www.oldsnowboards.com
Anyone got first hand experience with the Steepwater 179 Kite Snowboard? Looks and feels like my kinda board, beefy, higher radius side cut , fairly narrow for a freestyle board, large radius nose. I was thinking a Kite board shape would not resemble a good long board snowboard for some reason? Shorter than I typically ride but pretty tempting, up until a few days ago I don't think I knew that Steve even made a 179cm snowboard. Only the 171cm. Love to hear back on other's impressions. Guessing it holds an edge well and likes to turn more like an alpine board? Thanks in advance. BlueB
Bryan, that's awesome, looking forward to hear the ride report. It seems like a Steep with a bit bigger nose? Anyways, from what I remember, Bordy and few other kite guys were explaining, the kite boards should preferably have no camber, but just some rocker in tip/tail. Also the reverse side cut doesn't seem to be uncommon. I think that you need the board up on the edge even when going straight, to prevent the side drift. If there is a normal sidecut, the board wants to turn...
www.oldsnowboards.com
Thanks Blue B. That makes sense, from my searches the kite boards are all over the map as far as specs. It has low camber, but some. Measured by hand: Tip: 29.1 CM Waist: 24.7 CM Tail: 29.1 CM Running Length: 141 CM I believe it is a true twin tip. Shape looks similar. I do prefer being "Centered" and it has promise. On "Tweener" days this might be handy! From posts online it appears to be 2004 or 2005 perhaps? So 10 years old or so. It looks well built and beefy which helps when you are 250lbs :) Thanks, Bryan Edited November 12, 2014 by www.oldsnowboards.com
Smilin'Dave
Recently acquired a Kite 179 from my local Craigslist. I am confused on the length. I thought 179 was to indicate 179cm. Layed it up against my other boards to find it closest to a 164cm length... So, it's a board designed for snow kiting...? So, 179 is simply part of the name...?
