  1. Hey Skully -- I did not see it as a pissin contest -- we were just having a nice discussion -- thanks.. throwing a few friendly barbs now and then is ok with me..

Well, alrighty then, let's get back to it: [sARCASM-BARBING] Why didn't "my man" Levi finish the Olympic Road Race 5 years ago? I guess he was tired after his top 10 finish in the Tour de France... Lance gave up his place to Levi after winning the tour, I guess Levi should have given his place to.... I dunno, Horner???? How many Olympic Road Race medals does "your man" Lance have? [/sARCASM-BARBING] I got nuthin' to say about that Bettini guy, 'cept that I've got a green jersey in my closet, so...... (It's kind of an olive-green though, does that count?)

BTW what so you ride for a 2 wheeler? I ride a Serotta Legend Ti when it is dry and a Sekai steel when it is wet. Looking at adding a carbon to my stable in the next couple of months. Go Wilier!! :biggthump

Heh, anymore I'd consider myself more of a cycling fan than a cyclist. All of my cycling gear is like all of the snowboards that I own... OLD. When I do ride, my road bike is a Lemond Zurich. Steel frame, carbon fork, and every other carbon gizmo I could find when I sold all my old BMX gear for big $ on fee-bay. Bars, stem, cranks, seatpost. I even got carbon water bottle cages. They make me WAY faster (on my rollers...) It is a pretty comfy ride with the steel and the carbon though. Then there's the OLD GT LTS mountain bike, and the two observed trials bikes that mostly collect dust...

Anyone wanna buy a trials bike?

  2. Sure go go go -- any of the old farts --- BUT Skully any idea why your man did not even finish his race in the Olympics 5 years ago...???
C'mon Levi's not a one day racer... look at who won (Bettini). That was a one day racer's race, not a stage racer. How's Bettini ever done on GC in a grand tour?
Of course Lance is a "media whore". His primary stated goal in coming out of retirement is to bring more attention to the fight against cancer. As someone living with and fighting for my life against cancer, I appreciate Lance's "whoring" to no end. Besides, he's trying to help Levi win the Giro anyway, not himself.

OK since it looks like I started a pissing match, and offended some folks with my statement about Lance, I'll try to stop the pissing match, and clarify.. The statement was "meant to be" sarcastic, thus the ;). Yes Lance's reasons for his comeback are noble. I hope his comeback goes better than other proffessional sports figures comebacks. Even if he doesn't win anything, he should have no problem bringing more attention to his cause. I doubt there's anyone around that could bring more attention to the cancer fight than him..

BUT, he's not there to win the Giro, and has admitted that it's not a possibility for him to win the overall classification. Levi is there to win. I'm rootin' for Levi, 'cause he's got the best chance of winning out of the Americans that are there. Hopefully Lance can get a stage win and help Levi win the overall. Did ya'll see Lance pulling on the front yesterday in stage 11? He does make for a pretty good domestique...

    So, here goes:

    Go Levi and Lance :biggthump

    How's that?

  3. Fat Loss II:

I did the "A" workout last night, and the "B" workout lies ahead for tomorrow. I am also up to 4 of Alwyns rounds after, and those pedals where not wanting to turn very well after the front squats and lunges.

Let's hear your report about the "B" workout now.... (That's the one that nearly killed me... Over and over....)

One more week and start back on hypertrophy. Not looking forward to it.

Not looking forward to it? Hyp I is next for me, I WAS looking forward to it, but now.?.?.?

Is it because you dislike the Hyp programs, or something else?

  4. So how is eveyone doing? I have finished the break in period plus 3 of Alwyn's rounds after each workout, and have dropped ~7lbs. I am in the middle of my rest week before I jump into the next phase of evility, Fat Loss II. May and June are looking a bit tough, since I am adding another round with each phase. I am really looking foward the aforementioned giant sets in fat loss III. I must say, I can really feel a difference in my metabolism since I started, and it is nice to see that scale finally moving down.

    mario

Just finished Fat Loss II. (Man, am I glad those Bulgarian Split Squats /w Overhead Presses are over.... :barf: )

    Now on to Hypertrophy I....

  5. My guess is that the SL board would replicate short radius carves the way that the Ripstik replicates short radius skidded turns? I am sure that they are a blast.
I've only ridden GS skates extensively (go figure, I'm lazy) but it's close enough!

Gecko might(will) be able to answer this better than I, but it's a very fair comparison. Not only in the fact that you don't have compound movement, i.e. sliding and going forwards, but that you can pump and accellerate through the carve. Obviously I'm a crappy carver at best, so I've never replicated that on snow.

Alright, Gecko hasn't kicked in, so I will. Slalom skateboards definitely replicate short radius carves. Specifically, VERY short radius cross-under style carves (Especially on a tight slalom board.)

The video shows the world championships last year, first part shows the GS course, latter part shows tight slalom (Or possibly hybrid, I'm not positive.) Brownie points to anyone (besides Gecko) who can name an "Ex" alpine snowboarding racer in the video...

  7. and smelly lodges.

Classic. Just had to let you know that you made me chuckle with this coment Buell.

(Even some of the resorts that have "it all" still have smelly lodges though...)

Both Powder Mtn. and Snowbasin are a lot of fun....

  8. And people complained when I asked for pics...

    How ya feelin now, skully?

    :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

It wasn't a complaint  It was a plea for clarification, which was an absolute success:

Tex, you might want to re-think this....

Are you sure you want photos in a thread that starts off: "I'm Fat,....."

it was specifically directed @ carverchick and her size 2 dresses. I'm sure nobody wants to see pics of my fat a$$
    Thank you for the clarification.

To reiterate: No photos in this thread of anyone except carverchick!

Now let's keep it this way....

  9. Anyone used the Azzpadz?

As I crank up my angles higher (running F45, R30 now), I might endure different injuries. Would impact shorts (with side protection) be better?

    I'm with kjl.

Get some impact shorts - they'll give you just as much protection as the Azzpadz as far as the azz is concerened, and more hip protection than the Azzpadz, for around the same price.

I ride Demon Snow protecitve gear, but there are literally hundreds of options out there now...

  10. I'm no expert but I think there are a few reasons. One is that it is tough training, so it's certainly possible to hurt yourself if you are really out of shape. Another is that if you are way out of shape, you simply can't effectively do the training - if you are at the point where you could make a lot of gains in fitness simply by going for a walk a few times a week, not for you. A third is that HIIT requires that you understand what is happening with your body - when you have pushed anaerobic, when you have recovered, when you are really working too hard and should stop as opposed to just wanting to quit, etc.

    Good points.

Everything I've read lately just suggests that beginners won't do the training with as much "intensity" as more experienced folks would, and their rest times will be longer than those with more experience. It is all about "perceived exertion" though, and as you said, newbie’s might have a problem knowing when they're pushing it too hard...

  11. I have seen and heard where the guy on the freestyle board was asked to teach in the gates and the guy on plates had to teach in the park.

Gates? Did you really say gates? I don't remember the last time I heard anything related to gates mentioned in any AASI training....

I'd love to see some of the upper-level cert. guys where I work try to do gates. :lurk:

  12. Anyone care to share the contents of some of the aforementioned workouts?

I've been working towards trading a pound or two of fat for muscle, and generally working on getting back into the shape that I ought to be in.

If you're asking about "The New Rules of Lifting", it's basically a program that focuses on more functional lifting, or, lifting weights the way you would use your muscles in "real life". Most of the lifts end up being compound lifts also, working more than one muscle group at a time.

Differenent from other body building programs where you isolate each muscle / muscle group and work the crap out of it...

HIIT = High Intensity Interval Training. (If you were asking about that.)

  13. I bet you're talking about the Bulgarian split squat with overhead press, right?

    You guessed it.

Fat Loss I workout B just about does me in. Bulgarian split squats are freakin' hard!

Yup, even without the overhead press they're hard, add the OH press in, and they're quadruple (sp) freakin' hard! (Something for you to look forward to in Fat Loss II B ;) )

After finishing Fat Loss II B, I just lay on the floor for a while so my heart rate can drop a bit, and I can continue the day without fainting, or :barf:

I've never done any strength training that gets my heart rate up like that workout...

  14. I then got the book "The New Rules of Lifting", and I am doing the workouts provided in this book.

Another "NROL" newbie here Brad... "The Aerobics Myth" chapter in the book was pretty eye-opening to me. Goes completely against what most people think. I've been a semi-avid cyclist most of my life, and have dabbled with strength training. It will be interesting to see how this "new" way of looking at fitness works out....

Just wait 'til you get to the Fat Loss II series. There's an exercise in workout b that will make you cry... (In a good way...;) )

  15. speaking about carve, carve, carve ... came across this vid on the tube :

First of all, I'm sure they're loved in that neighborhood !

But .. to me it doesn't seem like they're using carveboards like those found on daddiesboardshop .. It looks more like mountainboards. anyone on that ? anyone tried one of these: http://www.daddiesboardshop.com/search.aspx?manufacturer=154

Yes, that's the Carveboard. I have one, and it's probably one of the closest alpine snowboard emulators you'll find as far as high edge-angles, but you can't ride anywhere near as fast on a Carveboard as you can on an alpine setup. They turn TIGHT, and they're only good for going down hills at relatively slow speeds, as I mentioned. They're not good for pushing skateboard style either - too heavy, and they don't roll far with the giant rubber tires.

The CarveStiks are closer to a skateboard as far as pushing goes, but still extremely sketchy at speed, and if you really want to push them around much, you'll need to replace the stock "Dakone" wheels with real skateboard wheels.

Jack has written articles about some of the "Summer Carving" boards if you haven't read them:

  16. Hey, nice reviews, Gord!

I rode a prototype (still old version, metal top sheet) of what later became Hardbooter PGS, or maybe Berube Pro board. It was very soft, too. Basically similar impresions as yours - nice and smooth, super easy to ride. Didn't notice the unwillingness to finish the C, though.

The Berube and the Pretty Good Stick are different designs, with different specs.

The Berube was designed by Phil Berube, I don't know if Billy had any input. The Pretty Good Stick was designed by Billy.

I haven't had a chance to ride the Pretty Good, but the Berube is definitely an excellent ride...

  17. I'm flying into SLC next weekend and will be there for the week. Its my first time out there, so I'm wondering what recommendations you have for resorts to visit, in terms of best prices, best conditions, best layout for carvers, etc.

Let me know what your favorite mountains are to carve it up on please! Thanks!

My favorites for carving are Park City, Snowbasin, and The Canyons. Pretty much any of the 'major' resorts near Salt Lake and Ogden have hardbooters that ride there including Solitude, Powder Mountain, and Snowbird.

You pretty much can't go wrong with any of those. Let us know what your plans are and someone might be able to get together to ride with you or at least make run suggestions for the mountian(s) you end up visiting.
