tpalka
This looks neat -- would be great for a night Keystone run. Last time I went I got freaked out by the straight-liners passing me in the dark. Even with my blinking bicycle lights... http://www.thefancy.com/things/289728833/L.E.D-Snowboarding-by-Jacob-Sutton :) tom.
kieran
i wonder if it'd be possible to include a piezo layer in a snowboards layup ... and then wire it to a string of LEDs that would go flashy-flashy when you decamber the board or otherwise generate enough stress. Already been done. K2 Electra circa 1999.

OhD
My wife has a blue Electra hanging in the garage. The LED isn't very bright, and you definitely don't want to get too fascinated by it. The board's too small for me (156-ish) so I can't say whether or not the advertised functionality of damping the board flex by converting mechanical energy to electrical to light did any perceptible good. Given that the LED might soak up 100mW, I rather doubt it, unless there's a bunch of resistors in there as well. I had a roughly contemporary pair of K2 Comp skis with the same gadget. They were nice, fairly damp skis, but you couldn't short out the electrical circuit to neutralize the effect and thereby test the functionality. The catch phrase was "If it's blinkin', it's thinkin'.." which was perhaps overstating the sophistication of the circuit just a little. I bought the skis, though, so perhaps the functionality was all there and out-thinkin' me...
kieran
maybe they could update the design to incorporate a capacitor, the charge of which you could expend on a deserving underisable. ;)
