  1. With all the fun you kids are having, it might seem like I picked the wrong time to bail. But don't worry, we drove all night to catch the powder at the 'Ghee today. Sorry I missed out on some good times, but what can I say, I am the Crackaddict after all, and I needed a fix.

We climbed desert sandstone cracks for three straight days, everything from incipient fingertip laybacks in Indian Creek to a squeeze chimney on Jah Man, a classic tower route in the Castle Valley.

Here are a couple of photos from yesterday's ascent of Sister Superior. (H. Coco wouldn't let me post the pictures of her bloody hands.) The tower over our heads is the one we climbed, the phallus in the distance is the famous Castleton Tower (remember that Jeep ad from the 80's?).

Kelly: tomorrow promises to be another Monster day. Come up and redeem that lift ticket any time before we head south again on April 1st.

Hope to see you all again before the season's out!

  2. Yeah guys, way hardpack at the 'Ghee this morning.

Carvable for sure, but sharpen your edges and bring the small board 'cause, unless you're Dredman, it's gonna feel a bit scary. Unforgiving, one might say. Don't get me wrong, there are still plenty of fun turns to be had out there, but after a whole season of hero corduroy, my standards are a little higher than usual.

It would likely have warmed up and softened a bit this afternoon too, but we didn't stick around to find out. We're packed and off to Utah for a quick desert tower climbing mission. Back when it starts snowing again...

Kelly, we'll have to give you a rain check on that lift ticket. Sorry. The rest of you kids have fun on the pond!

  3. Thanks for the boots Kelly! They fit Colleen real well; they're comfy and way easier to get into the race plates. We'll buy you a lift ticket for sure when you get back.

Anybody coming up this weekend? The conditions were quite mixed yesterday. Joe's and the ridge were great, but the arrowhead and the steamvent were too hard for me. There were still a few inches sitting on top of the hardpack waiting to be groomed into Floyd's and some other runs too. Maybe they'll be soft tomorrow. The headwall was groomed again. No ice balls (death cookies) or brown spots to speak of, but it might warm up today. To be honest, we could use a bit more snow (did I just say that?), but some runs are still in very good shape.

Today we're going climbing at the Enclosure in Jackson, tomorrow we'll be at the DC at 0900 as usual. You Daves are both welcome to our spare room anytime.

    Hope to see you all.

  4. Hey Gang,

Well, that long cycle of perfect corduroy is officially over. Though it was awesome I can't honestly say I'm sorry it's snowing again, I need the rest.

Now, if I had my very own extra stiff NSR I might feel totally thwarted by the weather. Every run I've made since handing that stick back over to Dave has been at least a little disappointing. It's like "what? I have to absorb those bumps with my legs now?". I just want fast and stable again, now that I've had a taste...

Today I put Colleen (a.k.a. Hot Coco) on that FP 157 we were gonna sell. She as determined as ever, if a little inflexible; the hardest part for her was getting into and out of the race plates. Looks like we're keeping that setup.

(For the record, it's only on Bomber - and in certain parts of Detroit - that we're collectively known as Crackaddict and Hot Coco. But that's a long story from way back in my pimpin' days...)

Hope to see you all again this weekend. It's always a blast when we get so many metal coilers together.

    James

  5. Hey Guys (and Kelly),

Anyone coming up to Targhee this weekend? Yesterday the corduroy was as smooth and firm as I've ever seen it here. It just keeps getting better and I've been telling myself all week that I'll 'rest tomorrow'. Of course, every morning the report reads 'zero inches' and I can see the corduroy from the balcony here so it never happens. Everyday I'm convinced that it's the last good corduroy for a while so I have to wreck it (and my body) before I can go home to the hot tub. Anyway, today I'm on the couch licking my wounds, tomorrow I'm on the monster. Who's in?

My hand is feeling better and my mojo is full again and back in my pocket (know what I mean Dave?). I've been way overtightening my boots and riding smoother than ever.

Hope to see you all. It's always way funner to ride with a crew, especially you guys. Last weekend was a blast, sorry I had to duck out early but I had valentine's day responsibilities...

  6. I'm riding tomorrow for sure! Clear skies right now - I can see the grooming machines from my balcony. Pray for zero inches and hope that it won't be as busy as it was today: ten minute waits for the dreamcatcher by 10am and a longer line at the ticket window.

Look out for me. I'll be the guy with the brand new shiny step-in TD3s and a hot date for Valentine's day.

  7. Hi Borzy,

While I would love to sell that board to you, it's a bit big for a beginner. Great board, but not for learning. Still, I understand why you want a Coiler and I will sell, but be warned.

I am the same weight and both the Burtons ride great for me. Maybe the 157cm I have will be easier to learn on. I also have bindings to match: Burton Race Plates in very good condition. How about $300 for the complete setup with some spare bindings parts included, I'll pay shipping to lower 48.

Email me your phone number and I will call this afternoon. Right now it's snowing up at Grand Targhee and I have to go...

  8. Hello ,

would you be willing to sell a pair of 4-hole discs, and a pair of heel bails?

    Hey Dad,

As you can see in the photo, four-hole discs are no problem. The extra heel bails are not so springy though, that's why I replaced them. You're welcome to them, but know that they're worn; the springy ones are being sold with the bindings. Make me an offer.

    James

  9. Coiler PRIIW 184 02 68-6.2, 14.2m scr, 19mm waist . Soft flex for easy turns. Well used but no real base or edge damage. Good condition, very fun to ride. Big board.

Burton Factory Prime 167, 12.29m scr, 19mm waist. Stiffer but just as fun. Better condition with fewer days ridden.

Burton Factory Prime 157, 9.59m scr, 18mm waist. Small board for lighter riders or beginners, or for making tight turns on crowded slopes. Also in good condition with no real damage. Ridden maybe only 20 days.

    $200 each OBO.

Race Plates available too, $120 per set in very good shape with new heel bales and spare parts too.

Metal Coilers not for sale. Ever. References available upon request.

  11. Thanks for posting those turns Man. It's interesting to see myself from an outside perspective and get some video feedback. Gotta say though, the footage doesn't do it justice; that is, it feels way cooler to ride the monster than it looks on youtube. I guess that's just how it should be.

    :lurk:

    See you next weekend.
