  1. This is a little off topic but I want to say both a thank you and a "that's soooo cool" to Cindy and the other folks involved at the Winterpark adaptive program. Every year I go, I am always amazed at the disabled skiiers and riders that are accomodated at WP. I'm proud to call WP my "home" mountain-even if home is 1000+ miles away...
  2. Gee, I seem tame.... I have a Trek 1500 WSD.....hope to do the MS150 in a few weeks, Shiner Bash (90 mi) in May, a few others over the summer, including my fav--the Hotter n' Hell in Wichita Falls in August Don't race for time or cash, just to say I did it..
  3. Those o-sins seem to be "on the block" by the same dood.... I went ahead and bought the 178..... But I may pick up the 168 as well and have a "ride off" next year:D Seeing as many of you guys are in to racing motorcycles, my shopping habit is CHEAP!!!!
  4. I may be slipping--I just called the place in Fraser where I found it. I was told I could get a "deal" on it............ahhhhhhh, resolve is slipping away... My parents are still there-I could get mom to pick up the board and leave it at the cabin.... I've planned this out too well..... When I call back, I'll find out how many they have left-2 when I was there:D If it's less than $5500, it'll be cheaper than my divorce!!!!
  5. I haven't gotten it yet...I checked the Dynastar website-the 4807 is ONLY available in the 178 this year-the toprsheet is cool-with a woodgrain pattern and a mountain etching effect... I've seen O-sin 168's on ebay-topsheet is all white and ho-hum...
  6. I just ordered one as well-hope to have some fun with it this summer---I really feeling the snow withdrawal this year....
  7. I saw a Dynastar 4807 at the shop where I had my board rewaxed while in CO and I can't stop thinking about it-It was beautiful.... It was also 178 cm long-I'm 167 cm long-er, tall.... Is a swallowtail that's 11 cm taller than me going to be too hard to muscle around, will our relationship be doomed from the start, like my first marriage??? I need a clear head to give me some feedback...
  8. Where is the more revealing pics???God knows, I don't lurk just to talk about riding;)
  9. I think age also has a lot to do with respect v. non-respect. I find a lot of skiiers are surprised by 1. the fact I'm 41 and 2. I respect the rules of the hill, unlike the park rats. I still find an antirider bias, especially bad among beginner skiiers-that may reflect their general unease with sliding on P-Tex. It was interesting that I got yelled at by the lifties for wiping out trying to avoid a nest of skiiers stopped about 3 feet away from the chair lift instead of the skiiers being told to clear the ramp last week.
  10. I asked this very question last weekend-the ski school attendant told me that nobody wants to drive up from Denver when it starts to get warm so business dies off. I know, I can believe it either. I'll be doing the MS150 in April, dreaming of snowboarding
  11. I'm guessing these are soft boots.... Maybe look to a youth binding-I agree the shop should work with you because they obviously didn't know what they were doing. Maybe email the techies at Salomon, they have a great website. I currently have Burton bindings with the capstraps-very comfy. I know they work well with Salomon boots because I have a friend who rides Salomon soft boots. Check out the women's Lexa bindings(Burton)-capstraps and women specific sizing, too. Online Burton dealers include backcountry.com and usoutdoors.com
  12. I broke my tailbone once....not riding, though The pain was very memorable-a fiery, shooting pain that made me nauseated, then soreness for a few weeks sitting down. Laying down was fine.... I doubt broken coccyxs are afoot...
  13. If it's any consolation, I am a doc and I can give you my certificate number for the Amer. Board of Int. Medicine if you'd like. My assessment is not a broken bone but muscular strain. Worse case scenario is an acutely herniated lumbar disc-L5-S1 from the location. If you are not having radicular pain-down one or both legs-or urinary incontinence, the pain will go away on it's own. I would advise seeing your own MD, though
  14. I love my sport tube and I had no trouble fitting 2 boards-stacked on top of each other in one. I got very sick of my Burton board bag, esp. when I watched my husband very easily pull his sport tube around in the airport and over icy sidewalks. My boots easily fit in the sport tube-I got the series 3 size- and my snowblades and ski boots fit, too. Plus, it's a good seat when you are waiting for the resort shuttle
  15. They just threw up a giveaway for a new snowmobile on the Burton site...all those who just won Arbor snowboards are excluded from the contest;) www.burton.com for those interested J/K about the Arbor bit-well, not really:D
  16. You suck!!!;) Seriously, I would say nice work, but you didn't work for it, man.... Where's the justice???? Note: I don't sound JEALOUS, do I?????
  17. Stop, please, before this reads like a Burton forum thread!!!! You can exercise your delts and your lats by doing pushups and chinups-easy and no special gym membership required... But I agree with the tenseness, I've never had this problem(of course, I do pushups and chinups....) Thigh-burn....that's my problem. I find that a nice glass of wine helps that best;)
  18. Thanks for all the info...I'm watching for now-ebay, that is... He's selling a longer UP and a Sims as well... The boots are a different story-they're Blax boots. I would want to change out the liners once I got them, mainly because I get weirded out by wearing other people's clothing. Any experience with the boots? Would replacement liners be do-able?

    Cold toes

Hey, Your toes go numb because the nerves sustained some damage with your frostbite episode. Any temperature changes cause the nerves-blood vessels to overreact and cause some circulatory changes. An external heating source will work well, extreme cases may need medication to control the condition. The question-do your toes actually change colors with exposure to the cold? If so, this is a Raynaud's phenomena and may need low-dose medication called a calcium channel blocker.... The dry feet issue is also important-I wear very thin wicking socks under my snowboard socks for that reason.
  20. This board has the bindings with it-"carrier step-in's" It's on eBay(of course, what did we do before eBay) and the buy it now price is $249 The seller has some hard boots up as well, my size I emailed him about the compatiblilty and the boots and board go together. The pics of the board look good. The bindings? They appear different from the new bindings I see listed on this site, as in no clip over the toes of the boot... Plus, I just spent about $1200 this year already on snowboarding equipment... Plus, I just bought some snowblades... Plus, I'm getting a big IRS return.... Ahhh, the agony:D
  21. Hey, I'm new to alpine and don't know the reputation of all the manufacturers, but I do have Burton boards-just no alpine Burton boards. Were Burton boards good for alpine set-ups, back in the day? Thanks, in advance:D
  22. HaHa...... You get 50 points for using "bodacious" in a sentence!!!:D Seriously tho....I too am nervous in a large group, just because I don't trust anybody else's skills-esp, stopping skills. Plus, since I'm a blue run rider (remember I just started 2 years ago) there always seems to be mommy and junior on a tether somewhere. As for hill etiquette, I think since the industry as a whole has performed rather flatly over the last 10 years-skiing down, snowboarding up-the management may be closing their eyes rather than risk losing revenue. I'll hurt them in the end.... My philosophy for right or wrong is I have to avoid the collision because I will always be considered the offending party because I'm strapped to the lunch tray-even if the skiier is making a pizza all the way down the hill...
  23. Thanks, guys.... As for slopes in TX, I'm close to an airport that offers flights to most of them:D Seriously, we also have a cabin in Grand Lake, CO.... I'm also NOT a native Texan, so, hopefully, you won't find me too obnoxious....
  24. Hi, guys.... I started out as a never to be skier-tore up my knee before I had a chance to learn but spent most of my adolescence admiring K2 skis at Oshmann's. After knee surgery #2, I asked my orthopod about skiing-he again put a big kibosh on the dream. A new man in my life suggested snowboarding 2 years ago and, since I liked him alot (we're married now), I made a go of it. Purple butts aside, I liked it a bunch, but I have grown increasingly tired of tweaking equipment in an effort to make that toeside-heelside transition and carve down a hill. I too am in my early 40's and have NOTHING in common with park rats who bomb the hill with little regard to common courtesy. A fellow hardbooter who peruses the Burton website suggested here after I posted a thread about how frustrating it is that soft boots last 2 years and cost $200 US. I've been lurking for a week or 2 and have read all the info on the site and I'm in love:cool: Downsides to new love-just purchased some new bindings for 275 and new boots at 200. I want to get some use outta them before I throw 'em up on eBay. I've adjusted the bindings to a more alpine stance and eliminated the small amount of duck I had. I've got a trip to Canyons this weekend and I'm stoked. Thanks for all the info on the site and I'll definitely be looking for help with my boot/binding purchase in the future:D Cindy
