    We used a $10000 Flir thermal camera. They are down to about $5000 now. If you know anyone that has one, use a wax iron on the base and get a little heat in it (you don't need to get crazy here just waxing temps). You should be able to see the thermal difference on the top sheet. We tried an ultra sound thickness gauge but the results were inconclusive. I also remember we had a treasure map of sorts, we kind of new where they should have been. It was a while ago.

    I bought a 185 from The Calgary Snowboard club, years back. 

    Glenn Chapman / Hollywood helped me. He had a device that was very sensitive to heat, and we scanned the top sheet looking for temp variances. I’ll have him chime in for the correct device name. 
    once we knew where one insert was, we then mimicked, the insert pattern from another Kessler. 
    another 185 would be ideal, but that 168 could help as well. 
    either a 168 or a 185 will tell you the insert width, so draw those vertical lines with a pencil, so you are on plane, then your just probing on the horizontal holes. 
    we first made very small holes with a drill. Then once we knew where all of them were we went to a bigger drill. 
    obviously use a smaller drill then the insert threads. 
    most of the work was done with an exacto knife, cutting open the top sheet. 
    then I simply cleaned the thread with a thread chaser. 
     

    you could also use wax, and. A hot iron, but to get it hot enough to show the inserts from below, you might cause damage to the base.

    180 alpine, stock. 4 years old, only used 20 times +/-. Only base ground once, professionally maintained and stored each summer. 
    $700+ shipping. A 8/9 IMO. Could use a base grind again, just cause of the time in between the last one, two years ago. Only imperfection are the bumper marks from the gecko . THE 180 is sold, thanks for the inquiries

    168 cross, stock. 1 year old, only used 5 times +/- . And those 5 days were less then 4 hours. Still on the factory base grind, only thing I touched was the side edges, twice. A 10 IMO , shred ready, no base grind needed.

    reason for selling these, I want a custom 180 just wider then the stock shape. On the cross I want the 163, the 168 was perfect in Colorado, but a little big for the NH granite and tighter trails.

  4. Did you know that they only bomb the Sugarloaf snowfields on the weekend !?!?!?

    yup I actually heard that on the lift at the Loaf, as a BRO with a 3 day pass and a TexASS accent was curious as to why they weren’t bombing the snowfields with the recent 12” snow On a Friday . So then a “Useless in Eustes” local Bro on the chair, says GUY they only Bomb on the weekends GUY and why don’t you roll up your 3 day pass Guy and use it as a hot cocoa straw guy. 

    P.S I was sooo impressed with the resilience of the average to the below average Maine skier. 
    youre on the chair watching these shit shows on skis come down at a much greater tempo than you would find at a NH mountain, and they just will not fall and yard sale. It was so amazing to me, I’m watching these Maineacs come down, hands flailing, gapah gapping, as far as you can get In the back seat, skis dangling like they were just attached onto the ski pants, and they would not fall. It was amazing. its like Donny Pelletier has a following of wanna be like donnys.

    Chomping at the bit to get back on the hill, I’ve been laying in bed with an ear and sinus infection since 2/7. 13 years in a row going to the World of Concrete show in Vegas, and all very similar returns. Maybe next year I don’t line up bottle service for the Crazy Horse while we are waiting for our bags when we get to McCarran airfield ?!?!?!? I think that will be the last time...................

    On the sneaker scene, I had 3 family member with me. The best part about that, was I only tried on the one pair. But as the shopping continued in the store for the other 3, the HIGH end sneaker salesman said he would put those behind the counter for me as they were selling them out quickly. Thanks GUY for your HELP !!!!

    With the Drivem MacGyvers, I only had the TANK with me. When I got home that day after we swapped boards, I rushed to check the size on my last pair of Burtons, when I saw them my jaw dropped. " IT FUHHKIN HAPPENED AGAIN " "Fuhhk " "WTF" …….………………………… "FUHHKIN TWICE"

    So I'm thinking Def Leppard - Armegeddon ALL Day today to get the STOKE rev limiter up !!!

    So Goeff, I did try and copy @jackm and his KST 175 custom, but the problem was a transportation thing. See I cant put a 175 in the long way , in my Prius, a 172 is the max length I can properly get in there. I thought about getting a roof box for it, but it kills the mileage,  then I realized I would just be better off in a 1 ton Diesel if that was the case. 

    What are you thoughts on those 2 stroke Toyota Tacoma trucks with the huge 4'5" long bed, that you see EVERYWHERE in Maine. #lynnmcmittens

  8. Weekend agenda:

    So the weather looks like its  going to be a mess. My phone says, snow, but the local ice cream man from Beverly is calling for a wash out. However I just spoke with Chomp my nephew, hes hearing POW !! So whatever fuhhkin happens, happens, either way its all getting left on the hill or in the bahhh. 

    So lets get to brass tax. I have formed a new club/team, unknowingly till now, but with the remaining (3) T32 members and Spicolli the rookie who is competing for a spot in his trial year. So over winter break Spicolli and I took it upon ourselves to form a new club,  TBDC. NO , its not The Big Dink Club, its The Bad Dads Club, but it very easily could be called the first one, just sayin. What we do is, we sneak over to the other side of the mountain, where noone knows us, remembers me, and its judgement free zone. The drink of choice is Budlight, we crush 3-4 in the hour that we are given, while the LRT kids are wrapping up their afternoons. We then sprint across the parking lot like teenagers so we don't get caught, by the kids or significant others. So far we have had 3 successful missions, the only hiccup was one afternoon, while loading up my truck with my daughter and her gear. A couple Sled heads I know, asked if I wanted to go out for a rip on the 800 2 strokes . Without hesitation, I said I was in. Dropped Mack off at a play date, Then proceed to chug a gallon of water, then revived my whole system with a Skoal mint pouch and I was Shred Ready. 

    So look for us to be in the PBR sometime around 10:30 - 11:30.  AM - not a big deal !!! if its raining like the ice cream truck driver predicted.  If its not we will push the meeting back to 12:15 - 1:15 PM. 

    P.S I did hear some rumblings of a guy with van, pushing the pace on about 5-6 pitchers in the adult bar a couple weeks back. I heard he was giving out free ice cream on his ride back to exit 28. Sorry I missed it !!!

    Guy, I cant guy. Guy I’ve taken a full time position as a professional U12 assistant. 
    I handle all phases of logistics and lodging, meal prep and replenishment, ski tech, yoga instructor, therapist, in transit homework monitor , human ATM machine, laundry service, French braid stylist and on and on, guy.............

    Used less than 10 days. They were never molded, but can be re molded up to 5 times with the Burton liner. Bought last month, not the right size for me.

    The boot board ramp in a zise 'B' measures 9.6 degrees. The boot board is removable, and hard foam, and there is room to lower the heel by maybe another 2 degrees without too much trouble.

    The plastic is easy to grind with a standard ball burr, offering a powdery residue.

    Ankle pivots are nicely free-hinging with a lot of bearing surface, and there is plenty of clearance below the lower cuff overlap to allow flex.

    The cuff overlap is stiff. Don't leave them unbuckled over the summer.

    The plastic is reluctant to form with heat, and does not readily inform it's willingness to 'give'.  So if you plan to do any serious forming, book plenty of time with your fitter, and bring snacks.

    The chassis, so to speak, is robust. Plenty of thickness in the lower half of the shell, thinning gradually as you move upward. Presumably decreased deformation will provide consistency of 'messaging' between rider and board. Also room to grind for various protuberant foot parts.

    Ankle pocket contouring, at least compared to a modern race ski boot, is nothing to write home about. Better than Deeluxe, but how much better is hard to tell without a side by side comparison.

    Very easy to remove the tongue and cuff for modification, and plenty of room to move within the shell to position forming dies and grinding tools.

    Medial/lateral cuff adjustment is present, but not particularly fine in increment.

    So I finally got some laps on the boots that the Dokta was working on for me. I 
    cant say enough good things about these boots. After a full day of tinkering, I knew what the fuss was all about and I’m really happy with them.

    My Only issue with these was, I was in between sizes. After bringing my B shell and another GUY’s C shell, to the Doktas office, it was confirmed that the B shell was the way to go for, but would require some precision work. So I left the boots with the Dokta knowing I was in good hands. He said that the Grildamald was actually very easy to work with. To get the length I needed, he punched out my big toes slightly and grinded my rear haglunds perfectly.
     

    Over Xmas break I was able to get out on a couple different types of boards, that gave me some great feedback on the Doktas work. 
    if you’re in the NE, and have some specialty work that needs to be done I highly recommend using Eric.

  12. Loon is going off this week ! Yesterday was unreal, 100% shralpable until 11:30 !!

    Team grey beard took a couple victory laps down Hollywood. the T28 Founding family was rocking the stash . 

    A great showing from some alums, home for the holiday break before some nor-ams in  Quebec. 
     

    The midweek crew was in full effect, finally got to rip some runs with them down, surprise , surprise,  Hollywood !!!  

    Best dressed RA, who was geared up for the Baja 1000. 
     

    a small group of LRT dads finally got to take the sleds “out for a rip“  from the flume parking lot, up to twin mountain. This could become another bad habit for me, just sayin.

  13. 12/28, a group of former LRT riders will be on the hill. The youngens are as lippy as ever, and have promised to outgun me on the hill and in the bahh. I said NFW that is possible, but we will see.  I'd love to have a couple Grey Beards by my side, just in case this gets ugly. 

    Unfortunately their alpine days are behind them, they will be on their BX setups. I will join as well with my BXer, so there are NO excuses.

  14. A real good one,  is using a Bosu ball, with light weights,  4-5 sets of 30. 

    It works on your balance and some of the core muscles that you use while riding. Its also trains your leg muscles to have the stamina to make more that 10-12 turns, before fatigue sets in. With this many reps,  you are training the snowboard specific muscles to be able to make 30 + turns before fatiguing. That quantity is based on PLS/PGS course minimum of 25 gates for both USASA and FIS races. I add the extra 5 cause you always have to train harder than the competition !  

    To work on explosive muscle memory,  you can spring up faster, to work on mid weighting. A move used by all racers. While you are mid weighting with the Bosu, you need to use your feet to keep the Bosu flat under foot, then compress down as you're controlling the energy you just created. Almost like the iconic Ollie, from the sport of skateboarding. 

    I even place my feet at my snowboard stance width and I also have my feet angled as well to simulate me being mounted on a board.

  15. Packing my scuba gear now. Saturday is gonna be wet, then temps will plummet for Sunday, I guess I’ll bring my CCM 852’s as well for that #shitshow. 
    Off to a good start so far. Haven’t taken out an alpine board just yet, was hoping to possibly take one “out for a rip” on Saturday,  but I might have to wait till after Xmas.

    I had both hip labrums done 10 + years ago over a 2 year period. The labrum surgery is way more intrusive than a hip replacement, believe it or not. My recovery from surgery was 6-8 weeks on crutches, and 4 months of intense rehab to walk properly. Since the surgery I have had lower back issues, that sometime creep up to my mid back, caused by the limp I have acquired.

    Remedy:

    Lots of stretching, if I don't stretch I cant walk. I recommend yoga twice a week, cycling and swimming for exercise. Running and hiking are not an option anymore. 

    I am due for hip replacements on both, as the labrum surgery was done incorrectly and has caused other issues. From my research, as I would like do to them at the same time, a hip replacement recovery is almost a 1/4 of the time  than the labrum surgery. 

    If you're at the point where the 800's aren't doing it, I say do it the sooner than later. Recovery times are faster the younger you are.
