barryj
A big shout out to Sean at Donek! What you see below is a brand new, minty fresh 2022 Donek UPM F Plate! The UPM versions are the premier F Plate performance wise and most Alpine coaches would agree that the F Plate was a huge game changer for short, snappy slalom boards but haven't been available new for years and seeing a used one for sale on the forum is quite a rarity! So Sean (got tired of my pestering and begging and) graciously offered to mill and piece together his last few remaining UPM bits for me. Thanks Sean.........You tha Man! Now all were waiting on is a little UPM Go-Kart to arrive from Bruce at Coiler to slap this baby on and it's off to the races!

Man it sure hasn't felt like a "finally" purchase as this UPM Turny Plankenstein mutant has been in my head and on the books with Bruce for over a year! The "finally" here is , this UPM Turny hypothesis, after months of discussion and debate back and forth with Bruce, Sean/Donek, Frank/Virus, Hansjurg/Kessler and Admin/Corey and Jack here on the forum is finally coming to fruition as Bruce says it's finished and boxed and ready to ship tomorrow/Monday! Now I just gotta find my Mojo to ride the damn thing!
ShortcutToMoncton
Hah, what was Bruce’s take on the plate? He doesn’t seem to like them in general, at least for non-racers. In my experience he probably has a point when it comes to weight + benefits if you’re riding recreationally, but I only ever had very limited runs on the original Apex hardboot plate which is likely long outdated? I think part of the newer Contra-style designs has been to thicken/deaden that middle area of the board and make it a bit less susceptible to twisting and fore-aft pressure shifts, a slightly quasi-plate approach if you will, without the isolation “benefits”. I wonder if he recommended that build for your plate experiment? If you’re a lower-body beast and don’t mind the weight and extra fiddling, then it’s definitely worth having some fun with it! I wish I’d grabbed the Apex for a super reasonable price when I had the opportunity, but I probably didn’t give it enough of a chance. He thinks the board gets so bent any additional inserts/holes weaken the boards life span and/or puts it at risk of snapping. Not sure how the trendy "flex" plates are any different ......I guess fewer holes that close together?? 7 hours ago, ShortcutToMoncton said: Contra-style designs He did offer a Contra Angrry design. He said it's better on ice but not as snappy. I said no thanks as thers no such thing as ice out here in the Sierras and I want full Angrry Snappy! But adding the UPM F Plate and 1/2 edges will slap Ice silly anyway.....so no problem!
