Utah Secrets?

Any Salt Lake locals have any secret lodging tips?

The wife and I have some airline tickets to use or lose before the holidays and we thought we would head to SLC for some of that fine early season snow you're getting.

She's looking for something quaint and romantic (think fancy B&B); I'm looking for something close to the slopes (think camper van parked in the Snowbird lot). Perhaps there is something for both of us? :D

We've been to both the Park City resorts and the Cottonwood resorts and prefer the latter. Something along the Wasatch front in Sandy or Midvale would be ideal.

Many Thanks!

Mark

Check out Homewooduites - on the road to Big Cottonwood canyon (Brighton/Solitude).

At Brigthon, buy a local a drink to get sponsored into "Molly Greens" - then buy a temp membership. Best food / service on the mountain.

Avoid QUAD days - Brighton used to run these in early season, I think they were on Wednesdays? - four for the price of one. Had to be one of the largest skip days. Head to Solitude to avoid the crowd.

Food Network did a "locals find" last year and featured this B & B for it's breakfast, looked good but never tried http://www.silverforklodge.com/

May sound funny, but another possibility is the University of Utah guest housing - hey, it's reasonably priced, nice new facilities and within 10-15 min of of Big Cottonwood (Solitude/Brighton) and another 10-15 to the resorts from the mouth of the canyon. Add another 10 min or so to the Bird. F... Forget Alta!

It's located near the Heritage Center (a very nice facility) complex on the upper campus which includes the housing that the athletes stayed during the 2002 games. Some other cool stuff to see right on campus. It's within a few minutes drive to downtown SLC, with an option to take Trax (light-rail system that runs near the guest housing complex). I've seen 'em and they are really quite nice - my folks have stayed there a couple of times while visiting us while I was attenting the U. Here's the link:
