  2. Glad to see you're doing better. You were sounding scary bad for a while.
  3. carvedog, I remember watching the thing between JC and Graham. I taped it and then watched it several times (a few times in slowmo). Graham (essentially a no name at the time) made a great pass on JC (JC was the current World Champion at PGS, PSL, and top 10 SBX) and personally I think JC (whom I like) was embarrassed by the move and if I remember correctly, after Graham crossed the finish line, JC came up hard on him either knocking him down or almost doing so. Either way, it madd JC look petty and mean spirited (which I don't believe he is either). Gleb, I found it to be pretty intense. My first SBX race (USASA series race), because of my age there were no riders in my group. So they put me in a group with a guy who was a 2 time USASA Legends champ, another guy who had done some higher level racing, and a guy who was pretty experienced in SBX. So here's newbie (who runs about 5'8 racing guys who were all at least 6 foot), in his first SBX, out of the gates, hanging with them, and a little ways down the course the pack bunches up. So here I am with one guy directly in front of me, and another to my left and right. I was essentially encased within a human box, riding by feel (I could not see anything). I was essentially riding blind. Needless to say, especially my first time out, it was pretty intense. You’ve got to hand it to short guys like Graham riding at 5’6 against lots of 6 foot plus guys. He made the U.S. Olympic team as an alternate in 2006, and finished in the top 20 at the Worlds in 2005. Given the amount of racing he does, you’ve got to believe he finds himself riding blind more times than he would like. And he's riding on very demanding courses as well. As was already mentioned, you have the USASA Mass series nearby. You can't ask for much more--right down the road. Gleb, if you're afraid of contact on the course do what I do, once the gates open, count to 1000 ten and then go. You'll have the course to yourself. The only problem is if you get stuck in a group where everyone counts to 1000 ten, but that's where know your competition comes in.
  4. I think Seth is strictly a softbooter in SBX, but I believe there were some hardbooters in the Olympic SBX. For some reason I recall the announcers discussing the difference in race strategy between soft and hardbooters. Could be wrong though. The USASA Nationals is not a "king of the mountain" level event, but when I raced SBX at the USASA Nationals in 2006 I wore hardboots and used a slightly rounded tail carving board. It had its advantages and disadvantages.
  5. Seb, nice details. Sounds like a great place to watch SB racing. Regarding TV and radio coverage, the only way we (Snowboard PGS/PSL lovers) are going to get more coverage is if those of us let the networks and local stations know that we want coverage. In some instances, say with newspapers, contacting the Sports Editor and letting them know that you are willing to supply results and information about the event. Clearly the sport is not big enough, nor popular enough to cause most TV, radio, or even print folks to invest their time to come looking for us. So our only option is for us to court them. Thanks again for sharing all the great info I know it takes time to put it together.
  6. Great weekend for Vic, Josh, and Constance. Very cool that a local could score a win and a 2nd place. Seb did the event draw many spectators? I’m just curious how and event like this draws in Canada.
  7. Seb, Thanks for the info. I'm very interested in seeing the results and any other feedback you can provide about the event. We are seeing the same thing south of the border. I remind all my friends who hate snow and cold weather, that there are a lot of seasonal workers living in rural areas that depend on that snow to make their living. As much as I love the snow for racing and riding, my heart goes out to those folks who are put out of work when warm/wet weather comes.
  8. Randy T. Thanks for pointing that one out. The problem is if a married guy buys the board for that price, chances are his wife is going to break it over his head. Then the one of a kind board will become two of a kind.
  9. Tyler finishes 6th. Bozzetto remains hot! Adam Smith also makes the round of 16. 10. I love seeing them develop and make their mark. Very cool stuff you're and others like you are doing with them! I really wish there was such a thing when I was a kid. It's probably good there wasn't, I went pretty fast and hard back then and probably would have ended up wrapped around a tree or two.
  11. Double dose! You're the first person I've ever heard of that got over a cold and caught another right away. Sorry man. Keep an eye on the lungs. Back when I was in the military, they kept me out in the swamps too long and without knowing it, I picked up a near fatal case of pneumonia. At first they listened to my lungs, heard a little congestion, gave me a shot in the butt and told me I'd be fine the next day. I wasn't. While walking to dinner, I felt like I was going to pass out, so I grabbed the door handle, bent down, passed out, and when I came to I was still holding onto the door. I walked less than a ¼ mile and my cloths were soaked. I went back to the medical clinic the next day, they sent me to the hospital for a chest x-ray. When the doctor came out he told me that if I had stayed out one more day I would have died. He told me that they could not hear much in my lungs because they were almost full with fluid. So keep an eye on the lungs. Also, you might want to take a flash light and check your throat. If you see some white spots you may have Strep Throat (sometimes you can have it with no spotting). If so, you'll want to get a throat culture to validate. I mention that only because I've had it a few times, and some of the stuff you mention (sore throat, body aches, loss of hearing) sounds a little like it. By the way, from what I've read, the only way you can kill Strap is with anti-biotics. And if you've got it and let it go untreated, it can lead to Rheumatic fever--which can mess up your heart. Not trying to scare you, or over react, but when I hear someone say that they got two really bad colds in such a short time, and some of the symptoms fit some pretty bad stuff, I'm going to pass a word of caution on. Hang in. Hope you get well soon.
  12. Rugger, do you or have you played Rugby? If so, what level do you play and where?
  13. Is that sick in quotes "sick." Like sick of warm weather messing up another boarding season?
  14. I know a RF joke when I see one. But that's not going to stop me from laying down a GB follow-up. I'm planning on going to Wa Sunday, if they still have snow (as you note). I believe my mess up in the GS was due to a lack of conditioning. If my legs were in better shape, I don't think I would have gone down. Also, I failed to stay on edge when rounding the gate. If I were on edge I would not have gone down. I think I'm beginning to see the impact of many years of beating up my body. Since Summer, everytime I try to start regular workouts, be it my back, a muscle, a tendon... whatever, something pulls or goes out on me. Thus I'm forced to stop working out for a week or two, and start up again. I spend enough time strecthing, but it doesn't keep me from these encountering these problems. The crazy thing is when it happens I'm usually doing next to nothing, non-workout related. Sunday evening after I got back from CVT, I had a slight muscle pull. I don't think it will keep me from racing, but it keeps me from doing other forms of exercise. Fight on! I know you've had your own share of problems as well. Hopefully you're holding up better.

  17. Got ya. FYI. My last post was the second time I posted the info. The first time was on October 26th, 2007. So... http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?t=17185 Pico. They set a really nice course. The slalom was longer than any course I have been on. Personally, I sucked on SL. Ice and dull edges. I had one good run on the GS and blew my second run when I fell after hitting a rut. I need a lot of work. Cool about Sandor. If he had to race 60+ beyond last year, I think he would quit racing. 61 year old Sandor racing Open Class. DD racing legend. Ha. Ha. Ha. Give me a break!
  18. I don't like to think of it as "slow." Rather, I like to think of it as someone who takes a little more time to appreciate every gate I round. You know the stop and smell the roses approach to snowboard racing. I agree about a concentrated campaign. I’ve been encouraging folks since summer to write. I think Versus is our best shot as they set aside a lot of time for less known sports such as ours. The more airtime we get, the more potential for increasing interest and participation in the sport. It would be great if we could get some coverage for the RTTC finals.
  19. Congrats Rick on the Overall. I know there are a lot of very solid riders in SV. Looks like you're picking up where you left off last season. See you next week. Dave, let me second Rick's comments about visiting series outside the Catskills. The great thing about all the USASA series in the northeast is that they all treat you like you belong regardless of whether you are a member of that series or just visiting. Like Rick, I've raced in all the northeast series at least twice, and always found them friendly and willing to help. I'm not part of the Mass series, but whenever they have evening gate training during the week NC and sfleck are more than willing to give even an old guy some tips. By the way, if you snowboard or skateboard (racing) tips, touch base with Rick. The man knows how to fly in both sports! George
  20. NC. I'll be racing up in CVT this weekend, but am planning on coming to Wachusett next weekend. Our man sfleck mentioned that you'll be resuming the workouts at Ward on Wednesday evenings (I'm not sure when you are starting). I'm going to try my best to drive up from Hartford after work. The first Wednesday evening I make it up, to celebrate your swiftness on the slopes and in the pub, I got your first one at AJ's. By the way, I'll be 53 in April, and my first season of boarding/racing was 2004 (never skied). For the most part I took last season off so I really only have three full seasons of boarding/racing under my old newbie belt. What can I say, I'm an old Army Ranger--we don't die without a fight.
  21. NC. I sure hope you're faster than a 52 year old newbie racer. Your the man when it comes to the pub racing, but back in my day, I could chug with the best of them. Believe me, I killed more than my share of brain cells.
  22. sfleck, as soon as you say "I'll set today" nc will be off to the pub and we won't see him for the rest of the day.
