  1. Anyone else use a Carveboard?

I've got one. It's a fun gimick, and there isn't another board out there that emulates high edge-angle carving better.... (IMHO)

That being said, I ride my other longboards / skateboards a lot more, 'cause like you said, the Carveboard is a tank (sucks lugging it up the hill,) plus it doesnt like speed very much either....

  2. I have access to some 180g bulk bricks of Swix BP77 Base Prep wax. Labeled as "cold".

Swix's description is: This is a blend requested by World Cup Technicians for use on “cold” snow skis. Used on new skis and as travel wax.

I use it as a storage wax, or prep wax. Scrape it and put a layer of your favorite on top and it works great.

$15 per 180g brick, shipped to the USA. Discount for purchasing multiple blocks.

Contact me via my profile if interested.

    Paypal Payment preffered.

It will look sumthin like this, without the fancey top / label:

  3. You're right, mine had black hourglass and cone combo, too. No clue what they're called or the duro. Might be something like 85-90...

85a is the duro I've heard most when folks talk aboot the RaceTrack hourglass bushings....

  4. How do you ride your rear Randals? "CA" roadside, or "125" roadside? I found the CA roadside to be more stable, which would be similar geometry to flipped Split.

When I ride Randals on the rear on slalom decks, they're usually flipped, or with the "CA" roadside. They feel more stable to me flipped also. The Split's are suppoded to be more stable than even a flipped randal because of the offset / inline axles.

I have an "unflipped" Randal on the back of my LDP setup right now, and I don't think I've even tried that flipped. I guess I'll have to put that on my list of things to try...

  5. So I've got the elusive Split... Feels awsome.

However, I have few questions for the experts:

I'm not an expert, but here's how mine is setup:

    1) How much de-wedging (from level) majority uses for slalom? I found the 35* base with 13*-16* to work ok, but would like to hear from more experienced.

Aboot -9* on a 28* baseplate. Essentially the same as your -16*.

    2) Does anyone flip the hanger around and what is achieved that way. From experience with Randal 110 (trimmed 125) as the rear truck, it changes the feel quite a bit...

I don't think Splits were designed to do this. You might end up with the hanger crashing into the baseplate. I'd check for hanger/baseplate clearance if you try it..

    3) Bushing recommendations?

Mine is set up with a homeade Retro 89a Jimz shape boardside, homemade Retro 89a Stim shape roadside.

3)4) Finaly, the difference in feel of the Gen1 Split (Tracker base) to later Gens (Randal bases)? Mine is the Randal base version and it feels, well, like a sophisticated Randal...

Dunno, I havent' ridden a Gen1. I have ridden Airflows, which are quite similar to Gen1 splits, and they feel a lot alike the Randal based split.

  6. Yeah, and 98 last year at the Nats...I took one run in my black full-face helmet and almost passed out...had to switch to the shorty dome.

I guess I was just having too much fun (losing)... I didn't even notice the heat on Saturday, until Sunday, when it was 10 degrees cooler...

Note to self: make sure future full-face helmet purchase color is NOT black... :biggthump

  7. Basically new, they've got a couple of miles on them, enough to get rid of the mold release and that's aboot it. Never slid. The graphics are just beginning to crack, as the always do on Gummies.

  9. It needs softer bushings! :D

Just watch out for speed wobbles ;)

Now, Skully, imagine if you used your regular slalom trucks/wheels on this deck, yo could build yourself an 800-wheeler!

That DOES sound like something I might try, though after the 8-wheeler experience I'm not so sure....

  10. Is that setup for GS?

It was just something I wanted to try when I realized that I had enough mounting holes in the board to do it.

I wouldn't use that setup for anyting related to slalom, and doubt I would use it for anything else. It might work well for DH type stuff, but I don't really do that. Didn't see any benefit at all for slalom with 8 wheels, pretty much hated that setup from the get-go...

I'm still trying to figure out the optimal setup for my Randal 125 on a tighter/slower HS course.

I'd try 7 - 15 degrees of wedging for HS with a Randal. (Personal preference)

  11. 50* plates up front on those randals? How many degrees is it wedged?

Yes, 50* plates. The front-most Randal had one Khiro soft riser + 3* Khiro rails. The second Randal had one Khiro soft riser. They didn't stay that way for long, but that was the setup...

In the normal configgeration running a single Randal or Paris on the front, I use one Khiro soft riser.

  12. Can you use something as hard as delrin?

Yes, kinda like using a spherical bearing. If the pivot cup deforms less, turning will be more precise.

I was under the impression pivot cups were always so soft because they have to deform as the truck turns. It would make sense to use Delrin if pivot cups were perfectly spherical, but my Trackers definitely are not. It would be interesting to see if the truck binds when you get the Delrin wet, as I think it is very prone to swelling.

On reverse kingpin trucks, the pivot does not bind when turning, so delrin pivot cups work fine. Indy-style trucks, I don't know.... A lot of the time, when someone uses a delrin pivot cup on Indy-style trucks, they also replace the pivot with a spherical pivot / some kind of rod end, which eliminates the binding....
