gdboytyler
I tried playing the video with Windows Media Player and Quicktime. All I get is the audio. What media player should I use? Or do I need to download a plug-in?
Hans
I tried playing the video with Windows Media Player and Quicktime. All I get is the audio. What media player should I use? Or do I need to download a plug-in? It's an european Xvid with 25 frames per second (PAL). I believe in the US you use 29 frames a second. gabor
Too many riders are breaking at waist if beginning toeside. Time to work on it for them. There are some great carving as well but the majority still needs big improvement. Maybe the original EC videos did set too high standards. nils
yes improving ;) but slowly... but there was almost 200 different people and you cant have all at J and P level hehe it was more about having fun together, and the goal of the meeting is to help people increase their level with tips and advises as well as unformal lessons with people that are good :) To their defense, the slopes are really steep! and its a little scary even if you are used to them.. grooming is also far from perfect, zinal has very little snowcats compare to what bigger resorts have ( eg aspen, or local swiss resorts..). They groom with cables since slopes are too steep for normal grooming ( the snowcat is held from above and grooms with a cable attached to top of the slope for safety and breaking power) and its hard to make perfect grooming when you are on cable. Newmax
Hmm the times, I've been to Zinal (ECS 1 and 2, the grooming was great as far as I can remember. Steep, yes! Hope there also some steep parts in Aspen Cheers PS: Noone has to "excuse" his carving capabilities, everyone had to learn in the beginning, except maybe pogokoenich! :p
Istvan
Hi Gabor, Try to come and join us this time in Zinal. Indeed a great place! And the slopes are VERY steep. No wonder many bend a bit at frontsides as everyone wants to lay it down as soon as they can, otherwise will be catapulted into the powder outside the slope. Even the masters bend a little and reach for the snow at a certain point: http://www.swoard.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=1&pos=1 http://www.swoard.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=1&pos=5 http://www.swoard.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=1&pos=7 Look forward to meeting you in Zinal or maybe in Austria sometime. Cheers
gabor
Hi István, Just to get a picture about steepness. How steep is Zinal compared to Hochkar Hasing (5a) and Sykora (10a) slopes? We nearly met two years ago in Hochkar at March. Only I had knee problems and needed to stay home :(. One of my friend told me that you met there. felix
It's a bit steeper than Haesing Steilhang - (my homebase last year). and a bit steeper than Sykora Hang too, but it happens rarely that Sykora Hang is carveable, last season they didn't groom it well at all. Did you have any luck carving it down last season? The biggest difference is however that that it's at least 2x as long. Both Sykora and Häsing Steilhang I've straightlined allready on skis (GS racing skis) and Sykora slope even on my boardercrossboard (which was a bit scary as the exit was tricky with such high speed), no way I would straightline Zinal top-bottom. Grooming is much better too in Zinal. Last season they just slid down Häsing Steilhang (dunno why at all), which ment really really bad conditions in April as there were many holes and bumps. Nevertheless Hochkar is my favourite Eastern Austrian place to ride. There simply is no other skifield wit so few crowds in low season (November and December as well as April) and pretty much noone during weektime (except for holidays). My favourite run on Hochkar to carve is besides Haesing the Grosses Draxlerloch early morning, which is quite steep too and due to the relatively narrow run makes it even more fun. gabor
Now I have a clue. Riding steep so long would be really fun. Last season the Sykora hang was not really rideable. I was ridden it the season before. I also suffer from reaching for the snow but working hard not to. One of my friend can carve down both Haesing and Sykora so that he never touches the snow with his hands. Quite impressive.
Guest raphael
thnx MUCH raphael/ jeanMa for your work :) Thank you for making it happen. :) top notch, Nils !McLovin' the porno techno trance soundtrack embedded it for ya I hope it makes sense. After all, the goal of ExtremeCarving is something like making love to the slope. :D Thanks for the embed. I tried playing the video with Windows Media Player and Quicktime. All I get is the audio. What media player should I use? Or do I need to download a plug-in? VLC plays almost everything. You can download it there: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ Or alternate solution: download The Xvid codec (any DivX, mp4 or such should work aswell) : http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/ full screen is worth it :) I hope so, that's how it was intended to be watched anyway. So please watch it full screen ! ... or even better, on your TV screen. The file should be DVD player (and set top box) friendly.
