown in the video, but about 200 people were watching from a safe distance :-P
  5. Thanks Mark! Maybe I should post the first run too, I came in so hot I actually speed checked on the water before popping onto the snow :-P So fun!
  6. The hill I grew up on does a Spring Splash event every year, and here's a clip of some genuine snowboard surfing :P About half of the people attempting the puddle jump made it across, and there were some spectacular bails! Enjoy!
  7. Shims could work, but they should probably be flat shims between the baseplate and the toe or heel blocks. I have the knowledge and skills to make shims, I'd just be willing to pay for a more finished solution that leaves my toe and heel blocks aligned with each other rather than vertically offset. The TD3 is a strong, clean binding, and I'd like to keep it that way :)
  8. Just curious, is there much interest out there for a 4.5 deg cant disk for the TD3's? It feels like a big step between 3 and 6. Maybe we can convince Fin to make a few? :D :D :D Cheers, Ian
  9. ^ Aw... I'll probably pass as I'm getting up early on Tuesday to ride MSM with some co-workers. Good idea though, Phil! Ryan and I will be at MSM tomorrow also, if anyone wants to join! Cheers :)
  10. I've got a fair number of days on my new Nirvana, so it's time I contributed to this thread! This is the most enjoyable carving stick I've ever owned, so I'm going to speak quite highly of it. The specs are: 176cm length, 20cm waist, 14-12m SCR, 16mm taper, high-camber 'energy' variant, perfect custom stiffness as usual. The general vibe of this board is fun. I second Mike T's descriptors "lively", "playful", and "flirty". While it still rides with the quiet dampness you expect from a metal board, the Energy variant has just the right amount of life to it. Air transitions are easy to achieve, but are smooth and controlled. The feedback from the board about the rebound is very good; I am rarely surprised when the board airs, and the majority of the time when it's not launching, I find it easy to harness the rebound energy for fast edge transitions on narrow trails. Between the rebound and the variable sidecut, the board has incredible agility and turn size versatility. Compared to my previous Stubby, which I asked Bruce to make stable and controllable, this board is a bit of a hot rod. I asked for something with more "gas pedal" this time, and this has it. All of the best characteristics from my previous Stubby and Factory Prime are in here; controllable dampness, grip, and mid-flex from the Stubby, and the playful energy (but smoother) from the FP. I asked Bruce to build this for my weight on perfect middle-of-the-road hero snow, and find that I can ride anything from glare ice to soft groom and crud with the right technique. No significant limitations from the board in terms of conditions. The greatest strengths of this board are its ridiculous edge grip, playful energy, agility, and excellent feedback. The only negative I've noticed is that this high-camber version is more difficult to feather from sliding to carving turns and vice versa. While I do miss that, it's worth giving up for all of the other benefits, especially considering that it's fairly rare that I am sliding turns. Bruce said that the other two lower-camber versions have less of this trait, but also slightly less edge grip if I remember correctly. While it's great to talk specifics about different Coiler models, keep in mind that Bruce is able to tailor a board to suit your exact needs. Really, the most impressive thing to me about this Nirvana is that he nailed - for the second time - exactly what I asked him to build for me. Out of all the boards I've ridden, there is still something special about the Coiler feel, and how the board lets me know exactly what's up all the time without being too bossy :P Here's a quick clip of me riding it on Jet at Jay Peak. The narrowness of the run at the top demands tight turns and quick transitions, and the board helps with both of those. Remember this is 12/14m SCR. Cheers, Ian M
  11. What a day! Jay Peak hooked us up with some amazing cord this morning, and we ripped some of the steeper runs (Can Am and The Jet) for two hours XD. Visibility was up and down, but the side of the mountain with the steep goods had the clearest air. Angel's Wiggle was another favorite; a nice twisty gentle run. There's a lot of fun terrain there, and we're looking forward to hitting Jay again, probably Thursday. Tomorrow and Wednesday will definitely be Owl's Head, for their bargain $20 tickets. Local Québec riders, we'll be on snow at Owl's Head around 8:45am (lifts open at 8:30), so meet us around that time at the main lodge ski racks or give me a call if you miss us. Cheers!
  12. Hi All! Day one on the hill was a bit of hard work... some fresh snow on top of the groom. Cooler temperatures tomorrow and fresh grooming should bring us good cord :) The plan so far is Jay Peak tomorrow (Monday), and Owl's Head Tuesday/Wednesday for $20 tickets. Because Jay's weather is a bit cooler and temperatures are near zero here, we may look at Jay for more days later in the week. We've found a local sports store that sells Jay tickets for about $50 including tax. Cheers :)
  13. That means you didn't even make it to page 2 of the thread! We're riding Sunday, Feb 24 - Friday, March 1 at Owl's Head, QC. We plan on one or two days across the border at Jay Peak also. If you're interested in meeting up with us, check this thread for which hill we'll be at, or text me at the number listed in my post from four days ago. Cheers, Ian
  14. ^ Hi Stephane, glad you're going to come out! We have a short-term visitor, Dingbat, who'll be with us Monday and Tuesday evenings. Can you crash on a couch Tuesday night and then enjoy a bed on Wednesday? Cheers, Ian :)
  15. Update - there are now two spaces available! One would suit a single female very well, as the bedroom would be be shared with Tabatha. The other is a single bed in one of the guy's rooms. This chalet looks pretty sweet, and the prices are as follows: We're currently at ten people, so if you're: - the eleventh person, you and the group all pay $270 for all six nights of accommodation including tax - the twelfth person, you and the group all pay $250 for all six nights of accommodation including tax - looking to join us for just a few nights we'll offer a nightly rate of $40 (advance notice please) Cheers, Ian :)
  16. Hi all! We're getting close, so it's definitely time for an update. We've had a few people cancel from the chalet over the last week, due to those pesky uncontrollable life events. This means a bit of a change for the lodging arrangements. With such a short time to the trip and no one approaching us to put down deposits to fill the remaining 6 spaces, we have chosen to cancel the guest house. The main chalet is now full, although two people may be convinced to pass along their spaces to someone else. If you're keen, let us know asap. If further cancellations happen, we'll post right away to let everyone know about the opportunity for a 6-day space. A few people have asked about staying for just a few nights, and this is possible. We only have couch/floor crash space at this point, and the property owners have to be notified in advance, so this needs to be arranged before the event. Please post here or send me a PM. For those people planning to day-trip, please check this thread for updates about whether we're riding at Owl's Head or Jay Peak on a given day. We'll try to make timely decisions and postings so that you can pack/drive accordingly! I believe the current plans include Monday at Jay, and Tues/Wed at Owl's Head. The rest is 'to be determined'! You can call or text me for real-time info at phone number six 1 three - 3 two 2 - three 2 five 0. We're all looking forward to this trip; it should be great riding with great friends! Cheers, Ian :)
