jetskier
Anyone used one of these as board protection like they advertise? Is it necessary?
KingCrimson
Lots of people use polycarbonate (Lexan) on their metal boards. I made them, it cost about $10 and 15 minutes of time with a jigsaw and a drill. Billy Bordy made a template video on youtube, <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzvqE9ual-Q&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzvqE9ual-Q&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
tex1230
from previous discussion here, I think they are necessary for some metal boards - mainly ones without a topsheet over the top layer of metal - like Kessler and last generation Prior metals. jetskier
Still necessary if you use the new D3 Elastomer Upgrade Kit?
KingCrimson
I like my coiler the way it is. I'd use polycarb no matter what. Cheap insurance, it's like a helmet.

Looked on their website, but just found the video.
KingCrimson
Can't find Bordy's.. http://www.catek.com/resources/FRS_RS_dimensions.pdf
KingCrimson
A shape like that. Make it as wide as your board, and round the edges. An upside down beltsander works surprisingly well. My board has Hangl inserts, and I drilled those out of the polycarb for camera mounts too.
jetskier
Thanks for all of the info! Where did you find the polycarb?
jp1
Video says it's on their website, but it is not there yet (I called yesterday) and was told "it will be posted soon". You can probably get Polycarbonate at Home Depo, Lowes, Plastic's Supply, Hardware Store or a local Fabrication Shop. Don't forget, for whatever thickness Polycarbonate you use, you will have to get screws that go into the inserts that much longer (preferably Stainless Steel). SEJ
Tap Plastics. Take a template and they can cut and drill it out for you. I've had them make a lot of plastic stuff for me over the years.
