"hotboxing" using the summer sun

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone has ever put a board outside in direct sunlight, base up, after hotwaxing with a liberal amount of wax, to get a poor mans version of hotboxing their board?

The temps here the next 5 days are 100 degrees and above.

Just wonder if this is a good, or very bad idea, with potential problems, or "what a great idea".

Thanks for any and all replies.

UV damages?

Consistent temperatures?

I would be concerned that the black base material would get too hot and delaminate.

Try it with an old board first. Perhaps a solar hot box? Black roofing material laid over a shallow box?

Punch a temperature probe through the side of the box? The heat would likely be spread out evenly over the board.

Your attic? I know mine gets over 120F frequently. That is what the t-stat is set at for the exhaust fan. It just came on :) Going to be HOT here in the PNW this week.
