Hey, surfers!

Doc Martins sunscreen is sold in the islands. Works and smells way betta than Bullfrog.

Try surfing early in the am with a longsleeved rashguard to avoid crowds and sunburn.

Make sure you have a tight fitting rashguard that has an elastic waist so it doesn't slide all over when you are paddling. I had 3 rashguards in Mex last year and only used the tight elastic waist one.

There is a fairly clean looking baseball cap style sun/headgear out by FCS.

No reef booties or Gath helmet unless you can shred.

Hey John,

How tall are you and how much do you weigh? I've got a long sleeve rash guard that may work for you. It's standard nylon/spandex, not 1mm neoprene so it shouldnt get too hot for you. It's size XL. I'm 6'0 160 and its just a bit baggy on me. They stretch tonnes so I think it should probably fit as long as you're not super skinny or super 'large'. Let me know if you're interested and I'll send it to ya for free.

Keopele--Wow, that is super cool. :biggthumpThanks so much! I'd pay for the shipping, of course. Thing is, I'm a lot shorter than you--5/8", 170 lbs. Wouldn't the sleeves hang off a lot? My arms are kinda short. (In dress shirts I wear a 32-33 sleeve.)

Hey John,

No problem :) I don't think the shipping will be very much. I'll let ya know, but if it's under $5 don't worry about it.

I think the sleeves will be okay for you. I just checked my dress shirts and they're 32/33 sleeve as well. I have a super skinny neck (14.5) so I guess that's the standard sleeve length for that size shirt? Anyways, the sleeves on my dress shirts fit me fine. And although this rash guard is supposed to be an XL the sleeves are actually slightly short on me so I think it will be perfect for you. I just took a picture of myself in it and I'll try to email it to you right now. You'll see that it's slightly baggy on me and the sleeves are ever so slightly too short. I hope it works out :)

sometimes ya can feel the Aloha here on BOL :1luvu:

nice surfboard table

:biggthump

can I have a rainstick ?;)

my landlord(an old lady from Thailand) in Oaha taught me the TRUE meaning of Aloha one night, never forget it ( she still wanted the rent every month, tho)

super sweet person, she was:1luvu:

there's a little story behind it, I'll tell later

it goes like this:

Also, I've noticed "Aloha" is used for a lot of different things? .... or to do something free-of-charge, expecting nothing in return. (Except more Aloha).

I found that here:

ok,quik story from the land of aloha.

one night walking home from work, I took a side trip through a neighborhood I wasn't familiar (long way home) with just to check it out. A cab driver ran out of gas right in front of me. I said, hey, I'm pretty sure there's a gas station at the bottle of this hill. If we push you through this intersection you can just coast down to it. He says thanks alot and off he goes. He was an old guy and I doubt he could've pushed his cab alone.

as an after thought I kinda wished I'd asked him for a ride for the half mile back home. No big deal.

Later that night, chatting with Tina, my landlord, I told her the story. She says, in her lil Thai Yoda voice,"that IS the spirit of aloha, doing things for people you don't know and expecting nothing in return"

if only the rest of the planet could subscribe to such a concept

Well we all shine on

Like the moon and the stars and the sun

Well we all shine on

Everyone come on

Definitely! Thanks again to Keopele:ices_ange for this undeserved generosity. Hopefully I can return the favor in some way eventually. For now, I promise to spread the aloha!

I'll post a few pics after the trip, in just over a month.

Great video of that guy on the didge Willy. I've never seen anyone play two didges before. While on the topic of Didg playing, there is an australian Musician named Xavier Rudd that has a really laid back, surfy (a la Jack Johnson/ Donavon Frankenrieter) sound who also pays the didge. Check him out if you're interested.

John, that's great that you're feeling the aloha and wanting to spread it around. That's what it's all about :) I hope to be accross the border on Sunday to do some boarding in Ellicottville so I'll send it then. Enjoy

Timmy Curran's album, Word of Mouth , is a free download if anybuddy wants to check it out.

  • 4 weeks later...
One year we were short staffed so I pulled doubles all summer. Put in 70 hours a week. All my hair went white (arm, leg, and chest... what there was anyways, except for the hair which was not exposed) and I was darker than I've ever been. The other gaurds called me "The Vanilla Gorilla". They said I looked like the blonde ape from Planet of the Apes I think they were just jealous cause the girls seemed to love it.

RIP C. HESTON
