  1. Somehow I become snowboard instructor in Windham (small but nice mountain in Catskill in NY), don’t ask me how it was kind of random but it does not matter.<O:p

Looks like I will start with beginners (soft boots, skidding turns ect) but my real goal is to teach carving. <O:p</O:p

I think I can carve well at this point but teaching is another story and I need to prepare myself.<O:p

Does anybody have any experience with carving teaching? I would love to hear about your tricks, drills exercises.<O:p

I would be also very helpful if you can send me a links to any related web materials. <O:p

    <O:p

I feel this could be a good proactive step to make carving style more popular and share my experience with others. <O:p

  2. Hi

I will be going a lot to windham i am teaching snowboard beginers and advance/carving this seson. I am accualy going next saturday but i need to be back in brooklyn sat night. I might be going on sun as well but probably not too early. Plus i will be going a lot this seson so lets talk, call me 917 3316615 so we can talk details.

I went this weekend and it conditions where ok

  3. Hi i am looking to come on saturday insted of sun, not quite sure yet but likely.

We will goof around on slushy flats and have few beers, why not winter is almost over. I would get there between 8 and 9, Is the phone you posted, your cell? are you going to have it with you?

  4. I am not sure if i will go i let you know later. for mount snow i would bring something bigger, wider, big SCR and good waxing for slush anl lack of steepnes.

It has fairly open trails as well.

To be honest i am not sure how much slush it is going to be temps are in mid 40s

If i go i would go on sworld 175 or tanker 172 (maybe rein tiger 163 if it is icy)

  5. Mount Snow right ? I am not going to K this weekend but i am considering M snow trip on sunday (are you still going to be on the slope on sunday ?)

You right for slush flat is better, steeps will turn to mogul field around 11 anyway (i have hight tolerance for carving bumps but to the certain size only)

I just learn this last weekend...

  6. Hi They call it m slow bacouse it is very difficult to find where the mountain is.

That thing is so flat that from the base lodge you accualy dont see the mountain. When slope is minimal you go slow, too slow to do any significant carving, on the other hand if you have 190 long deck or longer with large scr you can find good terrain there. They will have regge fest this weekend, and pond think so it can be fun.

I am going to Killington (they will have freestyle competition it could be fun to watch) weather will be nice cold in the morning (few hours of good carving possibly) and worm afternoon (beers and maybe slush in the woods)

    have fun

    P

  7. I agree Poland has great mountains, good steeps, good terain, great freeride when there is snow. But there is too many people on the narow slopes for carving, less then proper grooming (this aspect is improving), long lines to few old lifts. (a lot of T-bars)

There is a big difference between organized event and individual riding.

Anyway it is good to heare you have good time in Sudety (szrenica)

I am from Beskidy mountains (diffrent group east from sudety)

and i know winter was less then good this year (first real snow came in mid january and melted quickly)

  8. I am polish and grow up in polish mountains and i dont think they are good for carving at all, no proper trails and not enough lifts. Mountains are beatifull and food and beers are great, when i go to PL i usualy go for freeride in forest after they have a dump, locals didnt figure out the value of powder yet. But carving is not good idea. Zakopane is in tatra mountains withch are the bigest in PL but lack of proper numbere of lifts (national park issue) and get overcrovded so easy.

Snowwise last year was a blast but this year was quite bad.

  9. Strategicly i prefer more icier/boiler plate condition over soft groom becouse they will last whole day and scare a lot of people from steeps. I dont like too soft groom (powder day before) becouse my board goes too deep (lost of speed) and it tends to become mogules after 10 am.

here is my list for carving:

    Hard groom

    chalk

    ice/boiler plate

    soft groom

    slush

Her is my list for freeride

    Powder

It is difficult to compare powder to groom it is diffrent state of mind, apples to oranges dillema

I like to do bouth but on different set up, generally i try to have max fun in all condition so i dont waste time (life is short) I like varaiety like morning carve and forest freeride afternoon

As far i dont enjoy is Moguls (i am trying tho)

  10. Hi

there is a good chance i am going to be in my House near Killington. 80%

Unless it rains and it is 60 degrees.

I remember riding with you in ECES last year and i think i stayed in your house for one night.

You welcome to stay if i am going to be there (friday and sat night). It is a one hour north from M slow.

  11. I just injured myself (probably tear rotator cuff http://www.shouldersandknees.com/Struhl_rot_cuff.html ) or heavy bruised some meat inside.<O:p

Need to visit a doctor if it is not getting better

Here is a video how it happed:<O:p

    <O:p

    <O:p

This was a jump that I build few weeks ago when we had this big storm before president week.

It was working just fine and unless you hesitate on the approach you could easily clear the stream

    Few thinks happened since then:<O:p

    1) Jump has lost at least 2 feet of height when we had this meltdown last week.<O:p

    2) River got a little wider another 2 feet <O:p

    3) Snow was slower<O:p

I failed to acknowledge above factors

Now I need to carve with quiet upper body, bomber style no more EC for me, at least for this weekend.:( <O:p

Of course I need to increase a height of the jump and maybe extend approach and I will try again. <O:p

  12. Here are my expenses:

    1) share in my rental house 1200$, 20 minuts from killington (minus guest fees around 200$)

    2) gold skipass for K something over 500$

    3) food and gas around 60$ a weekend (depends if i shere the ride)

i would guess it would be around 3000$ for seson.

    (not counting any alcoholoic baverages)

I had around 33 days as far, hopping to reach 40

that would be avarage 75$ a day all together. It is not cheep in US.

I am locked in american ski company and trying not to go anywhere else (M snow,Killington,Attitash,Sugerlof, Somday river)

I did only one day trip to windham this seson.

  13. I had been riding since 95 and never had anybody hit me from above. Last year I had small collision with one skier we kind of met when I was in the middle of heel side turn, so nobody was really “higher” I guess I failed to observe my left side. I was not sure whose blame it was so I went and apologies. Guy said it mean a lot to him that I apologized.:freak3:

    <O:p

Anyway I always wait for the window in the crowd, no meter how crowded it is there is always a gap (I ski Killington so it can be crowded) <O:p</O:p

I try to avoid crowded blue runs and rather go to icier black. I go as fast as I can so even if I carve (double my way down) my fall line speed is higher then average skier.

There are less straight liners and people generally going slower on groomed black.

Still I had few close calls now and then.

I never look up when I carve I can not afford to lose focus; always look up before I start.<O:p

  14. I went to vail once and it was very pathetic and pretecius place. after spending 80 $ i was presented a little photocopy of groomed trails (very few) well i understand that thay are about powder but i was not powder day at all, only frozen slush turning into slush again. plus thay had the most cheesy "alpain" village.

I was disapointed and thinking that east cost is accualy beter.

Leater we drove to leadville witch was awsome mineing town, next time i go there i would stay in leadville and go to copper or bever creek

  15. probably not so much "morally", but I hate the crowds, and the come to party attitude. Also, I admittedly don't know killington, which is what anyone who rides there regularly says is important to enjoy the mountain, avoid crowds, and find the good terrain/conditions etc.

and On another level, I hate big business mountains...I prefer an independently owned hill...

Sorry That makes no sense M Slow and K untill recently had the same owner american ski comp. (both mountains where sold recently)

Your logic is good but does not applay in this case

Mount snow is more crowded then K for sure, it is familly mountain with easy slopes and much closer to NYC and CT (Also becouse M S is smaller lift line get much longer then on K)

Recently i went to bouth on weekday and was suprised how empty K was on thrusday and how crowded MS was on friday.

  16. I Would say definitly Killington......

It has the best terain on east cost

    second Stowe

third Loon (i never been there but i heard is even more crovded then K)

please no Mt. Snow. Too flat.

I would sugest K becouse has the best carving trail :

    Superstar

1 Fast quadruple chair right over the trail (you can watch other carvers)

2 Great meeting point and planty of room to set up demo tent

3 extra Wide interesting terain with steep on the top and bottom and more melow middle always groom

4 Easy way down for beginers (the trail that goes around)

5 Superstar pub right next to it. (with the view on superstar)

I cannot imagine better terain for ECES

Killlington has great variety of terain, has steep trails where we have oportunity to improve our skils . I strongly recomend K

  17. I'd love to hear from regular K-Mart riders about how crowded it is mid week. Killington always seems to be pretty busy during the week, since it is one of the largest resorts in NE it gets more crowded mid week compared to the other list of mountains Jack has on his list.

Kathy you ride there every week how is it mid week during the season?

    Thoughts?

I have a season pass and rid K every weekend and more.

K is not so bad on weekdays at all it is a big area so people will spread out.

I would say not much more people then ECES last yera in sugerloaf.
