C5 Golfer
Ebay has good deals on Graphics cards.. specially if you know exactly for what you are looking.
bobdea
I was not sure which exact one you were looking for so I'll link you to the list http://www.pricewatch.com/video_cards/ that said for another $50 you can get a much better card, I'd suggest going that route maybe the 3850 http://www.pricewatch.com/video_cards/radeon_hd_3850_512mb.htm if you have a AGP system the 3850 is as good as it's gonna get and actually performs fairly well for a AGP based system. the AGP version of that card might be slightly hard to fine but worth it. What's in the box for the CPU? What type of graphics bus does it have?
paragonUE
ok, I have a Dell Inspiron 1526 dual core AMD Turion 64 mobile processing vista processor speed is 2.0 GHz 3GB memory hard drives 160 GB the current substandard graphics card is a ATI RADEON XPRESS 1270 with HyperMemory and video memory is up to 256 MB the only problem i really seem to be having is with the card. im not sure what other cards ill be able to shove into it because ive only replaced vid cards on desktops before
bobdea
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Laptop, many laptops you're stuck with the card that's in there because it's soldered on but on the higher end this is not the case do you know what chipset you have? bobdea
k I did some research for you and from what I can tell is even if your machine is upgradeable you'd be better off building a low end gaming desktop. If you have a case, this can be done for 300ish....... It looks like most of the dells have the graphics built in unless you have the XPS models, in that case you can upgrade. C5 Golfer
My suggestion if you need a laptop would be a Dell M90 with a 512mb 2500 model nVidia video card and 2- 4gb ram off eBay. they come with a 17" screen and can run an external Digital monitor up to 1920 x 1200 resolution. They are pretty damn nice -- Maybe I am biased -- I use one and love it now that that it has XP loaded.
bobdea
yeah, Al has got it on the Dell. that's the catch with Dell though on the high end they make decent stuff but their low end is just terrible in that their components are failure prone and they bear a lower value than much of the competition in the same lower price range.
