  1. Only 2 pair of 26's left and 6 pair of 27's... going fast! http://johnstewart.com/boots/
  2. So with the pair of T2's I've been riding, the allen screws holding the binding to the cant plate have come loose at least once, and the screws holding the bindings to the board have been loose occasionally. This is with no locktite or anything else. I didn't want to go this route as I figured I'd be fiddling with them a lot. However, I've got them pretty much where I want for now. I've used teflon tape (the stuff you use when plumbing to prevent leaks) on other bindings with no problems. Locktite seems like a bad idea - I don't want any extra crud in there. What do others use/recommend to keep the bindings from getting loose?
  3. I'll be at Tyrol on Sunday, as will a number of other hardbooters. I'll most likely be on a Volant Excel (stainless-steel topsheet) and wearing a brown jacket. I don't know about boardercross; is there a USASA race there on Sunday? I've never ridden it, but it usually consists of a few rollers followed by a big jump, then a few banks. I'll be running the NASTAR course, which should start at around 10am. Seven bucks to run as many runs as you want (wheras it's $50 to join USASA, plus entry fee) I'll also have a cast on my left wrist - I hit a gate this past Sunday and broke some bone in there. I'm getting a cast this afternoon. Didn't stop me from racing for Monday Night Race League, though. =)
  4. Bob - all the info is up on my webpage: http://johnstewart.com/boots/ There are 3 26's left.
  5. Well, I'm on my 3rd engine on my Cherokee (at just under 200k miles). It happens. :D As for Burton step-ins, I've ridden on a well-used pair for a year and I don't like 'em, but they're not bad to start. However, I was scared of them as I started to learn to make harder carves. The TDs I just started riding feel soooo solid it's amazing. But if and when you upgrade, you can throw your crappy bindings onto a 2nd board. Also, I think you (hugo) bought some 123's from me. Yes, the Intec heels will fit on (I just put some on my 123's). You will have to do some drilling to get the hole for the cable wide enough, and pilot holes for the heel screws. My advice is to drill out the cable hole, then put the heel onto the boot before drilling the pilot holes - this way you know you've got them in the right place.
  6. FYI, I did an inventory this morning and found a pair of 29's; if you might want those, email me directly (john at johnstewart dot com)
  7. Are the TD1s standard or step-ins? thanks
  8. Are these freestyle bindings, or plate bindings? I've been unable to find anything on them via google.
  9. Interesting. Unfortunately, my DV camera does not have a video-in option, so I may have to mount the whole thing on the nose... I'll need something strong and not sure how to do that at this point. Maybe I'll just duct tape it to the board. =) Let us know how the new prototype goes.
  10. Very nice! I've been contemplating trying this for some time, and am curious how you did it (and what you're doing for shock absorption on your new model). Also, what camera did you use? I'll be doing mini-DV, and would like to find out more... if I can learn more before hacking, maybe I can avoid repeating mistakes, etc. thanks johnS
  11. FYI, I've still got some boots left... a few in size 26 and plenty in 27. http://johnstewart.com/boots/
  12. I would; I loved BC (although the snow did kinda suck at Whistler when we were there this January). However, it's my understanding that it's a real pain in the butt for an American to get a job there (i.e. a computer geek job instead of working as a liftie)... so I pretty much wrote off anything north of Seattle.
  13. So I love my little town (Madison, WI), but my girlfriend would really like to move away for a year or two... anywhere. I'm willing, but if I move, I want to move someplace where there is a killer place to snowboard. I've been carving for a year or so, and love it, but I also love freeriding if there is some interesting terrain. This year I'm on my carve board 90% of the time, but as an example the last time I was out (on Monday), we'd had a couple of inches of snow, so I was riding the freestyle board in the chunky stuff... through the trees... a little halfpipe (when it's slow and soft is when I like it). I'm a computer geek by trade, and ideally I'd like to find a nice hill next to a city where I can get a decent job. I've got a good resume, so I should have pretty good options. However, I'm thinking a ski town out in the middle of nowhere (Jackson Hole, for example) wouldn't have much in the way of computer geek jobs. Also, we'd prefer to not be in a sucky place socially and politically. I could deal with it, but my girlfriend is a die hard bleeding heart liberal, and would probably not want to live in the middle of Wyoming or Montana (though I don't know - how is Bozeman?) I've never even been there, but Portland is probably #1 on our list right now. Mt. Hood is right nearby, as I understand. So does anyone have any recommendations? thanks! johnS
  14. Cooler is nice, but I care more about ridability. Ya, that's the reason I asked; I've got a buddy who is going to bid on it though, so I guess I won't do a bid war with him. =(
  15. I've got a Burton Factory Prime 167cm, and love it. But when running NASTAR locally they really like to do tight gates on our little hill, so I was thinking of something a bit easier to turn tightly. Can anyone tell me about a Volant Excel 162? How would it compare? Sure *looks* nice, but I don't want it if it doesn't ride nice... thanks!
  16. Any plans to get more 3-hole disks made sometime in the not too distant future? Is there no way to mount on a Burton board with the 4-hole disks (i.e. rotating the disk somehow)? Lusting for a set... don't trust my current bindings...
  17. I've still got a bunch of 27's and a few 26's left. I think there *should* be a few satisfied buyers lurking here someplace. $35 + shipping, no liners... a cheap way to get into it. See this URL for a link to pay, and more info: http://johnstewart.com/boots/ This is all I've got. No liners, no other sizes. When they're gone, they're gone.
  18. I'm feeding my snowboard jonesing by looking at some new gear. I board, freestyle and hardboot, 2-3 times a week (perhaps not a ton by the standards here) during the season. The one thing I'm sick of is waxing and scraping and brushing.... it looks like a rotobrush might be the way to go to at least help out SOME in that area. Looking at Tognar, I see that there are two brands to choose from. Red Creek: http://www.tognar.com/waxtools.html#TOK-2547 Swix: http://www.tognar.com/waxtools.html#SWX-T14 The Red Creeks are available in 30cm widths for snowboards, but the only brushes available in that size are a medium and soft nylon. Is this the Cadillac way to go? I guess I think it would be nice to have a Copper brush to knock off all the old wax and get a good structure *before* the wax, else I'd be sold on the snowboard-sized ones (though the price is painful, for sure). The other options are Red Creek in ski size (which gives the most brush options) or the Swix (which is MUCH cheaper, but only nylon again and only in ski size). Anyone have recommendations? thanks
