xolufus Posted October 14, 2014 Author Report Share Posted October 14, 2014 Powdahonz, That's not an easy question to answer...I spent - over the last two seasons - only using these decks - when the conditions merited...The Fissile for when I knew I could get to the trees and the powder quickly and could spend most of the day there...The Pow Stick on what we would call epic days or heli days...and the Spearhead for in between...The Pow Stick carves incredibly well for it's specs...that's what great about it because at the end of the day when things are tracked out - the Pow Stick does extremely well - for lack of a better term....."getting you home"...The Fissile's ability to turn on a dime and float almost as good as the Pow Stick is great, but its SCR makes it hard on the flats and the wide open areas for making bigger turns - and as mentioned the Spearhead fits between these two...Definitely all of these boards are terrain specific - but I put quite a bit of thought into how to combine these three "terrain specific" into one and by working with Sean@Donek he came up with a 'Promad' - a Nomad/Proteus hybrid which did take into account all of my one size fits all approach to bringing down my quiver size... I was able and lucky enough to spend a lot of time out west this past season, but where exactly do you ride and for how long each day do you need the specific characteristics of the design of the board - NOT trying to shoot myself in the foot, but these boards are great and you would swear that all three of them were brand new (9.99/10.0)...But to close...The Promad that Sean built me - replaced the need for all three of these boards... xolufus Posted October 14, 2014 Author Report Share Posted October 14, 2014 (edited) Dave, Yeah, no problem...when I'm done working today - I'll go over the notes - I have, but Just FYI: We narrowed the waist - which is no big deal, but I also had it moved towards the rear of the board, allowing for the VSR that I wanted...And also (IMHO) allowing for any need or type of swallowtail... We went with a very long length for the design (179cm) and put a full metal top sheet that went to the end of the edges, meaning it didn't stop short of the edges; which turned out to make the board; incredibly grippy and surprisingly quick edge to edge and very confident on icy spots... We also went with a little more fragile, but w/ a racery base with no die-cut on the bottom - to keep it smooth...The thinking was that it would need to move swiftly on the flats, which most powder, backcountry boards sacrifice for durability and that's understood... Sean cautioned me on the upkeep of the base, but I am meticulous on the maintenance of my boards...And it proved no problem after a good 40 full days on the mountain last season...Just literally on this deck alone... Finally, it has a Proteus core instead of the standard Nomad core - which really made a huge difference in getting the board to "spring" a jump turn or push back more smoothly off of a bump...and also made it more damp towards the end of the day - then a typical powder/backcountry design... I'll put up all the specs after I'm done w/ work...or email them to you directly...
