Keep it up and congrats. Is that Gleb I see in there working on his turns in the summer. Very cool! Ink Thanks Ink! Subtract the 6 pros who were there and the points toward amateur ranking are even better! :-) It has been a LONG skate comp summer - started course training 3/15/09 (in Vermont no less) for the Texas event at the end of March. Probably will go to the Dixie Cup in Statesville, NC first weekend of November too...if the body holds up. Yup - Gleb is getting better and better. Last year he only got a time in the GS...finished all three events this year and even beat some people! Got him on a Fullbag with Rads now too! Saw your video of your son at Overlook in the other thread - sweet. Hope to see you either on snow this winter or at a skate comp next year! Be well. -RF Quote
Bullwings Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 I recognize 3 pro names up there, Kramer, Pappas, and Carrasco. Anyway, quick question about slalom, "Are rock stiff boards the main way to go?" I have an Axe2.5 that I just can't get used to. I know super flexy is bad, but what about a little bit of snappy flex - Roe Racing boards have flex, suited to slalom, right? Also, is a 25" WB too long to run slalom, maybe GS? Quote

I'll comment on the Stiffness issue I am more comfortable on a stiffer Fullbag slalom board as opposed to a softer flexxier Pocket Pistols or Roe Racing board. My feet are over the trucks and i am able to control power and direction quite well. I tried an Axe it was nice but the tail was too different from my Fullbag for me to be really comfortable with it. The Roe's Ive tried sucked up too much energy for me to skate well though I could see how if you got adjusted to it you could use the flex to aid/add to your speed through cones especially through flat sections. Wheel Base 17-19"Tight slalom 19-22"Hybrid slalom 22-25"Giant Slalom Longer gets into ditch and downhill boards Quote

Competing pros at Antrim were: Louis Ricard Paul Price George Pappas Richy Carrasco Noah Heinle Lynn Kramer Keith Hollien Podium decks at Antrim were Sk8kings, Pavel and Fullbag - stiffer is better. Pavel and Fullbag decks tend to have more "pop" than Axe. Roe hasn't put out anything to compare with current boards in quite a while now. I run TS at 18-19.5 inches WB, HY at 20-21.5 inches WB and GS at 22.25-23.75 WB. Quote
Gleb Posted September 26, 2009 Report Posted September 26, 2009 yeah, I've gotten better, but not by much. Maybe its because I have had less than ten days of cones this summer due to weather sucking, work, and being lazy. Better step it up for next year. Most of my best runs were ones that didn't count too. At least I have room for improvement....lots of room I'm loving my fullbag/rads set up. I'll try the rads on the Axe sometimes next week to see how that feels. Quote
