skategoat
Would a Volkl RT 168 be too stiff or too long for a 120 pound, 5'6" rider? My kid has outgrown his 154 Addicted and I don't see many GS boards in the 160cm range. I'm thinking of moving him up to my 168 Volkl. Thoughts? mr_roboteye
Just let him ride it, and see what he thinks. Once he tries it and sees how much more speed he can carry into a turn, you probably won't be able to get him off of it. The longer the board gets, rider weight is less of an issue anyway. The more velocity, the more kinetic energy the rider has, etc. And you probably shouldn't go too wide with the stance, in order to keep more weight in the centre of the board. Very strong quads wouldn't hurt either. later, Dave R.
Chris Houghton
I agree, let him try it. But don't be surprised if he's totally whipped after 2 or 3 runs. My bet is the "target weight" for that board is more like 150 adult pounds. Happened to my son on what I thought was a "soft" adult board. Maybe a Donek Pilot is in his future, or one of those Goltes boards from Dan? I have a short 4WD he can try out, target weight starts at 110. Bordy
I have seen and trained with 110lbs boys on the 180 size at FIS races. They had no problems, They are how ever FIS level athletes..
skategoat
Thanks for the feedback. I'll let him ride it and see what he and his coach have to say. In the meantime, I'll keep stuffing him with pasta.
Chris
suggested weight for an RT 158SL? I also have a young guy who wants to get off his freestyle board and give alpine a try. I figure he'd have no problem at 140lb.....but dad might have to snow test it too and he's 170lb. also still looking for M28 boots for the large footed kid--any cheap ones out there?
