Snow at Sun Peaks

by Rachael Kimola - Story: 34273

With just over a month until opening day, the snow is already coming to Sun Peaks.

Director of outdoor operations, Kevin Bendick, says more than 50 centimeters of the white stuff has fallen on the mountain in the last two weeks.

“The recent snowfalls on the mountain have given mountain operations a jump on winter preparations. We are experiencing weather about five degrees below normal and with the precipitation we have been receiving, we are already ten days ahead of schedule,” says Bendick.

He says grooming crews are compressing the snow to create a solid foundation on the high alpine runs.

“With the Austrian National Ski Team scheduled to arrive at Sun Peaks at the beginning of November, premium snow quality and conditions will be waiting for them.”

Sun Peaks opens for another season on November 17.

Conditions look great for the Sun Peaks Camp dec. 14-17, 46cm currently at the base area! For those who have never attended a SnowPerformance Camp at Sun Peaks, I can't think of a better way to start the season off. The terrain is absolutley amazing for carving with everything from the mellow warm-ups to the wide, rolling intermediate, to steeps that test your committment. I'm stoked to be coming back, this is my favorite camp all year! -Coach Harris
