I met a couple of the Inca Trail in 2003 who lived on the outskirts of LA, right up in the hills. They had real issues there with bears that would come and swim in people's hot tubs and pools. Apart from thinking that would really screw up your filters, I could just imagine coming home to a bear luxuriating in the tub saying "come on in, the water's fine" ... Apparently the ranger said that identifying the bears wasn't too hard ... their fur bleached from the chlorine. Apparently they really like swimming pools as the chlorine kills all the fleas and bugs in their coats (and leaves them in your pool, ick...)
