scrapster
Any word on Berkshire East yet? I hear the snow makers have been going for a while now, but not a peep about opening day...
*Ace*
Dingbat is an instructor there. I think he told me that there was instructor training this weekend. The BEAST is supposed to open to the public Dec. 6, weather permitting. Contact Dingbat if you have any more questions.
dingbat
Ace pretty much covered it. It's raining tonight and was rain/freezing rain all the way across I-90 from I-91>West, even at the high areas. I'll try to get an accurate report from one of the guys up the hill as the weekend aproaches.
cail
any news on the BEast for the weekend?
scrapster
I'm wondering the same thing. This is killing me! Since I paid for a pass there this year, I'm now too cheap to spend the big $$$ in VT for early season stuff.
dingbat
Should be open this weekend with very sporadic coverage. Upper to Lower Chief is open, Upper and Lower Comp. are covered half-width and may be connected by the weekend. If you've got your pass and nowhere else to go this weekend, it would be worth it to start getting your legs back under you, but that's about it. If you've got other options for the weekend, plan on hitting the Beast a little later. I'll be up there this Sun. for instructor training. Come find me if you're up, otherwise, I'll keep you informed of conditions as well as I can.
scrapster
From the Berkshire East website: \We will be opening for the season on a weekend schedule this saturday and sunday (12/6 and 12/7) from 9 am till 4:30 pm with 7 trails and 3 lifts!!!
dingbat
Was up today. 7 trails = Upper Chief, Lower Chief, Lower Comp., Bunny Hill, Tow Rope (which is now a magic carpet), Cat Track from U. Chief to L. Comp., Cat Track from Bunny Hill to Lodge. 3 Lifts = Black chair, bunny chair, tow rope (magic carpet). Up side is the snow on Chief was pretty good. Next weekend should show a significant improvement, but the Poma is down and probably won't run till after Christmas. They changed the gearing in the black chair. It's still fast, but not the death-trap for the inexperienced it used to be. To bad, that chair was near legendary status. Of course, with everyone riding it, it stops a couple times each ride for the people who don't know how to load or lose their nerve due to the noise. Oh, and the door from the deck to the main lodge has been replaced, so no more picking bloody fingers up off the carpet when you walk in! dingbat
Hell yeah! and I spoke with Roy today. The Rally is on!
scrapster
Thanks for all the updates! I once saw a cocky jibber get run over by that chair lift. We took a measure of satisfaction in it as he had just cut off the entire line. What's the Rally of which you speak?
*Ace*
Rally at the Thunderdome (BE). Its when a group of carvers meet up for a discounted day of carving. Last year was a blast, would be great to have more people this year!
scrapster
Has the date been set yet? If I'm around, I'll be there!
