HUNTINGTON BEACH PIER, Calif. – For the first time in the city’s nearly 100 year history, Boardfest® ’06 brings an all-girl snowboard rail jam to the Huntington Beach Pier on Monday, Sept. 4. More than 20 tons of fresh snow will fall on the beach and atop a custom-built platform as world-class female riders vie for a $1,000 “best trick” prize at the inaugural Boardfest Snowboard Rail Jam. Boardfest ’06 is co-sponsored by Hello Kitty, KTLA and the all-new CW network. Boardfest is the largest and most unique all-girl action sport and empowerment experience of its kind for GIRLS. The surf-skate-snow inspired festival showcases music, entertainment, fashion and interactive exhibits along with underlying themes of health, beauty and fitness from Saturday, Sept. 2 through Monday, Sept. 4 just south of Surf City’s famed landmark.

Designed by Super parX founder Tyrone Coyne, boarders launch from a three-story tall platform adjacent to the pier and drop some 90 degrees onto a 30 foot-long box feature (obstacle). Expect to see incredible maneuvers like a “360 tail slide pretzel out.” Practice runs will occur on Sunday morning starting at approximately 9:00 a.m. The invitation-only competition begins in earnest on Labor Day at 9:00 a.m. and runs until the snow melts. Awards will be held later that day on the Boardfest stage at approximately 4:00 p.m.

Coyne has earned credibility building some of the top freestyle terrain parks ever imagined. Check just a few: The Park at Big Bear Mountain, West Ridge at Snow Summit and Faultline at Mountain High. “We’re stoked to be involved with Boardfest and the first-ever snowboard rail jam at the Huntington Beach Pier,” said Coyne. “This should be a great event.”

Where action sports, music and life collide, Boardfest ’06 offers something for every level of involvement, synergistically weaving professional and amateur surfing and skateboarding competitions featuring high-caliber women athletes, surfing and skateboarding clinics, makeovers, education, games, activities, motivational speakers and attractions. The Boardfest stage will feature live bands, yoga clinics, dance performers and special guest appearances. The vast majority of Boardfest is open to the public free-of-charge.

“The Snowboard Rail Jam is an exciting and essential addition to Boardfest,” said Event Director Cherie Whyte. “We now have a ‘true’ Boardfest with three disciplines represented and a great venue for these outstanding women athletes to showcase their skills. What a great visual to see snow falling at the beach over Labor Day!”

Let me get this straight...they drop straight down (90 degrees would be a vertical drop) from 3 stories and are expected to do rail slides if they survive?

And what the f**k is a "pretzel out"?

Thanks for the spam, kook

how incredibly sexist!

"the ocean-front SkateZone street course allows girls to learn or master the exciting sport of skateboarding without the intimidation of the boys in an inviting and friendly environment."

yeah, cuz "boys" are just SUCH jerks to "girls" who want to skate, surf, or snowboard.

It's not sexist, it's reality. Many women find learning such stuff intimidating with the guys around. It's why all-women skiing and snowboarding camps are successful. It's something I've also found in the martial arts - no matter how accomodating you are, many women are intimidated by learning in a class of mostly men. It's a chicken and egg thing, but if you can build up enough women eventually you'll get a critical mass where they feel fairly comfortable. Having female instructors really helps, too.
