  1. Spherical nut failed. The shoulder is an abrupt transition between the two planes. Doesn't seem like it is radiused at all. At the time I had posted I had heard of several others. Nothing official of course just rumor. I could have dealt with it and moved on but after several dozen emails and as many calls to the manufacturer without a single response I wasn't about to take another chance. This happened shortly after Jeff had come on the forums to announce that they were still in business and working to make things better for their customers.

  2. All this discussion is well and good BUT I think one basic design characteristic is being overlooked here. If we assess Catek against all other binding designs within the context of a FMEA, which binding has the greatest potential for a single point failure which can result in a very high to severe injury rating? The king pin design of the Catek, while providing infinite adjustability, is a highly stressed interface and single point of contact with the board.

I had a binding failure at high speed on steep terrain two seasons ago which did cause injury. The bindings were adjusted and maintained iaw manufacturer instructions but there was no way of identifying the potential shearing of the king pin shoulder. I promptly sold all bindings and parts with full disclosure on what had happened. Adjustability is great, but safety is paramount. Yes I'm a big guy. Yes I ride hard. Yes I like all of my body parts to remain attached, functional and operate within their design limitations. Thats why I switched camps. And lets face it, none of us are getting any younger!!

  3. I have just spent 3 days with Joerg Egli who has agreed to host a weekend Pureboarding session at Mont Blanc (about 90 mins north of Montreal) February 9-10, 2013. He chose these dates since he will be heading back home to Switzerland after his Aspen session. We may try to convince a few European riders, who will also be heading home from Aspen, to stop over in Montreal. Joerg will do some clinics and demo some Pureboarding boards.

Boutique Sharks (the only Montreal shop that stocks carving equipment) will join us with a demo tent on the Sunday. He will bring along Deeluxe boots, F2 bindings and an assortment of boards.

I have agreed to help organise the session and will soon post some preliminary details. Any ideas on how to hook more participants, including riders from the north-east, would be much appreciated.

Hope to see you at Mont Blanc.

    Dan Lambert

PS – I will join your planned event at the end of February wherever you choose.

Thats Awesome news Dan!!! Much thanks to you and Joerg for making this happen!! I will take care of spreading the word here in Ottawa. I expect a great turnout given the proximity. I've just returned from camping and not had an opportunity to check but have you started an official thread fir this yet? Can't wait!!

  4. Ok so I would like to go ahead and propose everyone book the last week in February. That being Feb 25th to March 1st. We have been fortunate with good conditions in past years and when planning this far out I prefer to stick with what works.

Now, the debate will begin for locations. I would like to propose Owls Head. There are other mountains nearby that could be added into the mix for a couple days that week. Or for those interested we could try something further away if you are up for an evening relocation. I am up for 6 days of riding and my legs will be ready for it this season. No slacking off like last year!

Oh, and a little birdie has told me there may be another reason to come North earlier in February but I will wait for the official announcement so I don't steal the thunder. :eplus2:

I would like to try it if we have an opportunity. :-D I have an opportunity to buy a Swoard but I can not choose between it or Bruce's Euro Carve. Decisions!!

  6. Ok for clarity I am not suggesting that we all go to Newfoundland, Even though I know it would be hilarious watching you all get "Screeched In". I simply posted it as where I would go if I had an extra $1g sitting around and a week to kill. Its where I grew up so it will always be that special place. I could make more turns at Marble in a day than I would here in Ontario in a season!!

  7. Yes I realize its August but someone has to get the ball rolling. The season will be starting agian for some of you in a few months and the rest of us in December (hopefully!!). Due to my wifes work schedule being 4 months advanced I need to try and get some idea of a date that MAY work for some for the east coast riders.

Thanks again to the ECES organizers for the amazing event last year!! For clarity, THIS IS NOT ECES. That title and event belong to the organizers who go above and beyond to take care of us. This will not be a formally organized event as I do not have the skill nor patience to attemp what they accomplish. Just looking for a week away with good friends for great times.

All that being said could we start a dialogue for anyone that may be interested and their preference of week(s) in January or February. Historically the last week of February seems to be about when get have great snow and amazing riding. If a poll is required I can add one. Did Stratton last year and The Loaf the year before. Both were amazing. I would like to open it up to some other locale's this time and see what we can come up with.

    After vacationing home in Newfoundland I'm partial to a trip to ride here;
