fishrising
Thinking of heading up to Okemo, to pick up my midweek super pass, on either Thur or Fri of this week. I may be going solo, or I may be going with some guys from work, not sure yet. Anyone going to be up there?
JoeK.inVt
I've got the kids on the 11th, but I will be working on the 12th, so I may be able to take a run or two with you if i'm not busy. I'll be the one in a lift ops jacket, wearing a radio and riding a yellow Donek FC1 179.
fishrising
Whats the word on the mtn for the better day, Thur or Fri? I can prob do either. Just need to decide which would be better.
JoeK.inVt
It's raining here today (wednesday), so you may want to make it friday to have the extra day for conditions to recover. Our groomers are very good, but two groomings after the rain are better than one.
fishrising
Thanks Joe, everything I am reading says the snow is due at 1:00pm. True or not, please keep us posted. I would appreciate it! I would prefer to ride tomorrow, but if conditions dictate otherwise.... PS, I'll be in an off-white almost grey jacket, grey helmet, and on a red version of your board's big brother, Donek Oppenheim FC 179cm x 21cm x 11.2m, if I feel like breaking in my new hardboots. If not, I'll be riding my softies on a Donek Delrossi Freeride 175cm x 29cm x 10.7m which I just got, and am told it can carve like mad. And I am 6'7" so I shouldn't be hard to miss. JoeK.inVt
That's taller than my oldest brother (6'6"). I'm the shortest brother at 6'3". I hadn't even considered the weather other than temps. I looked at weather.com and what it shows for Ludlow is rain until tonight, ending around midnight just after changing over to snow, cloudy until afternoon tomorrow when it starts snowing, light snow for the first few hours but getting heavier in the evening and continuing overnight through afternoon friday. looks like hard and fast thursday and soft on friday, both have advantages and disadvantages, your choice. Gleb
I'll be at okemo this saturday (12/13), giving one of my friends a ride up there for a free lift ticket. She and her dad work there as snowboard instructors on the weekends. Her name is Jess Glagov, you know her?

fishrising
Hey JoeK or anyone else up in VT, whats the word on weather and conditions? I don't trust most internet weather forecasts for mountain conditions. Thanks!
JoeK.inVt
Stopped raining about 4pm yesterday, temp dropped overnight, started snowing about 2 hours ago, 25 degrees now (12:45), so far so good!
xxguitarist
I need to get my friends asses in gear on getting the college season pass. Sounds like this weather didn't kill you guys too badly.
JoeK.inVt
We bounce back pretty quick. Okemo's groomers are some of the best I've seen, and I have worked at more than a half dozen resorts in the last 20 years.
fishrising
Conditions sound like they should be good on the mountain. My problem now is deiciding if driving through MA on ice is worth it in the morning.
xxguitarist
Sounds like I may be at stratton/sunapee/okemo on saturday. no idea which one, yet.
Gleb
Willy, i haven't got to talk to her yet but I'll let her know. Some of the worst conditions I've ever been in have been at okemo. A foot of snow, followed by rain to make a super thick crusty top. The groomers went over it and turned it into little triangular chunks that would destroy your board, knees, and arms. combine that with the intense wind, and fog so thick that we couldn't go faster than skidding speed. I've also had some amazing conditions up there too. At least I've never had to pay :) Give me a ring at 508 265 1974 if you wanna take some turns between lessons. And anyone else that might be up there, do the same if you want. I think I'm gonna bring a slalom board just in case you guys get swamped by the pushy NY crowd. EDIT: Chang of plans for me. I'll be leaving okemo at around noon because I gotta be back in boston by 3 or so. Feel free to call me before 11:30 though and I'll be honored to take some turns. xxguitarist
I can't wait to run "tuckered out" @ the jackson gore peak/okemo on my new donek axis 172, I nearly folded the nose of my F2 speedcross on some of those drop & turn corners. I think I'll still be able to turn quick enough for all of them, but I may have to pick my line a little more carefuly.
JoeK.inVt
33 degrees this morning, the forecast was for ahigh of 28 today. That sucks!
fishrising
We have tropical downpours in central CT right now and ice in the NW hills. Oh well, next week I have Wed and Fri blocked off on my calendar, so hopefully at least one of the days I can make it up there. Thanks for the updates JoeK! Gleb
Nice talking with you, Joe. Too bad we couldn't carve it up. I saw at least 2 other carvers out there, both on Oxygen Protons. The conditions were top notch. Way better than out at Loon on sunday. I'll be back up there soon.
xxguitarist
Hows the weather looking up there? Down here it's been raining on & off more, and yesterday was quite warm. Hoping to get to okemo a week from today.
JoeK.inVt
Nice to see you too Gleb, maybe next time. I did actually get out on my board later that morning, but didn't see you anywhere. By the way, one of those Proton riders was a friend of my cousin. Weatherwise, it's getting better. We had a nasty ice storm thursday night, with over an inch of ice in some places on the mountain. Rain late yesterday, froze overnight. After tomorrow temps should stay below freezing for over a week at least (according to the forecast). Maybe I will see you next week. JoeK.inVt
I can't wait to run "tuckered out" Tuckered out is not open yet, but they started to work on it yesterday so maybe it will be open by next week.
xxguitarist
Tuckered out is not open yet, but they started to work on it yesterday so maybe it will be open by next week. While not the best for carving it up however you want, it's just such a fun trail with those steep drops through the corners.
